After hearing and reading about how bad Luke Schenn was in Toronto... too slow, goes for the hit which leaves him exposed and gives up odd man rushes, couldn't crack the Leafs top 6, etc...
I'd say his emergence has been the biggest surprise for me.
Mason has been great, but to me I want to take the wait and see attitude on him.
I love that he has shown flashes of excellence, can he do it consistently?
I think if they can continue to play good team D, both goalies will hugely benefit. - Marc D
Luke has been a pretty big surprise too, but when the flyers traded for mason the impression I got was the flyers got someone who can take starts but won't battle for the starting job. I mean look how bad mason was the past few years. Not saying a player can't rebound from such stretch but gee whiz he is nothing I thought he'd be.
Now getting back to Luke schenn, I kinda figured that A his deficiencies were exaggerated and B his potential of being an Adam foote might be too. Well it looks like B was for real and A was how a lot of us figured. Quick note, JVr was exaggerated on how bad he was too.
But hey if Luke was a bigger surprise that's fine too cause he has been a big surprise himself.

Yandle is usually adequate defensively, just not physical at all. Unless Phoenix comes down significantly in the alleged trade returns they've demanded from other teams that have asked about Yandle -- not just the Flyers -- he's not going anywhere.
There's a possibility that Byfuglien will be available this summer, once Bogosian is re-signed. With Enstrom's extension kicking in next year, the Jets would have three big-ticket contracts on D but still glaring needs for more talent up front.
Ek thinks the Flyers will explore the Byfuglien possibility. I personally am NOT at all in favor of the Flyers even thinking down that avenue. If I am giving up valuable assets and paying a premium for a Dman to place in my top pairing, I want someone who can be counted on to produce consistent effort (not just talking desirable results -- I mean compete level) and be in reasonably good physical condition. - bmeltzer
It would be such a flyer type of move to trade for him. I don't want this guy anywhere near us. But you know flyers brass still thinks about 2010

That makes me wonder because should they take MacKinnon as another good forward to go with Jonathan Huberdeau on another line it could be awesome for them but then you'd say how can you pass on Seth Jones. - ob18
They definitely could use a flashy forward more than adding another dman to their already impressive depth there.
But there's an awfully good chance (75%) that they'll have that decision made for them. Even if they do beat the odds, FLA has historically never been shy about trading out of that top spot. |

big buff you mean?
I'd take Yandle in a second if a reasonable deal could be worked out. |

They can't pass him up. Everyone needs Seth jones outside of maybe 5-7 teams in the playoffs |

Big Buff is NOT a #1. He is a point producing big guy who is not quite a defenseman, not quite a forward...who is regularly not in the best shape.
He is wildly inconsistent both on and off the ice.
No thanks.

Only during the June buyout window, if I'm not mistaken. - Tomahawk
Then I'd hold bryz for one more year in case things go sour with mason and his agent. Say what you want about bryzgalov but I think we all can agree, he's better than what got us to game 6 of the scf's and his cap hit is manageable. Also we have what looks like a developing yet promising prospect with stolarz in the works. |

I'm still having a hard time understanding these new lotto rules. We have a 1.5 percent shot at first overall, but do they still do a lotto for picks 2-12? Or are they all decided by who goes first? |

All decided by the first pick, then everyone else picks according to finish.

All you need to know is that if there is a way that we can get screwed over.. we will. Until we hit the podium at the draft, I expect us drafting after the winner of the SC. |

The thing this week that really bothered me the most was hearing our beloved and trusted blogger say Bryz was not liked by team mates for throwing other players under the bus. Also the reports that Lavi and Bryz don't see eye to eye.
I hate this kind of stuff.
It reminds me of the rumors of the divided locker room when Pronger came here, not getting along with Richards and Carter.
I don't remember Bryz's comments or what he said about his teammates. I do know he always seems to be brutally honest about his own performance when he is bad. He also is maybe too candid about how if they lost a certain game they were "done". I think it referred to the back to back games with the Devils in mid March. But I can't remember him backstabbing his teammates. Maybe it is how he reacts to goals with his exaggerated body language.
I think if there is truth to these things it makes it tough for Bryz's future here.
I know winning solves everything, but with the youth and holes on D they have, consistent winning may be 2-3 years away. |

Lottery for first pick only. Say Phoenix which is sitting at 12 wins it. Flyers would then pick 12 Bc yotes jumped ahead of them. But if Florida wins the lottery. Flyers will stay at 11 which is the overwhelming scenario.
All added up flyers prob have a 97% chance to pick 11th |

They could go either way Florida needs help but that would be a tough 1 - 2 center combo for years to come. |

Yeah, I noticed that too, but apparently, he was not well liked in Phoenix. I don't think he ever threw his teammates under the bus, he's just too honest as you say. I think he was right about when the season was over. I felt it was after the loss to the Rangers.. collapse vs the Penguins at home then the loss to the Bruins in succession. That was it.. |

25% chance of winning the lottery is not that great at all, considering it used to be around 48-50% for the worst overall?
If they do win it, and are open to trading down, do we inquire what they would want for the #1? |

At 11 you need to add a significant player or two to make that happen. 11th overall, Coots & Read or 11th overall and Jake would probably be the asking price. |
