I think it comes down to the desperation contract they gave him. Unless he leads us to a cup next year I don't see how they keep the contract. And that is nothing against Bryz. That is their own damn fault for forcing themselves into that situation.
But yeah, barring major, major overhauls this team isn;t going to be making a cup run next year I wouldn't my money on seeing Bryz here in 2014-2015. - hereticpride
I'd be okay if they keep Bryzgalov long term. However they need to really make sure he is the guy long term. Be damn sure of that, and make sure its what he wants as well.
This is just speculation of course, but I do wonder how badly Bryzgalov would want to remain in Philly for the rest of his contract. |

I wouldn't call it a desperation contract.

Stating that all Carle does is turn the puck over is not accurate. Nor is he a liability on defense. Again, that is inaccurate. Who are the many guys out there who can produce equally? - MJL
Seabrook, Del Zotto, Tyutin, Ehrhoff, Carlson, Wideman, Shattenkirk, Partin, Ekman-Larsson, Hamhuis, Beauchemin, Voynov, Joshson, Zidlicky, Wiercioch, McDonagh, Leddy, Josi, SOuray, Corvo, Seidenberg, and Salo are many of the players that had equal or close numbers in points this year, most of them are smaller liabilities on defense. If you think it'd be impossible for us ro acquire 1 name from this list, then I don't know what to tell you. |

Doesnt the Bryz debate basically boil down to: do they buy him out this offseason or next? I cant see any way they keep him for 7 more years with a 5.7 million cap hit. So the only real question to ask is whats better for next season: Bryz at 5.7 or is their an equivalent option at a better price. Personally I would rather pay someone like Ray Emery 2 million or so and pair him with Mason; leaving the team more cap flexibility. As I've said before, I think Bryz is good but not good enough for his cap hit. - BiggE

Beauchemin really re-gained his form in Anaheim after the blip in Toronto.

So basically you're going to just pick any name out of a hat, and just name anybody, and say, see all those players are available to the Flyers that they can get? That's about what I expected as a follow up based on your original point on Carle. |

They're all great players, and most of them are better than Carle in my opinion. Offense on the blue-line shouldn't automatically mean defensive liabilities, and almost any one of these guys could bring it. (Not all, of course. And some are just having good half-seasons) |

I imagine next year, when Braydon Coburn is allowed to be Braydon Coburn and not supposed to try to be Matt Carle, people will think "Where was this guy last year before he got hurt?" - Flyskippy
Coburn's a professional. He will bounce back. I don't actually have an issue with sticking with our Non-injured starting lineup with Gus filling out the 6th spot for next year. However I have a feeling we are going to have to replace Kimmo at some point. |

Ya, that's exactly what I was saying. No, you just asked who all the numerous players were out there are that produce like Carle. Here's a list. I'm not saying any of these guys are the answers to our problems, I'm saying 1 in there could possibly be a decent helper to one problem on our blue-line. I'd like to get Goligoski, personally. And he performs on a higher level offensively than Carle, which is why he wasn't on that list. |

I strongly believe it would be a disaster to go with this group again next year, even assuming everyone besides Pronger is healthy and playing. You have to address the top line. Pronger is gone and Kimmo will be soon as well. You have Schenn but you have no one else that even belongs sniffing the top line. What happens if the FA group is weak next year too? |

My mistake, I'll clarify. What I meant by out there, I meant what players are actually available. There's a lot of defenseman in the League who are better players then Carle is.
But your description of Carle as a player is not accurate in my opinion. |

100% agreed. Once you decide to move on, no need to wait a year to do it. What's changed your mind on bryz? Masons play? - SMS4016
Honestly, he doesn't seem to want to stay in Philly. I'd have no issue if he stayed, but I'm also at the point where it wouldn't faze me if he was bought out.
I had an open mind that he'd play better, and while I still don't think he's the problem, he's not the solution. |

Not to mention won't cost an arm and a leg.
I use what the gave up for a 34 year old Pronger and increase that if people want a top pair d-man who is roughly 10 years younger. |

Any player can be aquired for the right price. I think Goligoski could be acquired for a reasonable price, Dallas loves getting rid of good players, and he could bring a close-to-kimmo level of offense and help balance our D between hitters and scorers. |

Im with you on this. Holmgren should be out on his ass if he does nothing to help that blueline this summer, more than some depth guys.
He failed to make any moves when Pronger went down other than Grossman. To try and bridge the gap at the very least, or bring in a young kid for cheaper to start growing with the team.
Timonen remains but that window will soon close as well. Holmgren better not stand pat. I dont expect him to. There are pieces that can be moved for help in a crucial area of need. |

I don't get the feeling that he doesn't want to stay in Philly. With the way the team played this Season, especially defensively. There are very few Goalies in the League who could be the solution. He pretty much had to try and stand on his head game in and game out to keep the team in the game. They were that bad. I said it many times during the Season. He's not Hasek. But play solid team defense in front of him, and I believe he can play at a high level.

Gologoski is a nice offensive defenseman.

They gave up 3 1st rounders (including Sbisa) & Lupul up for Pronger who was 34 at the time now what are you thinking it will cost for somebody who is a top pair d-man who is roughly 10 years younger?
And it thinking of this price think of how much it will hurt the team now & long term with having nothing in the system (which we are already at) & in the future with all the picks you'd be moving. |

Won't happen, it's a tough market to trade for and when somebody has one even a step lower than a top pair won't make it cheap knowing they have something you want and want badly. |

All Carle does is turn the puck over. This year he was on pace for almost 38 points in an 82 game schedule, which isn't bad at all, but is it worth the turnovers when there are many more guys out there who can produce equally or only slightly lesser and not be such a painful liability on defense? - JAKEw1234
Carle's actually a pretty solid defenseman. Turnovers can be an issue with him, but high turnover numbers plague a lot of defensemen that play the puck a lot.
Here's a partial list of defensemen that had more giveaways than Matt Carle this year:
Dion Phaneuf, Andrei Markov, Dustin Byfuglien, Travis Hamonic, Dan Boyle, Jeff Petry, PK Subban, Victor Hedman, John Carlson, Brent Seabrook, Slava Voynov, Mark Streit, Drew Doughty, Shea Weber, Francois Beauchemin and Ryan Whitney |
