That's a pretty solid lineup of forwards. Who would you remove to add Schenn? - jmatchett383
If BSchenn were on that team, he'd be a healthy scratch. |

Because he's been a solid, second pair defenseman for 5 years or so now.
Yes, he does have moments of inconsistency, but overall he's been a very solid and capable player for the Flyers. He probably should be getting more out of his physical tools than he does, but he's still solid.
Also, he's probably paid at a very fair price for what he brings. - Jsaquella
I think you are right. Dmen can look really bad when they are asked to play above their pay grade. A great #3 or #4 can look pretty weak if asked to step up and play as a #1 or #2.
Watching the Senators/Bruins last night and Karlsson was okay for his third game back. But the guys who really looked solid were Methot, Cowen and Gonchar who have all been able to up their game with the cover that the kid provides.
Same thinking needs to be applied to Flyer Dmen. They are okay doing what they are able to do. But, some of them will get in trouble when asked to take on roles beyond their actual skill set. Get a top #1 and everybody else's game improves, including forwards and especially Giroux. |

I know this was posted yesterday but :
First off, I don't think Bryz would've gone at all without being promised the #1 job. Secondly, if he were to get pulled in favor of Bob during the tournament I'm pretty sure he would boycott the media next year (if he doesn't already plan on doing that). - Flyers_01

Lots to be optimistic about.
They showed what can happen if they play team defense.
They picked up a back up goalie who can actually play.
The sophomore slump for a couple of key centers will be over, but they are "still kids playing in a mens league" (great quote Homer).
Hartnell should have a great bounce back season.
They will be getting a very good prospect in the draft.
A full off season to heal and get ready.
Gusty and maybe Lauridsen showing they can play in the NHL, at least in call up roles and maybe more.
Homer showing patience with the kids. - Marc D
Agreed, I still think those who are upset about everyone's play should recognize that we are basing this all on about a half a year's games. Unfortunately we showed the poorer part of a full year's games.

I agree. Looking at the roles they were asked to play, it's a recipe for disaster. I wonder if Laviolette had just started the year with his "simple" system that was adopted after the injuries decimated the blue line, how much better this team could have been.
I just hope that next season, it doesn't take being down 4 defensemen to get the coach to adjust. |

Not even close. Not a big fan. He makes big plays on offense and defense. But he is just not consistant enough. |

Who do you bump to take him? He'd be the 13th forward on that group. - Jsaquella
ok so Read makes the team but not B Schenn...
so why does everyone want to trade Read for a dman?
yes, i know...schenn is younger (by two years) and has a lot more potential...
but i think you can get a lot more return by trading B Schenn than Read...
(just tryign to be devil's advocate here) |

I'd definitely be open to trading BSchenn for a defenseman while keeping Read, but it really depends on the specifics of said deal. |

Read's a 26 year old, with a 20+ goal season on his resume(and probably would have had 2 had this year not been 48 games), who is a good two way forward and who was a near elite level PK guy this season.
Brayden Schenn is 5 years younger than Read. You probably could get more for him than Read. But right now, Read is the better player. |

I'm counting on Gustafsson to be in the top 6, but I want to add another capable, mobile guy with some puck skills. - Jsaquella
I think the spot is Gus's to lose. I'd like for him to play a little more with Kimmo next year. I know it makes them a smaller pair but the learning curve that seems to happen with talented young D & Kimmo is usually really good. (Coburn, Schenn, Gus) |

i'm a HUGE fan of B. Schenn (probably becuase he remidns me a lot of Richards)
i think Read is a fanstastic player to have, but i think it's going to be extremely tough to re-sign him...
Because of that reason, i think he's gonna get traded for a defenceman... |

Posted this in the last blob.. so I will post it again here.
People who think picking 1st (and drafting a slam dunk d-man) should really take a gander...
Barry Gibbs, Rick Pagnutti, Denis Potvin, Greg Joly, Rick Green, Rob Ramage, Gord Kluzak, Roman Hamrlik, Ed Jovanovski, Bryan Berard, Chris Phillips, Erik Johnson.
all 1st overall picks... same amount of hall of famers as guys who never played an NHL game
Having the number 1 pick and choosing a d-man is the furthest thing from a lock. |
