As for my original point, yes Kovy stinks and isn't worth it, not even close.
He goes down and the team tanks? Get real. This isn't the AHL. Teams should be able to endure the loss of a player. If the rest of the team is that BAD then holy hell... hahahaha.. i'm laughing even harder now..
His contract is a joke. He's there forever. You can't trade him. He's going to retire early.. he packs it in half the time.. what's his career +/- ? Anyone? In how many years in the league? Hmmm...
1 pt in the Finals last year?
DEPTH. Look at it. You gotta go out and get a starting goalie, a backup goalie, because well... Hedberg (frank)ing sucks.. At least one top 6 winger.. possibly a top 6 C...
Zajac = bust. Lokti? lol.
If you think he's top 6 then lollerskates.
You guys are in deep poop. Enjoy pretending like it's not happening.
Oh, and a shrinking cap next year. weeeeeeee - NorCalAvsFan

So basically your goal is to become the oilers and just stockpile high picks without making the playoffs. - rmdevil313
If you were GM of the Avs, and your coach sucked, and you obviously couldn't compete for a cup, why would you want to win right now? It's a short year, it didn't go as planned, ROR held out and screwed up our first few weeks..
At this point (and awhile ago) it was pretty clear the season was lost, so you may as well get what you can going forward. Edmonton still won't do anything in the next few years. They have plenty of kids up front but that's IT. They don't have a good starter, Duh duh Dub-step isn't a #1 goalie. Bulin will likely do 1 more as backup, BIG DEAL. They need a starter, they need at least a top 2 D guy, at least another top 6 D guy, they need to get bigger...
Add to that, they didn't really do much to change up their front office, and you can see how badly it will continue to go for them. Score a ton of goals, still lose because you give up a ton of goals.
We aren't Edmonton. We have Erik Johnson who can be that top guy.. has at points this season between injuries. I'd still like another top 2 guy, but I digress.
We aren't as small as Edmonton. We have a starting goalie who is capable of winning 40 games, and he did just that not too long ago.
We have almost as much depth at forward as Edmonton. Duchene, Landeskog, ROR, all will be here for a long time. The Kids on the back end like Elliot and Barrie will likely make the team next year, and are already ahead of some of the scrubs Edmonton employs on their bottom pairings.
There is a HUGE difference between why Edmonton does it (because they're actually bad, and far off) and why we're currently doing it.
We made the playoffs a couple years ago.. the team is there, the talent is there. Get rid of the pylons they called D guys in our bottom 3/4 and we're fine.
Statsny does what he needs to, but if he went down we wouldn't tank like the Devils did w/o Kovy, please.
He will probably be gone next season, anyways. Good luck getting rid of that albatross you have on your books.

Isn't that kind of proof that he IS worth it, and is vital to the team? |

Offense. Devils have some solid D prospects, definitely need more O. - MannySilvers
Assuming you pick somewhere in the 8-10 area, keep any eye out for Sean Monahan. He's a centermen, and I realize that you prefer the Winger, but he is a real good player, as Todd may tell you, and I think he has a chance to falling to the Devils. Hunter Shinkaruk could also be an interesting pick for the Devils.

Alrighty then. Kovy has a cap hit of 6.67m. Same as Paul Stastny. You gonna sit here and tell me Stastny>Kovalchuk? Cool. Kovy was 5th in the NHL in scoring last year. His career +/- is from years in Atlanta. He plays more minutes per game than any forward in the NHL by a mile. He plays PP, PK, 5on5. Is he signed here forever, yes, but honestly at a very reasonable cap hit for a player of his magnitude. He had 1 pt in the Finals because he had a herniated vertebre...
Saying Kovy stinks is legitimately just ridiculous. |

We can trade Staz, he doesn't have 289273 years left on his contract, and he's solid at both ends of the ice. He has gotten comfy here, much like Marleau and Jumbo in San Jose, and it's shown over the past few years. I want him gone, so i'm not arguing with you there, and I certainly never said he was better than Kovy, but his contract certainly is, which is the point i'm making here.
Kovy plays at all positions, GREAT, FANTASTIC.. do you know WHY? Because you have nobody ELSE to (frank)ing do it. Don't you homer goggle wearing bias fans understand this very simple point?
Kovalchuk has taken that contract and turned Jersey into the laughing stock of the NHL, who are VERY much reminiscent of the Atlanta... Thrashers.
Kovy running around doing everything at every point on the rink.. but they had no depth and well.. guess what happened? They got rid of him because he wanted TOO MUCH MONEY.. re-tooled and now they're in Winnipeg.
How are they doing right now? Better than Jersey? Somebody tell me the Devils are ahead of the Jets right now.
And they're getting better. You guys are now in... rebuild mode, like it or not.
Enjoy that. |

Fans have been talking about both of them. I just want Lou to make the right pick. It seems like there are a bunch of forward options to choose from, and we need the pick to turn into a top 6 forward. |

im sure we can take a center and move him to the wing if they are the best player available or bump someone to the wing if the guy we get ends up being a better center then someone we already have |

Yes, it clearly has nothing to do with the fact that i'm on a Devils thread talking ish about 'em.. haha.
Yet, not a single one of you has given any real reasons as to why i'm wrong.
Kovy is a better 2 way player than Statsny? Ok. If you say so. Career numbers say otherwise. But I guess stats are stupid.
Parise left. You are now in rebuild. You lost a 1st round prospect who quit your QMJ team. Uhh..
Kovalchuk, Old man Elias, Zajac? Those are your top 3 players next season?
Haha. |

Obvious troll is obvious. You're points make no sense, Kovy took soooo much money that he ruined our team even though he makes less than tons of players who aren't as good? And why would we want to trade the best player on our team? The Devils aren't in rebuild mode...they were in the SCF finals last year, and yes we lost Parise, but we have a deep team, several players had down years this year, and honestly if it were a full season with still 40 games left, I'm confident they'd get in the top 8. So basically, a team is doing well with a player. They then lose that player, and the team stops playing well. To me, that player is good for the team.
Not sure what him playing on a team that lacked any defensive play and subsequently moved to another city where, even without him, they haven't made the playoffs has to do with it. |

Its a matter of opinion, but I'd take Kovy. I still don't think people appreciate his 2 way game enough. It keeps improving and he's one of the best at turning defense into offense from the defensive zone imo. |
