Are we missing the part of the play where Brown lets the puck go, puts his elbow up, leans in, and drills pommer in the face??? Are we not seeing the same hit??? WOW - Smittyx36
Smitty Pominville. No matter how stupid of a play Pom would make Smitty is there defending him as he can do no wrong.. |

Ryno, why are you linking me with an article to support your argument that was written in Nov 2011 before the 11-12 season even ended, using projections based on Vanek's hot streak at the beginning of the year? We all know how last season turned out.
Here, lets "fact check" my statement:
2012-13: 37 GP, 16 scoreless = 43%
2011-12: 78 GP, 33 scoreless = 42%
2010-11: 80 GP, 33 scoreless = 41%
2009-10: 71 GP, 33 scoreless = 46%
2008-09: 73 GP, 31 scoreless = 42%
2007-08: 82 GP, 40 scoreless = 49%
2006-07: 82 GP, 29 scoreless = 35%
2005-06: 81 GP, 44 scoreless = 54%
On average, Vanek goes scoreless in 44% of games played in a season. Like I said yesterday, you need your best player to be getting points in 70% (+/- 5%) of games played. Vanek did that in 06-07 and he wasnt even our best player. I guess the argument that hes "not consistent" isnt a good argument, because hes obviously consistent. He has hot streaks to the start the season, cools off tremendously down the stretch and you can count on him going scoreless in 44% of games played.
We could only imagine where this team would be if he was able to be consistent with his 06-07 numbers, scoring in at or around 65% of games played. - theblueandgold
going out on a limb here but i see 2 possible scenarios
1) will just not reply
2) will reply with something sarcastic |

Right trying to protect players from permanent brain damage = wussification. - ImThatGuy
As I said, I agree that blows to the head with intent to hurt or boarding without cause should be stopped but this pales in comparison and Pom has responsibility in being smart and not leading with his head. Lets remember you have seconds to act to someone coming at you when your basically standing still. |

That's fair, but I'm not really the homer you may think. Case in point: Stoll's twice boarding Fowler this year with only a 1 game suspension on the second hit. I would have suspended him on both, and for longer. And I haaaaaate the Ducks. - cryptical77
Kaleta 5 games for shoving Richards, and Brown no penalty. He's a little choir boy. |

Tuck your elbow, lead with your shoulder, teach him a lesson... or, you could do what Brown did and stick your elbow out |

Homer response .
If it was reversed and say Suter did this to Carter you would be crying for life suspension.
I'm a big big brown fan but that was one of the dirtiest elbows I have seen in recent years. Down right disgusting and pathetic. - Smittyx36
Not even close to the dirtiest. It wasnt even that bad for one. He was bracing himself for the contact that he was expecting Pommer to have with him. So he could skate off. Why was Pommers face so low. If he was skating and going to make contact like a normal person it would have been contact with his chest. |

It seemed like he was protecting puck. Reminds me of when ennis is going along board then see's someone coming so he turns his back to player and puts himself between puck and oppistion. Brown saw him coming looked to postion himself to take hit and keep puck away from Pom. Then Pom held up some thenwhen bBrown went to hit him back, Pom had slowed down and was going basically head first at browns shoulder. He then connected with browns elbow which wasnt raised or forced into pominville at all. most force came from pominville running into it then it being thrust into his face.

Have you seen Pominville play? He wasn't going for a hit(obviously) he was going to play the puck, mabye try to tie Brown up. Now I have no problem with a guy throwing an exploding shoulder along the boards like that, Wild players do it all the time, but he threw his elbow back. That's the big difference. You don't brace yourself by throwing back your elbow. Elbowing is elbowing no matter what context you want to put it in. |

Contradiction. He connected with Browns elbow which wasnt forced with his face as it was being thrusted into his face? |

actually pominville was slowing down. meaning the majority of his body was leaning backward (to stop) and brown decided it was necessary to leave the puck. put hit shoulder down and lift his elbow up. pominville stopping caused his head to be lower than usual. and brown elbowed him directly in the grill. |
