Not really trying to kiss ass, but HB gives those of us not in the Philly area a chance to be exposed to more Flyer hockey/information.
As well to talk to other Flyer fans, which might not really be as possible in other areas of the world.
Keep on, keeping on. |

Need to get some emotion into it. |

Others just seem to like the High School drama and the TMZ nonsense. - MJL
Guess you're lumping Bill in there, too? All this talk about Bryz was in response to something that he wrote:
There are plenty of bright players in the NHL who are well-liked, including Russians. For instance, former NHL defenseman Alexander Khavanov -- one of the very few players who went to college in Russia while simultaneously launching a pro career -- was very well-liked and well-respected among his teammates, even with the cultural differences.
Plain and simple, Bryzgalov is not well-liked by teammates because it's their belief that he's thrown teammates under the bus on more than one occasion. He doesn't have to be a social butterfly, and goalies in general are often viewed as oddballs for various reasons.
When teams win, the disparate personalities co-exist. When they lose, the personality clashes that exist in every locker room become more significant and the finger-pointing starts.
Again, I personally don't believe that Bryzgalov is a bad guy or acts out of malice. But some of it is his own doing. He wasn't well-liked in Anaheim, Phoenix, Philly, CSKA or among Team Russia leadership during the NHL lockout; so some that has to be of his own doing beyond his play on the ice.
I will say, though, that Vladislav Tretiak backed Bryzgalov to the hilt when he was getting pilloried in the Russian media during the NHL lockout. - bmeltzer

No but, the rumor and drama mongerers notwithstanding, Bill has posted that the players feel Bryz has repeatedly "thrown them under the bus". This lends credibility to something that MJL has challenged in the past and discounted as rumors or media speculation. I think we have unequivocal evidence, it's real.

Yeah I didn't agree with bill on that... I pointed out briere has been worse in terms of production/cap hit and I got murdered...it's ok briere gets a pass because he's a nice guy and knows how to schmooze with the media.. I never see Danny getting the same scrutiny as bryz even though he's performed worse |

Like trade rumors, you have to take the reports of teammates not being well liked or whatever with a grain of salt. When you see a guy like Bill comment on them, I tend to believe it, because Bill is a credible writer that only ventures down that path when it's relevant.
Bill's stock in trade is very good hockey analysis and deep knowledge of European players. It's not often that he delves into the other junk that so enraptures the local media. |

Kind of lame though, because Bryz would probably be the guy I'd most like to go fishing with out of all of 'em. |

If you ever hung out with Russians you would know they have a quirky sense of humor... I don't doubt this guy takes the game seriously... At times he was the only one on the team trying in the beginning middle of the season |

I have stated my thoughts on this before. I think there's a certain code amongst players that you just don't say certain things to the media or even in "the room" in front of the team. Pointing fingers at other players can be taboo, especially for a "new guy" who has, himself, made some questionable plays. I don't know if it is Bryz's ignorance or cultural differences or some need to be brutally honest or to cause trouble or what, but it seems his statements do more to estrange him from his teammates than to endear. Though it's not always the case, it can bleed over into play on the ice. I've been on teams where the goalie was a douche, and you just don't feel as confident or as willing to have his back if he should say, let in a bad goal or two, as you would with someone you trust and respect.
I've said before, I think it would be best if Bryz was on media lockdown...I'll add that he should probably be told, in no uncertain terms, that he isn't to speak ill of any teammeates in the presence of others...at least until he earns the respect to do so. |
