Drafting, drafting, drafting.

Is the way teams, and good defensive cores are made in the new NHL.

The Flyers are being taught this the hard way.

St Louis has a good defense corps, and acquired their 2nd and 3rd best defensemen via trade. There are many ways to defur a feline.

After you draft them, you've still got to develop them...

Unfortunately, being locked into a win-now mentality isn't exactly conducive to bringing along young d and goalies with patience.

The Flyers currently have one d-man on their roster aside from Oliver and Guss that they have even come close to drafting.

Mr. Consistency Braydon Coburn.

Now go (frank) yourself!

^The reason I don't like when people so readily throw Laughtons name around in trades. Flyers have tended to be good drafters in recent years. Who knows, dude could be another Giroux-caliber player. Probably not, but still, who knows? Giroux didn't even make the top North-American skater projections over names like Peter Mueller, Bryan Little, Chris Stewart, James Sheppard, and Cory Emmerton. People need more faith in one of the few things I DO consider elite on this team: The drafting crew.

I was. For about 3/4 of a week I believe. Was going quite well too to be honest, but I checked out a message hammar wrote me and it kind of gave me a new take on things I suppose.

Back with a menstrual ferocity haha, but basically completely ignoring those who caused me to leave in the first place, and killed the experience for me.

Good to talk hockey, and nonsense with some of you goofs.

They got Shattenkirk because they had an Erik Johnson to trade... Flyers have... Mark Alt?

Bouwmeester was a Feastering, plain and simple.

You think the Bruins have a good defense? Guess how many guys in their top 7 that they drafted.

1. Dougie Hamilton is the lone defenseman on the Bruins top 7 that was drafted by Boston.

A nice shutdown line of Laughton-Coots-Talbot for years, and you have me as a happy camper.

Essentially I am saying that the Flyers have to improve their drafting and developing of d-men.

It would make things a lot easier. The Bruins will be hard pressed to find a replacement for Chara, but have at the very least made a step to try and shorten the gap by drafting Hamilton. I get what you are saying though.

Chiarelli's an analytics maniac and he's probably the most formidable contract negotiator in the NHL. Homer can barely make sense of the cap on his best days.

I couldn't bear to watch the video, the write up was enough thank you... Idiots abound, usually less in hockey. But it comes down to the people you surround yourself with. Beautiful women who want your money or your body? Yeah you might not have much respect for them.

There are many NHL teams that at the very least have some good d-men on their team that they drafted and developed. The closest thing the Flyers currently have is chronically inconsistent Coburn, who wasnt drafted by the team though anyway. Look past Coburn, and in the fringes stand Oliver and Guss.

Anaheim = Fowler
Boston = Hamilton
Buffalo = Myers
Calgary = Giordano
Carolina = McBain
Chicago = Keith and Seabrook
Colorado = Have Siemens
Detriot = Kronwall
Florida = Kulikov
LA = Doughty, Voynov
Montreal = Subban, Markov
Nashville = Weber
Rangers = MDZ, Staal
Ottawa = Karlsson and Cowen
Pittsburgh = Letang
St. Louis = Pietrangelo
Vancouver = Bieksa, and Edler
Washington = Carlson, Alzner
Winnipeg = Trouba

A list quickly off the top of my head. The Flyers have no players currently that come close to matching the established skill or even potential of these players. That they themselves drafted and developed. This is all pretty recent history as well. Not enough d-men are made in Philadelphia.

And the Flyers have Luke Schenn. Not sure why it matters if they drafted him or not.

I've heard alot of talk in the comments of this blog from Flyers fans in regard to offseason plans. Who they wish the Flyers would move/buyout, trade for, draft, etc. I've heard talks about wishing that they would trade for Pietrangelo, or another elite class D man. It made me wonder, does anyone know if other teams dream and think realistically about a trade for a Flyers player? Does anyone know if on some other comment board, another group of fan realistically discusses what it would take to get Voracek or Giroux? I thought they were talking quite realistically about the possibility of a Pietrangelo trade and what it would take, and it made me wonder how St. Louis fans would feel about it. Anyone know?

They do for sure, but I think if you continously have to look outside the organization to bring in real talent for the blueline, you have a recipe for exactly what the Flyers are, and will be dealing with.

The Flyers need to do a much better job drafting and developing their own D-men imo. Thats basically what its all about to me.
