Just a quick tidbit, How about Hartnell for Hemsky, contracts are a wash next year but Hemsky is a UFA after next year. One way of getting out of Hartnell's Contract!
- Daceroni

Who invited Cloutier?

Actually, I see where you're going with this, but I have zero interest in Hemsky. To me, he's on Olli Jokinen level (everyone knows the name, but why?)

Also, does anyone know when Cousins' new court date is?

Never mind, dropped.

One good thing from this lame season...I was able to finish my PhD research and dissertation, and successfully defend it (this past thursday....woot!) , without being forced to miss much good hockey.

Coincidentally I finished my Master's degree during the 2004 lockout and my PhD in the lockout shortened 2012-2013 season.

So when does this CBA expire? I'll probably be going for tenure during the ensuing lockout

Anyway....will watching out the string and looking forward to the draft lottery. I'd poop if the Flyers somehow landed the top pick in the lottery. Law of averages has them due for some good luck after this dreadful season.

Unrelated note:

I saw the new Evil Dead this weekend. Great horror movie, none of the campiness of the old (which is my favorite movie of all time). MASSIVE amounts of gore, so if you have a squemaish friend leave them behind=; I'm glad my wife refused to go. Also, there's a scene after the credits worth staying for if you're a fan of the original.

I heard it was just ok. Probably better as an HBO movie, if only for the gratuitous gore.

I can only speak for myself. I find myself as a Bryz supporter because so often, I have to defend him against the extremists here who say he's terrible, Mason is a better goalie after 1 game, Bob is already the better goalie, etc. If there wasn't an overwhelming hatred of Bryz (as a player and as a personality), I'd find myself being able to give a more honest opinion of his overall game. It sucks, but it's true. The fact is, Bryz is the best goalie this team has had in a while. Perhaps he doesn't justify his cap hit, but I don't think fans should take that into consideration when judging the goalie on the ice. Review what he does out there on the ice and how he makes the team better. If you hate the contract, then the criticism should go against Homer. We all understand that it is a cap-driven league and cap hit of a player is a vital part of their value, but it shouldn't get used when discussing a player's strengths/weaknesses. I find that salary talk is something that is discussed far too much on this board, and makes many of us lose sight on the game in front of us.

Sounds like a guy who was destined to hate it from the start.
I guess if people are expecting it to have the charm of the first one, don't expect massive amounts of gore (50,000 gallons of fake blood used on site), and want top-notch acting with in-depth character development and directing worthy of an Oscar, yes, it will be disappointing. If you love horror movies that can scare and amuse you, everyone I've talked to said it did the job well.

Bryz is actually going to be highest paid goalie in the league next season in terms of salary ($8M) -- $1M over the next closest guy (Quick) and $3M more than Hank -- that's even more mind-boggling.
- Tomahawk

Kudos to Bryz's agent. Was there anyone else in the bidding war for Bryz or did Holmgren bid against himself? The Flyers tend to pay top dollar for Free Agents which is why their agents like the Flyers.

Thanks!

Yup...I study dirt.

Glad to have the bulk of the degree work behind. I have to give a departmental talk and revise some stuff and then I am official. Looking forward to NOT being a student

We heard how great mike smith was last year when he replaced bryzgalov. then this year he regressed. I think the bob we are seeing is the real deal but let's see him do it for a couple seasons first.
- JoeRussomanno

we all saw the tremendous potential in bob. nobody knows how it will pan out. what i wish is that management showed some patience and just for once let a prospect develop without being rushed and/or dumped if he didn't turn out within a year.

as been documented a million times, he had cultural barriers to overcome on top of growing/adapting to compete in the best league in the world with zero north american pro experience. he is still a kid!

that's what pisses me off. i can be more forgiving of allowing someone to properly develop and "wasting time" on them if they don't - after several years, then giving a kid 2 years and dumping him and then he turns out somewhere else.

The Flyers had exclusive rights to him. They traded Matt "Wow, I'm still a professional hockey player?" Clackson and a 3rd for his rights.

I forgot. So Homer spent what it took to keep Bryz from testing free agency.

It's not hard to believe.

Don't overpay for goaltending. Other than the top 2-3 guys, there's not much separation in talent among the rest.
