If Domi is around at 11 when we pick if nothing changes, do the Flyers take him. Steve Simmons of the Toronton Sun said if he is around at 19 where he is currently listed he would eat his column. Is he that good that he could warrant a top ten or 11 pick? - Daceroni
Depends who else is on the board at 11. I think it would be a little bit of a reach to take him there. Especially with our D needs. If he is still available after 15 I would consider moving up with the 2nd rounder to take him.
Much like Bobby Clarke I think some teams could possibly shy away from taking him so early with his condition. |

No one is taking Mesz. I think we all should be able to agree on this. Look at all the injuries. Look at his cap hit. Look at the salary cap coming down. Why would anyone possibly trade anything for that?
And I say that as someone who is a huge Mesz fan.
- hereticpride
Mez absolutely is tradeable, very reasonable cap hit 4 mil and is in the last year of his deal. When healthy he is a top 4 dman problem is he hasnt been healthy recently. |

When the coach has a defenseman who is not Matt Carle, trying to play Matt Carle's game, it is not the fault of the defenseman that he cannot do what is asked of him and it throws off all facets of his game. - Flyskippy

Typical whipping boy blahg...that guy sounds like he's projecting/scapegoating all the team's problems onto Buff (sound familiar). But, you know, this is how you can maybe snag a top producing d man that otherwise wouldn't be on the market... If the price wasn't too high, I'd bring him here as part of the team, without the weight of the franchise on him...get him working hard with Hatch and Prongs and the staff...again, it's a bit of a risk, but, if nothing else, you're probably going to get the 50+ pt production, which doesn't seem like such a horrible scenario when taking a chance on a guy.
Again, I'm not saying Buff is "the" answer here, but he could be part of a solution...looking forward, they're likely going to need more than just one top 4 offensive type once Timo is done and there's just no established #1 stud that's available...Big buf is on a small list of those who at least approach that kind of realm who may become available. I'm just trying to have an objective, open mind about the guy...the vitriol here for him amongst some seems inordinate. - exlund
yeh they will ask for Couts in exchange for Buff... I can't see that

Let's put it this way. He's got the speed, ice vision and hands of a top 10 pick. But he's also small, in sort of the fireplug way his father or Kimmo Timonen is built. So if a team is willing to overlook his lack of height, he could move up.

There isn't room on the Flyers for Simmons, Hartnell and Clarkson all making $4m to $5m a year. - Feanor
the post i was quoting implied hartnell was traded for a defenseman, at which point we would no longer be paying him. |

He's missed 57 games over the last two years, including repeated injuries to his shoulders. He might be tradeable, but he's not going to get a lot in return. |

It does hurt. But coming out and saying that they're in deep trouble hurts in a few ways. First of all, it tells the current roster that you have little faith in their ability to win. It also sends a message to other GM's that you're desperate and can be taken advantage of.
Is it smart to overpay in a deadline deal? Especially this year? There's a lot of other factors in play here. Short year, shorter camp, compressed schedule at the beginning all really hurt and put them in a bad spot out of the gate.
Even with all the troubles, in an 82 game season, they probably rebound and make the playoffs. As rough as things were this year, it's a trip, not a fall off a cliff. - Jsaquella
I'll buy that, but most fans in this city don't take missing the playoffs lightly. We are spoiled and expect to win. |

Briere's down regular seasons the last two years have had a lot to do with injuries that could hamper any player. He's had concussions each of the last two seasons, a groin pull last season and a hairline wrist fracture that made him miss the start of this season. - bmeltzer
It is just coincidentally odd that he has a miraculous recovery sometime around the end of April. |

He was obviously faking to avoid being traded. Never mind that he has a NMC.

It shouldn't be taken lightly. I'd be making more changes than Holmgren seems to be contemplating. I would have fired the coach already, and I'd be looking at more than just the defense, which seems to be their primary focus this summer. |

I think the offense will be fine if they improve their breakout and transition game. But with Laviolette still here, that's a huge if.

I see. I'm not opposed to trading Hartnell if you could get a really good defenseman in return. But he has a NTC which I can't see him waiving. |

Should I be worried that with a healthy lineup next season, Laviolette will abandon any of the system changes they've employed with this younger, inexperience defense? If he can tweak his system next year with better talent in there, the Flyers will have a much different season.
Now I just have to wonder what the defense will look like next season, given the fact that so many guys went down with injury this year. I haven't read into Grossman lately, so I'm not sure how he's doing, but Mez scares the hell out of me with all of these injuries.
At least Timonen proved this year he can still play and play hard, even through injury, depsite his slow start. Love that guy! |

Hartnell provides a lot of spunk to the lineup, even when he's not producing offense. Next year he needs to be much better, but the team seems flat at times when he's not in the lineup. If they moved him, you need to find another guy that can get under other teams' skin. Simmonds shows it at times, but can also go quiet for stretches at a time. |

Trading Mez now would be like selling low on a decent stock. You'd get almost nothing coming the other way. |

Ya could be interesting then for sure but I do understand if he is passed at 11 for some ranked higher and would fit our needs better |
