I'll be sad to see Fedetenko go. Guy is great at what he does. And who else has that infectious grin?
If he thinks he can get more offensive time someplace else then I wish him luck. No hard feelings. - FlyersGrace
i think he's not going to find what he wants
i'm ok with replacing him with hall, hall's cheaper too |

I don't know if this was talked about around here, but I was a bit surprised to hear Fedotenko complain. I kinda felt like he was given a bigger bite of the apple very early in the season and, frankly, thought he looked old.
But regardless, I'm sure Fedotenko will find a new home. Maybe he'll go to Jersey and get the Arron Asham Memorial Atlantic Division Award for being on every team in the divison. |

Agreed.
But Bill's point is spot on. Who knows what Homer is up to with what he's planning to do? - johndewar
I love this about Homer and the Flyers.
But Timmy Thomas, no. |

Per the usual, well said.
Fair or not, Bryzgalov's contract has to be included when evaluating his value to this team. If they're willing to eat the money (due to a buyout), the Flyers can easily find a guy on the cheap who "isn't part of the problem, but also not really part of the solution." At $5.7 million per season, that is simply not good enough.
It's time to offload the Bryz and Briere contracts and create some temporary cap flexibility for this team to improve in other ways.
I know many are tired of the revolving door in front of the net, but it's obvious that Bryzgalov is not the answer. - bradleyc4

Unrelated note:
I saw the new Evil Dead this weekend. Great horror movie, none of the campiness of the old (which is my favorite movie of all time). MASSIVE amounts of gore, so if you have a squemaish friend leave them behind=; I'm glad my wife refused to go. Also, there's a scene after the credits worth staying for if you're a fan of the original. |

We heard how great mike smith was last year when he replaced bryzgalov. then this year he regressed. I think the bob we are seeing is the real deal but let's see him do it for a couple seasons first. - JoeRussomanno
there are quite a few plyrs, esp younger ones, that we can say this about- let's wait and see where they are at end of an 82 gm season before we fulminate one way or another. |

He's got that star-studded defense in front of him.
But seriously, as much as I wanted them to roll with Bob and a cheap vet 2 years ago, it's still too early to anoint him as the next big thing.
40 games does not make you the next Hasek.
Goaltenders can ride hot streaks for full seasons and then regress to league average or worse. He needs to continue to improve his game and remain consistent in his performances.
But he's been lights out this year and is deserving of both Vezina and Hart trophy nominations. - bradleyc4
I will say that, from what I saw in the 57 games he played his rookie year, and the way he played in the playoffs save that ONE bad period. (he played very well the last elimination game). I do think he has the stuff to be a well above average goalie in the NHL. I think this season he is having in Columbus is going a ways towards proving that.
I wanted them to stay with Bob and felt the Bryz signing was an over reaction. That being said, I think Bryz at times has been inconsistent, and looking ONLY at his compensation level, would hope he made a few more big saves. But he isn't the problem here. He makes big saves every game. But one can only go to the well so many times.
I will also add that sometimes I wish he would make some more of those saves that are not outright bad goals but stoppable at least. The ones that an elite goalie make time after time. But he isnt an elite goalie. He is a very good goalie. |

And that is why he simply isn't worth a cap hit of 5.7 million for another 7 years! |

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with this. Though apparently I am in a small minority since most of us have blinders on when it comes to Bryz. |

One good thing from this lame season...I was able to finish my PhD research and dissertation, and successfully defend it (this past thursday....woot!) , without being forced to miss much good hockey.
Coincidentally I finished my Master's degree during the 2004 lockout and my PhD in the lockout shortened 2012-2013 season.
So when does this CBA expire? I'll probably be going for tenure during the ensuing lockout
Anyway....will watching out the string and looking forward to the draft lottery. I'd poop if the Flyers somehow landed the top pick in the lottery. Law of averages has them due for some good luck after this dreadful season. |

You want to be paying Bryz for the next 14 years?
I'd dangle him out there for a bag of pucks and pray someone bites.. if not, you need to keep him for now and hope his value goes up. I just don't see how keeping him on the books for 14 more years is going to help things...
Everyone is calling for amnesty now, left and right. But 8 years from now when it's really getting old and starting to bite you, then people will be crying about that. It's a no-win situation right now unless they can find someone willing to take him on for practically nothing.. - WarriorHockey21
Well, it's not out of my pocket, so I don't mind. As long as Ed Snider's willing to foot the bill, no fan is even going to notice the after effects of amnestying Bryz.
Of course, if you can hand off that monstrous contract, you may as well keep the cash. |

Hartnell started the year after a one week camp, wasn't in game shape and then got hurt in game 3. He returned before he was fully healed and let's face it, isn't a great skater at his best.
I expect Hartnell to return to his 25-30 goal form and be a pest. - Jsaquella
Hartnell just isn't a guy that seems to pay much attention to the details. He brings a number of desirable pluses to the table (heart & soul guy, loved by his teammates, great w/ fan relations, uncommon skill set), but the poor puck management, lack of positional discipline, after-whistle antics and brainless penalties are a significant counter-balance to the positives.
I'm not saying get rid of him -- he just really needs to be on an even shorter leash moving forward. |

I don't think anybody is going to argue he's worth almost $6m on the cap. The question is really whether his play worth most of that cap hit, and if can he provide enough stability at the position to justify the balance overpaid? |

If Snider is willing to bite the bullet, they can get comparable (read: average) goaltending from guys like Emery, Theodore, Smith, or Ellis for a fraction of the cost, freeing them to apportion cap space toward plugging that hole on the blueline. |

I expect that'll be the course they eventually take, either this or next year. Of course, a wise man once said to expect the unexpected with this franchise. |

It's hard to believe but the 2 highest paid goalies in the league may get bought out this offseason. |

Don't overpay for goaltending. Other than the top 2-3 guys, there's not much separation in talent among the rest. |

Just a quick tidbit, How about Hartnell for Hemsky, contracts are a wash next year but Hemsky is a UFA after next year. One way of getting out of Hartnell's Contract! |

Bryz is actually going to be highest paid goalie in the league next season in terms of salary ($8M) -- $1M over the next closest guy (Quick) and $3M more than Hank -- that's even more mind-boggling. |
