Anyone else routing for STL and against the Pens In the 1st round? Not trying to be a poor sport but I like seeing the cup passed around. |

I can't wait until one of PIT, CHI, or WSH wins the Cup so we can all start lusting after attack systems again.
- Tomahawk
Haven't seen Washington play much. But Pittsburgh and Chicago most definitely don't play the recklessly over aggressive style of play that the Flyers played for most of the Season. Both teams can play more then one style, and are committed to solid play in all 3 zones. Unlike the Flyers who for most of the Season, pretty much forechecked hard, and if you can make one pass, or chip off the glass, it was odd man rushes all game long.
In fact I watched one game when the Flyers played Pittsburgh. The Pens scored the go ahead goal early in the 3rd. Switched to a 1-2-2 forecheck, and checked the FLyers all over the ice. The Flyers never came close to scoring the tieing goal. So it's not about attack systems, and not being in favor of it. It's about playing the right way, in all 3 zones. And how the Flyers played most of the Season is not it.
So in conclusion, not sure where your comment is coming from.

Not well-liked in Anaheim either, especially when he was trying to usurp the starting role there and made it all too clear that he couldn't wait for them to get rid of Giguere... even went as far as to say Giguere would have been traded but "nobody wanted him".
Whether or not he's a good/great/elite goaltender is debatable, but what's not debatable is that he's always been a huge distraction on every team he's played on for a variety of reasons, including this summer in Russia where differences in language/culture couldn't be used as an excuse. - Tomahawk
This is how it starts. This is the same crap as with Richards and Carter. Now according to you, Bryzgalov has never been liked anywhere he has played, including in Russia. And has been a huge distraction on every team he played on. Bunch of high school gossip, and pure nonsense.

So is everyone now off of the "Bryz is a great guy who is just misunderstood" train? Because that train had a lot of passengers during the season. - Flyers_01
No, everyone is now on the Bryz is a distraction train. And you know what's it's all about? Results. That tells you how much baloney it is. If Bryz had a great year, which is all but impossible for any Goalie but the elite playing behind how this team played this year. None of this would even be talked about. But he would still have the same personality, and none of that would be different. This is like reading the gossip column, no kidding.

http://mobile.philly.com/sports/flyers/?wss=/philly/sports/flyers&id=204961591&viewAll=y#more. Love the indictment of Homer here. Anyone who thought this team was "fine as is" is blind. Gervais to replace Carle. Really? No Jagr. No JVR. Ok...Schenn was a great add, but we weren't deep and we have been sorely missing Pronger for 2 years. How many strikes does he get? Lets see, Parise, Suter, Weber... That's 3 right there. Too much of a step back to have any hope for success. I'm just thankful it was a short season. Watching this all year would have been painful. - section32
Gervais wasn't signed to replace Carle. Sometimes with a young team you have to take a step back to move forward. It was time to move on from Jagr. And time for other players to play a bigger role, such as Voracek. The moves Holmgren tried to make were for the long term. Not the short term. It is one Season of growing pains. The future is still bright. There is a big picture to consider.

Not buying it. The reason we lost out on these marquee players is because every long term contract Homer signs gets traded the next year. Carter, Richards, JVR. Who is next...Giroux? People don't trust him and that's why we lost out on those deals. - section32
You're making a huge leap, and a huge assumption there. So I guess the Flyers will never sign a top Free Agent again. Refresh my memory, why did Suter and Parise sing in Minnesota? And Shea Weber did sign the OS, did he not?

even though i agree w/ many of his concerns, they had zero place on the nhl stage. i would take him if it meant that the dog and pony show w/ bryz ended. not entirely bryz's fault, but like bob once said, he gets paid to stop the puck. - isaiah520
Yea, because there's no dog and pony show with Thomas! |

Ohhhhhh....
Because it was Homer's fault Poile matched, and it was Homer's fault that Parise and Suter signed with Minnesota.
It all makes sense now.

I love this fallacy that Lavi never adjusts on the fly... Lavi never adjusted the breakout scheme against Tampa to test their 1-4... and Lavi never down-shifted to a passive 1-3-1 or 1-2-2 with a lead late in games. Lavi's this robot that has a string and when you pull it he shouts "3 guys deep! 3 guys deep!" If only he were as smart as the guys who posted over at hockeybuzz... grrrrr.

If he was a smarter coach he would have adjusted before all the major injuries struck in late March, and the Flyers would be in the playoffs. The first two months of this season his stuck to his system of a three man forecheck combined with aggressive pinching, and it lead to a continual stream of odd man rushes for other teams. |

Kinda like Briere did this year. Yes, I know he has a NTC, but he probably would have waived if asked. But this way he didn't have to. |
