nope even if we win and they lose we don't clinch - mighty13duck
Yes, we do- because they only have 2 games left. If we win and they lose tonight, it's 55-51, and they have one game left. Even if they lose in OT, it's 55-52, and they have one game left. This is why the magic number is three. |

We need to win cause the Jets aren't losing to Caps or Habs... - Nolanders
We need to win because if we win out, and Toronto sh*ts the bed, we could finish 5th. In any case, three wins guarantees us 6th place. I also believe there is some quirk that doesn't really allow us to finish 7th....or a lot of stuff would have to happen, none of it likely....something like that. We will either be 5th, 6th or 8th. That said- Winnipeg is going to have tough sledding tonight...they barely beat Buffalo in a yawner last night, and Buffalo is truly cr*p at this point. This is why I believe we're in...Washington SHOULD beat Winnipeg, and we SHOULD beat Buffalo, which puts us in.
All of that said...these boys better be ready tonight. They've lost to this garbage twice already, and I sincerely hope that alone annoys them enough to come out swinging this evening. |

Isles will take 2 of the next 3 and hopefully finish 6th - PeterMcCor
Isles will win their 3 remaining games.
Quit worrying.

This is a tough game for the Jets...2nd game of a back to back and playing a very hot team. If I had to make a prediction, I don't see the Jets winning this one... |

If you clinch and Nabby needs a rest you give it to him. I rather him rested for the post season. With that said Watch us and Winnipeg win tomorrow We never get help from the outside - mighty13duck
I think Poulin will play probably Friday vs. Buffalo if we win tonight...could be a trap game tonight. We haven't beat Carolina this year. Islanders need to come out fast tonight... |

The best way to kill a team that has already dug its own grave is to repeatedly hit it over the head with the shovel. |

Ward is still out for them, correct? He's the one who kills us when we play them (he and Vokoun have taken the Sean Burke award for being a pain in our ass for several years in a row at this point)...and the senior Staal brother...but if Ward's not there, I think we're definitely good for this evening. Need to pepper whoever is their goalie tonight early and often, like the Florida game. |

totally on a diff note.....
Yandle is a class act, wearing the name of the young kid on the back of his jersey during warm-ups, and then will personally deliver jersey to family in BOSTON.....
Geez, wish we could have him here........

magic number is three...if we lose in ot/so and they lose in reg, are we in? - Dedshark
Regardless of what everyone else does, if the Isles get three points in the last three games, they're in. With the way this team is playing, that shouldn't be a problem. I can't see this team not getting 3 of a possible 6 points going forward. |

Yeah, if they need to worry about backing in with the opponents in front of them, they don't belong in the playoffs anyway. I think they win out, although if I'm already guaranteed 6th, I probably sit some players for the Flyers game, which may change that- don't need one of those goons trying to injure JT for no reason other than he's mad because THEY suck. I'd rather bring up some Sound Tigers for that one, thanks. |

I don't want to play the Caps if they are in that SE BS position. We should all be hoping for the PO's first of course but should be aiming for Toronto or Montreal who are both doable. |

Yeah, I'd like that one, too- problem is this: Reinhart, Niederreiter and/or a 1st round pick for starters....and I'm probably undervaluing what they'd ask for.
That said, if I can do that without hurting my major league club (or stripping my organization bare), I immediately forget resigning Streit, because you've basically upgraded him BIG TIME. Getting him would make us a big time team, instead of just a good one. |

I just know we have been guilty of playing poor against lesser teams and Philly and Carolina have always given us fits in the past...and maybe its just because I want this so damn bad so we can shut all the critic up for once ...lol Go Islanders |

Yeah, I was saying to a friend the other day....I don't know much, but I do know this- if this were an 82 game season, and the Isles kept playing at their current level, they'd at least be fourth or fifth (depending on the rag$) at the end (next year, the Isles and rag$ would be some combination of 3/4, after Pitt and Boston- thank God the loser division is going away...not that one specifically, but any division where the winner is barely if at all better than the 8th place team....that needs to end, and I'm glad it is going to).
Also, the Leafs and Canadiens would be out....have to figure either the Devils or Flyers would get it together sooner or later, and Winnipeg already SHOULD be in. Carolina also always seems to come on at the end of the year.
I end up watching the Leafs a lot, for whatever reason- they play f***ing pond hockey, like we did earlier in the year. How they win at all is beyond me- sorry, the truth hurts. Montreal's problem is they have a very streaky goaltender ...they're also not really all THAT talented up front. They both would definitely have a hard time holding serve for the long haul, IMO. |

The Islanders owe Carolina a beating tonight. they had Carolina beat twice already this year, only to watch Carolina come back in the third. That was a different team that kept blowing 3rd period leads. I don't forsee the Isles losing to Carolina tonight, now with all that's riding on this game for them. |

To all saying trap game Or we lost to them 2x. I was at the 2nd game vs canes at coli. That was actually dp's last game by was when we scored 4pp goals and he gave up 5 with nanny poulin or any other ahl goalie that game was a 5-2 isles win.
They need to go out there tonight and fu*king take it. A win tonight all hit seals the deal. We can't worry about Winnipeg the rags or ottowa. If they take care of there biz where in. |

I hope they're looking ahead...take 5th and we get a matchup with the Habs. I feel like the Isles and Habs styles of play would make for a good, high-speed series where our smaller, mobile D would be an asset rather than a liability like they would against a big, physical team like Boston.
But they have to keep rolling tonight. Have to score early and often. The Canes have plenty of weapons and can cause a lot of disappointment for all of us tonight unless the Isles are really on their game. |

Getting ready to head off to Raleigh NC with a group of TWELVE Islander fans! 500 mile round trip with 9 kids!
We'll be sitting in the lower level. The end where the Isles shoot twice. So if your watching the game and see a bunch of Fans wearing Islander Hats and Jerseys. Cheering wildly for the Isles amongst a sea of RED.
That will be us.
They had better win. I tired already just thinking about the drive. |

Would NEVER choose Optimum over FiOS but am pissed the next 2 games are on MSG+2......no HD for me. Not like Dolan will authorize a switch and regulate an eliminated team to non-HD - 1since40
