Was at the game and saw what you were talking about, he was checked into the boards and kind of just coasted off the ice, the part that worried me was when he looked up at the rafters and shouted some choice words. Post game though - Got to meet Courturier and Knuble, really great guys and very down to earth |

i missed the game but i have one question... why the (frank) did lilja play - 2Real
With all of their injuries on the blue line, they needed SOMEONE back there. And it's not like they are running any sort of "go, go, go" attack system that would leave Lilja vulnerable.
And besides....he's done after this year anyways. Let him go out an NHL player. I hope they let Knuble play too. |

Lilja played a solid game last night. Some were complaining that he was in the lineup last night, before the game even started. All about nothing.

Read and Lauridsen's goals seven seconds apart tied a franchise record for quickest in one period.
According to the Flyers' media guide, the previous two instances were as follows: Dave Brown/Brian Propp on 12/2/86 in a 7-1 win against St. Louis and Moe Mantha/Ron Sutter in a 4-3 loss against Washington on 12/27/88. - Jsaquella
Moe Mantha, priceless! |

Agreed. He was fine.
Brandon Manning may want to review what happened on that goal that Krejci scored, however. |

Yea, he blew that play. But both Manning and Lauridsen don't look overwhelmed out there. With some more seasoning, and experience. Both have a chance to at leas has some role as an NHL defenseman. Lauridsen has the physical tools in terms of size to maybe one day be a low minute 3rd pair NHL defenseman.

Manning did not play a very good game last night. Completely mishandling Kreji on his goal, not going after a puck in the corner because he saw Lucic coming, etc. (and those were both in the 3rd period alone)
But young defensemen are prone to these mistakes, and should not be judged based on just one game. |

Not his best game, but the D played fairly well all things considered.
Schenn played a very nice game, and his hit on Lucic was great.
Gustafsson, to me, has earned a spot that's his to lose. Played a ton last night, looked very poised, made some great passes. Also was very good with his positioning in the defensive zone.
Lilja, even though I'm not a fan, had a fairly good game. Solid, sound game.
Lauridsen had a few plays I'm sure he'd like back, but goal aside, another solid yet unspectacular game.
Manning and Foster...not so much. Not terrible, but not exactly not terrible. Foster's highlight may have been dropping Campbell with that slap shot.
I was also surprised with Rosehill when he fought Thornton. Started off badlt, but he ended up throwing a few that landed. Edge Thornton (I can't wait to hear Jack Edwards' call of it) but not lopsided at all. |

Oh, I agree.
I tried to be kind in my analysis of Manning's work on that play.
If he were a veteran defenseman, I would have probably been much less kind. |

Yeah, but not exactly a stellar group of FAs to spend it on. - Jsaquella
Agreed. While I am against buying out Bryz, I think the only available goalie I'd want to see in his place is Emery (as noted above). I love that guy.
Edit: I still think that team defense and the defense in general are bigger issues than goaltending. |

Moe Mantha, priceless! - BiggE
Funny you mention Moe Mantha. There's a winger playing for Val-D'Or who is ranked high on the NHL's Central Scouting List for North American skaters this year.
I wondered if he was of any relation, despite being born in Quebec.
Turns out he's the grandson of former Canadien forward Andre Pronovost. |
