Clarksons not a guy I would target.
- Just5

I am all in favour of power forward type of players.

Can never have enough imo. This team needs to be tougher to play against, especially on the wall. Depending on the asking price I would have interest.

I think the Flyers may as well, if the rumors for Clowe were true.

Kinda like Briere did this year. Yes, I know he has a NTC, but he probably would have waived if asked. But this way he didn't have to.
- section32

Wait man.

Are you saying Briere faked an injury to avoid being traded?

Sometimes I cant tell when people are just trolling. No offense.

I love this fallacy that Lavi never adjusts on the fly... Lavi never adjusted the breakout scheme against Tampa to test their 1-4... and Lavi never down-shifted to a passive 1-3-1 or 1-2-2 with a lead late in games. Lavi's this robot that has a string and when you pull it he shouts "3 guys deep! 3 guys deep!" If only he were as smart as the guys who posted over at hockeybuzz... grrrrr.

- Tomahawk

This post shows your lack of knowledge of systems and how the Flyers play. The Flyers play a hybrid left wing lock. It's not a 1-3-1, or a 1-2-2. About the only adjustment Laviolette makes is in the posture of the 3rd forward, when the team was healthy and wasn't playing with most of it's entire D core out injured. When it mattered most, he failed to adjust. If they had, I think this team is in the playoffs.

The Tampa situation was not a normal situation and what Laviolette employed there is not, and never would be a normal strategy that a team would employ and use all season long. It was a one time deal. Tell me against what other team did you see the Flyer use that strategy, besides TB in that one game? What is being discussed is having a team that is capable of playing more them one style of play, to match opponents and game situations that can be used on a regular basis. Passing the puck back and forth between defenseman and not advancing the puck. To the point where the refs blow play dead, and warn the team that they will penalize them for it, is not it. Not sure why that needs to be explained to you.

And the next time I read a comment from you criticizing Paul Holmgren, I will remind of your statement that " If only he were as smart as the guys who posted over at hockeybuzz."

what about the long terms that we're now stuck with? Briere, Pronger, Bryz. I think he just flat out signs too many long terms, or atleast he signs them with the wrong players.
- JAKEw1234

Briere and Bryz can be bought out. Pronger will be on LTIR forever. I realize that amnesty wasn't in the CBA when those deals were signed, but now is an opportunity to reset the deck. Although we will probably max out the card all over again.

Not according to me.

According to Bill and according to current and ex-teammates, both on and off the record.

- Tomahawk

What current teammates have gone on the record saying they don't like Bryzgalov?

And how may ex teammates have gone on the record?

I read what Bill wrote. And I have the utmost respect for him. But I don't agree with posting that info, unless it's going to be documented, and with names named.

Because of lot of fans will make it into far more then it is. And were seeing that here.

Gallagher in Montreal is being talked about, regarding he is how the Habs should play. The identity.

The kid has been a really nice find for them.

Just shows how much always keeping your legs moving, and giving 101% every shift does. Flyers need more of that attitude. Need to find a way to keep that engine going continously, to take the next step forward. That is a key, no matter what system is played.

I'm saying that it's impossible to tell with a concussion. I personally think JVR did exactly that last year. Just my opinion. When players get traded you always hear them say " I understand it is a business". In other words, it's ok for the organization to be unfeeling and have no conscience. So, if I'm a player, I would protect my best interest with any means necessary to protect my career. And if having a concussion linger to ensure what I see best then so be it. Everyone gets up in arms when people suggest that athletes aren't above such behavior. That's such BS. They are humans. Ask Barry Bonds. Ask Lance Armstrong. When Lance was doping the drugs weren't detectable. Well, we all know concussions are very subjective.

Haha I dont think Lance did any doping, but thats just me.

Get what you are saying though. Not sure Briere would be that kind of guy, even though I am sure it has happened in sports before. These guys are just human, and damn greedy as the last lockout showed.

So how did JVR faking an injury so he wouldn't be traded work out for him?

And taking performance enhancing substances is a completely different situation then faking an injury.

So, what I'm taking from a lot of this chatter is that Mez is somewhat on the outs due to his recent stretch of debilitating injuries and that the Flyers could use a little extra cap relief to help fill out their D. I'll admit, I've loved Mez's game since his days in Ottawa and would love for the Oilers to give him a shot to turn around his career. With the imminent loss of Whitney in the offseason, the Oil will need at least one more Dman capable of effectively breaking out of the zone. Enter Meszaros.

Taking his recent injury history into consideration, what would you consider a fair value for him from the Oilers? Is there even a deal to be had?

What would you be willing to give?

Sorry trying to keep the giggling inside, that someone would actually be interested in Mez. He is a damn good player, and one of my favourites, but even I will admit the injuries are a big concern.

The most I'd be willing to give is a prospect on the level of Teubert along with a mid-round pick in the 2014 draft (mostly cause we traded all our 3rd and 4th this year for Fisty and Brown respectively). Nothing significant, obviously, but it's something.

Dont really want Teubert but I would take any kind of draft pick.

How do you feel about the Oilers current situation. I'm more along the lines of not liking the make-up of the team. Far too many talented, but soft forwards expected to lead the way.

Ohhhhhh....

Because it was Homer's fault Poile matched, and it was Homer's fault that Parise and Suter signed with Minnesota.

It all makes sense now.

3 strikes yer out! Them's the rules!

Look, I'm glad he swung for the fences. We have been known for exactly that sort of moxie. Here's the problem... He stood behind his team and said "I'm happy with my team". In this town it is cup or bust. There has been a lot of bust over the last almost 40 years. And I don't think we are seen as a destination of choice anymore when long term star players get traded the season after they sign the deal. And it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that this team was not as good as last year with the players lost. You never know if the youngsters will be able to make up that ground. This year, they couldn't. But anyone who thought we were a playoff team was fooling themselves. And so was mr,,I'm happy with my team.

I am not suprised where they finished overall in the standings. I didnt expect them to be as bad as they were some nights, but there are a lot of better teams out there. I think they will be back next year, and big Fa's would still really consider them as a realistic option to sign.

There is no question that this team had the talent to be a playoff team. The poor Coaching, injuries, and the some players not playing as well as they can, derailed that. You will see in the future that the past trades will have zero to do with players wanting to sign with the Flyers. That's just fantasy. it is a great organization, a great Hockey town. And a team that is always willing to spend money. That's all that matters.

What's he gonna say?

"I let go of some players and missed some coveted guys, Panotch...this team sucks. I'm so mad at myself and this team is gonna flat out suck this year."

By the way, I'm happy with this team right now, for what it's worth (which is exactly zero but I don't care). Could we maybe try to improve it? Sure. And I wouldn't have a problem with it, as long as we don't trade away a bunch of the kids.
