We all know the D core did not eat enough oats this season. G'damn it guys start buying adamantium laced vitamins! Somthing! - FlyersGrace
I'd be happy with mithril laced vitamins at this point. |

A lot of teams, many of them very successful, don' t have true number 1 dmen. I think Schenn can however be a top pair guy who can be matched against another teams top line. - BiggE
I guess that's my point then too. With that in mind, there's about 10 #1 defenseman in the league. You're not gonna get one of those without blowing up the team. |

I agree with all of that. There's more then one way to skin a cat. The scarcity of true #1 defenseman is what makes them so valuable and costly to obtain.

See a lot of people say this but how many are there really?
Boston has Chara, Chicago has Keith, Detriot had Lindstrom, LA has Doughty, Rangers have Staal, Pittsburgh has Letang, Montreal has Subban, St Louis has Pietrangelo.
The way I see it, most of the consistently top teams in the league, have that #1 guy.

The organization did yes, the city was ready to crucify him. - GirouxForTheShow
According to THN they called his father every time he took a short cut or got out of line. He was so cocky the first year he was with the Marlies that they couldn't teach him the defensive side of the game. He just wanted to skate around and score. |

Excellent point. Add that to a cap hit of 5.7million for 7 years and you have my case for buying him out. - BiggE
I like what I've seen from Mason so far, but it has been a short time. He has the skills, but over a full season concerned what happens if he goes back to playing like he did over the past few seasons in Columbus.
If they buy out Danny Boy they might stick with Bryz another year to see what happens. |

I would say that a team like Chicago, is lucky enough to even have two of them, Keith and Seabrooke. Although I don't think Staal in NY is a #1. But when you have a player like that, they can control a game, and control the puck from the back end of the ice. And they have a huge impact on the game. It's great to have one. And it certainly is easier to build a Championship team with one. But it can be done by committee.

To me it really is.
Or at the very least having a d-core that isn't made up of guys best suited to secondary 2nd pairing roles.
Dont like mediocrity. |

Throw in Vancouver with Edler, Ottawa with Karlsson, Minny with Suter, Nashville with Weber, and Phoenix with OEL in the future. These are all really solid upper d-men that have smarts and talent.
Having a guy like that truly adds a great element to a team. |

Staal isn't a #1, Lidstrom is gone but ill give him to you, and you still only named 7 out of 30 teams. I said 10 without even thinking about it and I think that might be high. |

The point of my post was that most of the consistently elite teams in the league, have #1 d-men or guys who are pretty damn close to it.
Just look what an even declining Pronger did for the Flyers. Twizzler boy. How goes it? |

No he isn't and will never be, his upside is a #2 shutdown defensive defensiveman according to a friend with telepathy. |

It goes and goes, unleashing peanuts along the way. I made a woman with a 13.1 bumper sticker (I assume biblical reference) cry today on the local major road in my area. Felt bad afterwards (sorta), felt great though at 6 am heading to work. Getting the first freak out of the day off your chest early allows for smooth unleashing throughout the day. |

Haha I assume by yelling at her while driving?
I never had that but recently had some crazy guy run after me with a bat because I told him to "get back in his car before he falls on his ass and gets a heart attack". Crazy idiot almost clipped me coming out of a mall.
I thought you were going to college? Or is it a part time thing? Looking for a new job myself, an old company I used to work for is hiring people for their youth crisis intervention team. Hectic but interesting. |
