not killing him for it. point blank shot in the slot. that happens. it's just not a place where you want the puck to go. great to see him compete for the puck and stop the rebound.

He has played very well. Very small sample size, but the quickness has been evident. He moves well laterally for a big man. I hope there's truth in the stories that hes working extra hard with Jeff Reese.

Honestly the only little quirk ive noticed is his rebound control, and being a goalie i know that can be easily fixed.
Honestly. Only quirck i've seen from him so far with us. Speed is awesome, positioning is good, puck handling is awesome... only that rebound control
And IMO he's only let in 1 mediocre goal so far. Maybe an argument for 2.
Another 39 saves tonight, after 38 last game vs Rangers

Ya i know but that was far from a bad rebound lol. Not much else you can ask a goalie to do on that one.
Cmon you're a goalie you should know this

The one big thing with me is this.

Mason has been the underdog and had everyone love him.

He hasnt come anywhere close to facing the pressure Bryzgalov has, and being labeled that #1 guy. I dont want to see him being given the reigns completely no matter what they do. He is promising, but dont do what Columbus did.

I think June 15-30 is the buyout period.

We will see.

Even if Bryzgalov was ever to be bought out. I truly wish him the best wherever he goes.

Good game by the crew tonight. Outside of the one real big blunder by Manning, that D makes me smile. Somehow finding a way, and Luke Schenn has been rock solid.

- flyer_nutter

Hmmmmm.... Rock hard Luke Schenn...
Wait. What? That wasn't my internal voice?

If you can get another young goalie with the upside of Mason then do it. Don't wait. Build your team moving forward and let them build a relationship. Free up Bryz and Briere. I know, why not let Bryz play a year? He could get hurt, he could cause conflict, ... Do not spend to the cap though. Free up Bryz and Briere money, but DO NOT use that money unless it helps the team in 2+years!

The rebound control does need work, although the one on the first goal was a tough one to keep from being a rebound.

I'm pleasantly surprised by his play, and hopeful that the reported work ethic is true andbecomes a habit.

overall, i think he's done well on rebounds. gotten better each game in that area. he's also breaking in a new set of pads. the new CCM line is supposed to be soft out of the box, but it still takes time to get comfortable.

he's played very well. given them a chance to win in every game. very encouraging. given their situation, there's no pressure. relax, but play hard/focused. hopefully he'll get back on track here. if he does, i can just get a Mason nameplate and put it over Bob's.
- hammarby31

I think I am going to keep my Bob jersey as is and just remove the Flyers symbol and replace it with a photo of the Vezina trophy..

again in no way shape or form am i jumping on the "Mason starter!!!" bandwagon. But its very encouraging to see him play this well.
Again you dont have to trust me on this but i've been saying this entire year "get Mason outta there. He needs a fresh new start, and he could succeed"
so far i am right. The kid has talent, thats never been an issue. It was his confidence. He had about -178 of it in CB.
I am still however on the Emery/Bernier/Backstrom/buyout Bryz bandwagon

I'm happy with what I've seen of Mason so far, but yeah....it's a few games at the end of a lost year.

Let's see how he does in the heat of a game against the Pens or Rangers when the games actually matter.

I just saw a new set of the CCM pads at one of the stores.. very soft pads to the touch and I can see them being very good with rebounds.. but I didn't try em on.

I believe if they do buy out Bryz, whoever they bring into replace him will be on a short-term contract (3 yrs or less) and the combined salary cap hit of both guys will be close to what Bryz's cap hit.

Like ive said before no reason not to start him every game rest of the way. I hope they do last 2 games. Just build up his confidence, break in those new pads, get used to the EC.

I would like to use him as a backup next season, play him 30-35 games. Then if he plays well then sign him to a new contract and make him the starter... unless ou've got a guy like Backstrom signed for 2 years

mason will need to earn the #1 job, and honestly, it's a good problem for the flyers to have if he forces them into that decision or at least makes it very hard for them to decide because hopefully bryz is also playing well.

i've never really been an emery fan. very little sample size for bernier. backstrom, ok, i guess. bryz can be fine provided he has a team playing committed, solid team D in front of him...just like most goalies. i don't see bryz getting bought out.

I dunno man I like bryz a lot and think he's a good goalie... I think mason is at least the same if not better..for some reason the team plays way better in front of mason... I don't think they give two poops when playing in front of bryZ
- Philly1980

imo, buying out bryz is inevitable. if they have workable alternatives, i'd make the move this off season and spare us the drama. not all bryz's fault by any stretch, but at the end of the day, he hasn't been good enuf.

edit:
getting ahead of my self to say a fait accompli...not that anyone really cares

I really have zero idea what they will do with Bryzgalov. I wouldn't be surprised or upset either way.

I was very pro Bryz, and I still like the guy. But the results have been mixed. Still, I think they have to think long and hard on it, and look at the options available. I don't think they can go with Mason as the starter out of the gate-perhaps do a Hackett-Esche type deal to start, with Emery or Backstrom or maybe even a Brian Elliott(althought I see him as a pure system goalie) or Jose Theodore tandem and make it an open competition.

I think the best plan is keep Bryz and Mason for the next season.. buy out Briere and then use the buyout on Bryz in 14 if need be and Mason clearly proves to be a #1. All this depends on whether or not we can fix the D with the cap space Briere gives.. if not, you have to look at it.. not because Bryz sucks but because of the cap money..
