I'm not convinced that home ice is a huge advantage if playing the Habs. The way that the two teams are playing now, my only worry for the Leafs is inexperience and nerves. I think that is likely to be more of an issue in Game 1 and if they do crap the bed in their first game, it would hurt to burn an away game. Either way, I see beating the Habs.

Michael,

"but would also have to win against the Panthers on Thursday and hope that Montreal loses in Winnipeg to make the season finale consequential"

Either of those (not both) things happen and Saturday is big. Leafs hold the tiebreaker(s).

Win tonight and simply match Montreal tomorrow.

bostons still tied with montreal... theyre no farther ahead other than a game in hand... but ya boston plays tbay the night after we do which is probably a win... at least we kinda control our own destiny against montreal
- DarcyTucker16

It is the game in hand that I was counting the odds that the Leafs win two more than them.. is unlikely.. although the way they are playing it is possible.

But if the Leafs win the next two games.. don't they drop the final game vs the habs in a close game.. just to get home ice.. and a series against the Habs..

Besides if we blow them out in that last game it will motivate them more...

A win or a close game would over inflate the Habs egos and lead to a sweep or 5 gamer.. in the playoffs.

We definitely can't blow them out.. and beat them up like we did earlier in the season.. the last win where we destroyed them but put it on autopilot for the last half of the game.. actually made many Hab fans & players think that they outplayed us and we got lucky bounces.. it led to their losing streak.

When we crushed them.. they went on a winning streak. We need to play this close.. for our best interests.. a 3-1 win or 3-2 would be our best bet for that last game... especially if we do it early.. and then keep them at arms length for the rest of the game.

We don't need to give them any bulletin board material.

I agree not by the inexperience because I think we have a lot of darkhorses.. that are playoff men.. but considering we probably will get louder support from Leafs fans in Montreal.. taking one of two in Habland would be more of a positive than losing one at home to the Habs...

If we get home ice advantage.. I could see it going 6 games.. but if we play away to start I see a 5 gamer...

one win in the first two.. and then a sweep the rest of the way.

I agree. As much fun as it would be to blow out the Habs to end the season, they will be back.

It scares the piss out of me that Price is falling apart right now because he's due for a bounce-back.

As for the bolded part, this reminds me of Healy's "The Habs just need one and they're back in this game" comment when we were up by four. Yeah, Reimer sure fell apart, alright. He was really shaky turning aside 36 out of 37 shots.

Does anyone else get the impression that TSN thought tonight's Edmonton/Chicago game would be a lot more interesting back when they agreed to broadcast it nationally?

I remember that. Reimer had stopped like 25/26 after 2 periods and he was talking about how Montreal was still in it because Reimer was playing horribly even though he was saving everything.

It's a damn shame a team like edmonton couldnt find the wins this year. With a team trying to develop so many young guns another playoff appearance would benefit all of them and make the west a little more interesting

I hate Healy he made a career of keeping young talented guys out of the line-up... sold his ass kissing leadership.. and nut-riding in the locker room to say that a veteran goalie presence was needed not someone actually challenging the #1.

That is why he hates young goalies... is it coincidence that he loves to play the bagpipes...? He has been blowing pipes, and squeezing bags his whole career.

I hate when crap goalies like him & Millen criticize talented goalies.. none of them could stop beachball... the only reason he has a stanley cup ring is because someone else won it for him.

Healy knows that Reimer has, in just three seasons, already proven himself to be twice the goalie he ever was.

He's doing a horrible job hiding his disdain. It doesn't help that they overlooked him for the Leafs' GM job.

I don't mind Millen as much as some people, but he is just another talentless hack. Why can't they get somebody with some degree of athletic competence to call the games? I guess the guys with charisma (if you can call Kevin Weekes charismatic) are the back-ups and 4th line plugs.

Listening to Weeks, Healy, and PJ fricken Stock rip on guys like Kessel or Reimer makes me want to puke.

Oilers could get the first pick this year again.. won't change anything.. they are a soft team.. that plays on the outside... they have veterans.. it is all an excuse... after a couple of more seasons they will re-sign some of these talented soft players to long-term deals.. and will be forced to rebuild again.

With the cap structure the window for producing is limited... maybe 7 years start to finish with top picks... they are on year 4 or 5... if they don't make the playoffs next season they will have to trade away some of this young talent by the trade deadline to move forward.

I love my leafies, but if we keep putting up these ridiculous predicitions of us killing Habs in the playoffs, I fear the worst (think back when sens fans year after year would tell us their team would smoke us in the playoffs having smoked us in the regular season).

He has an self-inflated sense of greatness that he has never deserved. He was a lousy goalie at best.

My penis has more hockey sense than him, when it gets into tight corners it bangs, and it never liked back-ups it only wanted to play against the best. It would never take honours for being a back-up, and it always loved rookies.. freshness was always a good thing not a negative.. and they were more readily available to learn and improve on their natural skills.

It does have "pride cometh before the fall" written all over it...

That's why I say we switch gears and start talking about how badly we're going to smoke the Sens or Rags once we win the division.
