You've been on the 'Briere Must Go!' bandwagon since you started posting here...we get it. But instead of being happy that he's probably outta here, you're now harping on other posters' points of view that he's been a good soldier while he's been here, and that it's not enough that he earned his keep (for the most part) in the playoffs.
We're all frustrated about missing the playoffs, man. - tangent_man

If you go back, this all started because another poster said he's been a big part of the organization for the past few years. I went back and changed it to "hasn't been a big part" because he hasn't other than his massive payroll hit. Several like to focus on the goalie and what he makes, sorry I found something more relevant and deserving of criticism. - JoeRussomanno

Bob - Marc D
while obviously sarcastic if we had bob playing like he is now all season we would be in the PIs. Not that goaltending is the issue but with those numbers we would have more points so.....yeah! Blame Bob! |

It's funny you guys will bring up Jeff carter and rag on him but this guy is guilty of more egregious lack of production yet he's a saint. - JoeRussomanno
Yep I did a jig when Carter left and you can do one when Briere goes.
Different strokes. Each player had a reason to walk out the door. Briere just doesn't punch my personal rage button like some of the others. |

I wouldn't judge Miller too much by how he acts in New York's version of Pittsburgh.
We used to have an emotionally charged guy in the nets in Philadelphia in the late 80's and mid 90's and I remember he was pretty popular here. - johndewar

If we're going to put the brunt of the blame on Lavi for problems at ES, shouldn't we also turn around and give him credit for their utter dominance on the PP and PK?
Maybe he's had Couturier on a short leash, and he hasn't managed to juice everything possible out of guys like Hartnell/Briere/Coburn, but doesn't he get credit for stewarding the assurgent play of guys like Voracek, Simmonds, and Luke Schenn?
Maybe he deserves some criticism for the way he's handled goalies in the past, but shouldn't we now give him credit for the way he's eased Mason into the net with eye-popping results?
I mean, let's be fair... Lavi's had the cards stacked against him from day one... short training camp, no time to practice, players fatigued/distracted/out-of-shape from lockout, mass injuries, key subtractions with no additions... all that has to be taken into account, too.
If I were giving Lavi a grade for the season, I'd say a solid C. Not good, but what he's done in the past makes him deserving of a shot at redemption under more favorable circumstances, IMO. - Tomahawk
I guess that is debatable and really boils down to what is discussed between him and Holmgren. Because to me if he's not willing to adapt what he does to the cards he's dealt, then he has to go. If he can do the adatping when called for I suppose one more shot aint gonna hurt. However I'd rather move in another direction. |

I think he has been a big part of the franchise, both for on ice reasons (largely in the postseason) and for reasons you've crassly insulted people for considering. Nobody is claiming he's been perfect, but... y'know what? Whatever. You're coming across just like those very 'Bryz haters' you're invoking in this post. |

Yeah, but that's neither Briere's fault, nor solely a Briere issue. And did those clauses stop us from getting the players we targeted this summer? - BulliesPhan87

See I don't get why people were so happy about Carter leaving and not Briere. Carter was up and coming, yes I got frustrated with him at times but I didn't arbitrarily absolve Briere from my frustration for being even more so unproductive and counter productive. At least Carter could backcheck and win faceoffs. |

You kind of did implicate him as a top reason for this season, the way you put it. I quote, "In a way yea it is his fault." I'm still waiting to hear how his cap hit was the issue this season.
Here's a question: Why is the focus on his subpar last two regular seasons? Are you saying we should've done this sooner? Because we didn't have the option to just jettison the guy, not until this offseason. - BulliesPhan87
Those sound like words that the run Bryz out of town crowd uses. |

He hasn't been a big part on the ice for a couple seasons now. showing up in two playoff series isn't two whole seasons, as in playoffs AND regular season. |

dominance on the PP and PK?
- Tomahawk
Look at their record. While the PP put up big numbers, far too frequently it was silent when it mattered.

This season's definitely been strange. With 48-games, the Flyers don't have a chance to dig themselves out of their usual early/mid-season doldrums, Kovalchuk goes down and NJ falls out of the picture, and teams like TOR and MIN who usually collapse come spring are still in the PO position.
I'd just really hesitate to make rash decisions based on this anomaly of a season if I were Homer/Snider. |
