As long as the Flyers don't draft Nichushkin I'm ok.
And as long as Homer doesn't go full retard and pick someone projected to go 18th or later... - FLYERSROCK!
I don't care if they do... just so long as their scouts feel so strongly about it that they are willing to stick their neck out.
Back in the 1991 draft, there was a Swedish forward rated by Central Scouting as a late first-round pick. The Hockey News called him a "poor man's Thomas Steen" and pegged him as a "solid second rounder who could sneak into the first", but ranked him in the mid-20s, one spot behind the forever-to-be-obscure Mike Pomichter. The THN draft show said most scouts projected this player's linemate to be the better future NHL player of the two (and he did go on to a fine career of his own but it took longer to blossom).
A Flyers scout named Inge Hammarström, who rarely got vehement about anything, strongly disagreed with the consensus. He argued so passionately with the other scouts who wanted Richard Matvichuk or Patrick Poulin -- with only scout Bill Dineen agreeing with Hammarström -- that GM Russ Farwell opted to select the guy that Hammarström pushed so heavily to take with the number six overall pick.
The player's name: Peter Forsberg.
I'm fine with a team going off the board for someone the consensus feels is a reach in that spot. But that hunch the team has had better be right.

Hehe that's awesome Bill...
Think Anaheim did the same with Hampus Lindholm last draft? Idk if we was even top 15 ranking, got picked 6th...
I hope they keep the pick Bill... I have a weird feeling we won't have it come our time to draft...
Not saying we don't but you asked who I'd pick and I don't know what the upside will be outside what is said by scouts. But I'd say he has something to work with.
- ob18
Literally all that told me is that he's a D man that can make a right left deke and can score an occasional shot because semi-pro finnish goaltending tends to let in bad goals...
I like Pulock's game. I like what I've watched of RR's game via highlights which doesn't say much. - ob18
Yeah, those handpicked highlights give the impression that he's some offensive dynamo and that's not the case. He's more of a two-way puck mover, though he has the skill to possibly become more of a point producer as well.
Similar thing with the Lindholm clips. They showed pretty much every time he threw a check, making him look like he plays a Forsberg-like physical game. He's not afraid of contact but he's not usually a hitter. Again, the clips show there's tools to develop that aspect but the editing paints a little bit of a deceptive picture about what his game is generally like right now.

I think it was Lindholm Seth Jones walloped at the blue line at the WJC. Surprised he got up

And then we traded him a year later
God bless Ed Snider
Buying out Pronger is a waste of a buyout. He understands his situation, he understands is low likelihood of coming back better than anyone. He understands his age, and he understands the burden his contract is to the team. He's a class guy, and I think if Homer nudged him towards retirement, he would probably do it. I think bringing back a nearly identical defense doesn't solve anything for us, either. Thats almost the exact defense that took us out of competition early on. Mez and Coburn both need to go, I think. If we could get Carlson, or Goligoski, or Shattenkirk, or heck even Pietrangelo (As much as that isn't going to happen), then our defense will be better off, even with Lauri and Gus holding down the 3rd pair. - JAKEw1234
I think it's a off year. And I would not make wholesale changes to our current blueline corps because we were forced to bring up practically everyone from the AHL. I think if Coburn & Meszaros were back and healthy, we'd still see this same renewed team that would need the season to be only another 10-20 games longer to get into the playoffs.
I'm not trying to take anything away from the kids and I do not think this precludes us trading a defensive D for a more Offensive one... but I agree with Homer's assement that I like our D when they are healthy (maybe with a Yandle for either Meszaros or Coburn)
Moral of the story... hang on to your drafted players if you're the Flyers, even if it's for Lindros or (insert name of coveted dman here). - Tomahawk
Moral of the story, if it at one point crosses your mind during trade negotiations that you are giving them so much stuff that this trade could end up being terribly one-sided, maybe you shouldn't do it. We gave them everything for a player that didn't even play for them, and they were going to lose the rights to as he was going to reenter the draft the next year. We gave them our everything for their nothing.
I don't understand his situation, does he have a rookie contract with us yet? Could we be seeing him at training camp or preseason next year? - JAKEw1234
He's signed for next year, but he's at least a couple few years away.

He is signed but if he doesn't make the roster he has to go back to London he is not eligible to be sent to the AHL.
You will probably see him for rookie camp & training camp but not likely to make the roster.
Look for him to spend some time in the AHL first, this will also fall into fans needing patience with prospects most are not going to come in and play right away.

Pronger can't be bought out, unless he suddenly gets cleared by a doctor to play again. Also, if he retires, it royally screws the Flyers, because then they can not LTIR his $4.93mm cap hit. Pronger will likely stay on LTIR until his deal ends,
The Flyers main problem was not the defense corps. It was the style of game they played. When guys like Coburn and Meszaros got dinged, they scaled back the attack and forced the forwards to commit more to a two way game. They still need a puck mover and mobility in the top 4, but a complete overhaul is not necessary.

not COMPLETE overhaul, keep 1 of the 2, trade the other in a deal for yandleogoskisonenkirk, and have lauri and gus hold the 3rd pair.
