Holmgren can say whatever he wants to the public but the fact is he will have to make a decision on Bryz.
He might give him another year and then decide whether to keep him for good. - stveshdy
I need to see mason for about 20-25 games next year to decide on bryz. If he looks good, stolarz continues to improve. I have no problem with amnesty for bryz next year If he has a similar year. Just see zero need to do it this year. |

Every team pays for free agents. Not sure he had to sign Bryz to a 9 year contract. - stveshdy
They didn't. But they had to increase the length of the deal to lower the Cap hit.

Would you guys trade Couts, Ghost, 7th overall for Pietrangelo?
I would im not sure St Louis would. Pietrangelo a top 7 dman in this league. Top 5 for me. |

I'd think really hard about it. I'd probably try to swap Read or B Schenn for Couts, but, I'd certainly consider it |

Thats one option. The others were to keep Bobrovsky or get another goaltender short term.
I don't fault them for going after Bryz but that length to lower the cap hit is ridiculous. Not a fan of giving out a deal that long and especially to a goaltender. |

I love Coots but I'd make that deal Pietrangelo is a Norris trophy caliber defenseman and he's only in his early 20s. I dont think the Blues would do it though. |

Depends what their plan is. Might need money to do the things necessary to solve the issues on this team.
I can't imagine that they make minor moves to this team this summer. Too many question marks imo. |

Believe me i (frank)ing love Couts... he's going to be a special player but Pietrangelo is (frank)ing awesome. He will win Norris trophies.
St Louis would demand Couts or B Schenn (i dont blame them), and with Luke here, they arent going to trade Brayden. It just isnt going to happen. No way they trade away a brother after they just reunited them.
Honestly, i know i will get bashed but i would trade Couts, Read and our 1st for Pietrangelo... again i dont mind if i get bashed, i would honestly do that. Pietrangelo is a very special player. Of course i still think its an iffy trade for us but if Armstrong offers us that, or asks for that im not sure if i could say no...

Its common that the team the others fear the most in the playoffs is the one with the strongest goaltender. I fear Bryzgalov imploding, more than I would expected him to steal a series.
There are too many goaltenders in the league, that to me are simply better than Bryzgalov. When you throw salary into the mix with that, its not good enough.
Its unfortunate, because when he was signed I will admit, I was one of those who thought the situation is fixed for good. To me, its time to cut the cord.
He got a raw deal here, behind a poop crew defensive team, but what is, is what is. I do truly like the guy, he has a personality similar to mine, but best of luck elsewhere. |

I'd like to add something very important: It epends when this trade is going down, what # our pick is, and if its iin the draft already...
if we have a top 7 pick, there's a very big likelihood Sean Monahan would still be available... and in that case its Couts, Read and Monahan for Pietrangelo which quite frankly is a fleecing for St. Louis
AT that point i'd take Read out and add in Gus/Lauri/Ghost/Bourdon etc
itd be really tough. I just cant see it happening anyways... |

Im a bit more of the belief that if you can get a younger elite complete d-man on the team.
You do pretty much what it takes, and go from there. Not completely crazy, but even to have a team start off around Giroux and Pietrangelo I'd do it. Fill it out in time with FA and continue to let talent from the draft infuse.
Its not the most popular idea, but I see having a player like that, a real strong helping cornerstone toward winning a cup. Its not always, but its definately a bit of a trend in this league. Along with a goaltender, that gets red hot.

I would make that trade. Only because I value defenseman higher. I believe you win from the net out. Franchise type defenseman dont grow on trees. |

Nashville said Couts AND Schenn for Weber... plus a few 1sts and a prospect. Again i cant blame them for asking Couts+Schenn for Weber...
if you're trading for a player of the calibre of Weber/Pietrangelo, Nash/St.L pretty much HAS to win that trade...
If Doug Armstrong said COuts, Read, 2013 1st for Pietrangelo... and im the Gm... i would falter.....
i would ask for St Louis' 2nd round pick. If they say "OK" then im taking the deal.
Pietrangelo is EXACTLY what this team needs..... but we're trading away 3 SOLID players... ugh |

What is easier to replace ROCK.
The guys given up? Or the guy brought in?
Who is the established and best player in the deal? When all else is even now for the most part, just potential. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if I believed Nashville was actually going to match Coots and Schenn arent here right now. Brayden Schenn, and even Coots for all of their promise and shutting down malkin, lead their value with "potential".
I guess I believed the organization had them in a financial bind, and Weber would be a Flyer... |

Say that trade happens. And we resign Gagne, This is next year:
Harts-G-Jake
Gagne-Schenn-Simmonds
McGinn-Laughton-???
Rinaldo-Talbot-Rosehill
Timonen-Pietrangelo
Schenn-Coburn
Grossmann-Mezzy
Gervais/Gus/Lauri
Our FW group is considerably weaker... but our defense is totally shored up now. we'd probably go fishing in the UFA market and sign maybe even Jagr (plz???)/Ryder
Thats the problem with trade Read=COuts+likely FW pick...
I would offer Couts+Cousins+Ghost+mid prospect like Manning/Bourdon/Akeson/Noebels+ 2013 1st
St Louis would probably say no and then i'd be saying "(frank)"

Take a look at my last post... our FW core goes considerably weaker with trading away 2 FW and a potential 3rd FW..... thats the only problem i have... |

Know what I kind of see happening though? There is no chance St. Louis gives up Pietrangelo for anything the Flyers have. Even Giroux. #1-dmen that are young, on his caliber level, and pretty established are really damn rare in this league. A lot more rare, than star forwards.
With Weber it was a financial situation as well, but St. Louis will have no issues signing him for life imo. |

Then we go after Shattenkirk then
Obviously the package would be alot less but for a guy like him Read+1st+Ghost should get it done |

That's too much for Shattenkirk, IMO.
I;d rather go another route than trade assets worth a true number one guy for him. |
