Thats why I would rather make a play for JayBo, I know he was just acquired, but St. Louis is going to have to break the bank for Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk won't come cheap either, and both of those guys are going to be a higher priority to them than JayBo who will cost them nearly 7 million next year.
I would offer this years 2nd, next years 1st, and Cousins and hope they would take Mez just to offset the cap $$ a little. If not, I would trade Mez for the best available offer. A D of:
JayBo-Schenn
Kimmo-Coburn
Grossmann-Gus
would work for me. - BiggE

The core of this team has all the makings of a SC winning team, but they're young and they have to go through some ups and downs.
For a second there, I thought Laviolette lost the team this year. But they looked really good down the stretch with basically an AHL defensive core. I think the players trust Lavy, and like him a lot. Scott Hartnell's play since Lavy's arrival just proves that. - KGBflyers10
The Flyers did a nice job considering all the injuries. The defense was much better than expected down the stretch. The kids gained some valuable experience and hopefully we have some depth incase of injuries next year. Seems like they found a style that fits them at the end of the season. |

Hey I'd take Tim Thomas so long as he keeps politics out of the locker room - JoeRussomanno
even though i agree w/ many of his concerns, they had zero place on the nhl stage. i would take him if it meant that the dog and pony show w/ bryz ended. not entirely bryz's fault, but like bob once said, he gets paid to stop the puck. |

Thats ridiculous! We lost on Parise/Suter cause they wanted to go home and we lost on Weber cause Nashville matched.
Hartnell and Timonen just came off 6 year deals and were re-signed and Briere just finished year 6 of an 8 year deal; by your logic all 3 would have been traded in 2008!
There are enough legitmate reasons to criticize Homer: failure to have a backup goalie in place or anyone other than Giroux that can win a faceoff at the start of the season to name a few. No need to create reasons that don't exist. The Carter, Richards and JVR trades were hockey deals, they werent moved just to get rid of them. - BiggE
Um no... Carter and Richie and JVR were supposed to be our future. They sign long term deals and get run out of town. Then you use Briere as an example and he is about to be bought out. If he didn't have that NTC, he probably wouldn't have made it this long. And now they can buy him out. Buh bye Danny boy. And JVR was "injured" at the trade deadline with a mysterious concussion. Didn't take Homer long to ship him out for the same player that we were looking for at the trade deadline. |

Mason looks good. Hopefully he gets even better. He's at the perfect age to grow with this club. |

Briere will be gone.
Bryz is could go either way. He may get one more season to showcase himself.
I love the way Mason plays in net. |

Not buying it. The reason we lost out on these marquee players is because every long term contract Homer signs gets traded the next year. Carter, Richards, JVR. Who is next...Giroux? People don't trust him and that's why we lost out on those deals. - section32
No, they lost out because Suter and Parise wanted to go home and play in Minny.....simple as that |

I will point out that everyone and their mother seemed to know this. And it seemed the Flyers were forced to sit around and wait while other options went off the board one by one.
None of the options were in the Suter/Parise/Weber category of course. But I personally think Homer tied his own hands on a pipe dream when it came to the Minny boys.

Mr. Stupidity Hartnell comes into play there.
Not in a straight up deal, I think the Flyers could get a little more coming back. - flyer_nutter
Trade hartnell and you'll just open up another hole in the lineup. That's not an easy hole to fill. I think hes more important to the team than a grossman or coburn |

It would be nice to have Stolarz develop into something as well. Saw a few people raving about his play, but havent had the time to watch at all. He is a big guy, so I would be curious if his good stats are solely because of his positional play, or there are some acrobatics in there as well.

what concerns me is that this may be the best season to buy out bryz simply because the mkt for goalies will favorable for buyers. i see amnesty for him being inevitable for so many reasons. |

Be that as it may, them not signing here had zero to do with them fearing being traded downd the line. To me, that's asinine |

It's clear that Homer has such a problem with trading young guys that he has to injure them himself to stop his urge from trading everybody.
Go to Homer's office, leave with a concussion.

Söberg: Think former Flyers prospect Mario Kempe. Blazing speed, undersized. Good on breakaways but can't seem to finish regularly. Two-way upside but more on the PK side of things.
Cehlarik: Slovak with good size and hands. Iffy skating, D needs work,
Högberg: Athletic but very raw junior goalie. Did get into a few Elitserien games this year but needs more time.
Press: Converted forward with good athleticism. Still learning position.
Hansson: Sleeper with potential as a puck-mover. Has been a very good 2-way in J20. - bmeltzer

Look...we can afford more than most. We could have overpaid and got one of these guys. It's nice to say "I want to play in my hometown" but they got full FMv. There was no discount here. And Homer could have overpaid and gotten one. But it wasn't like they gave a home town discount. |

what about the long terms that we're now stuck with? Briere, Pronger, Bryz. I think he just flat out signs too many long terms, or atleast he signs them with the wrong players. |

Player evaluation I would say is one aspect that could improve.
The organization seems to get really high on players when they have good years, or hot streaks, but ignore the opposite.
