He's 21. One of the things inherent in such a young player is physical inferiority to the veterans in the league. That can manifest itself in being pushed around by bigger, stronger players. Schenn has proven can be dominant against competition closer to his age bracket, but not yet in the NHL against "men". The margin of difference should close over the next few years as he reaches peak physical maturity and development. That's when we'll know what we really have in B. Schenn imo. - exlund
Just want to say this, since you didn't directly do so. Not saying your post wasn't rock solid, because it was- but just as a bit of reinforcement I'll say the following:
This season was Schenn's first full season with the big boys, if I'm correct.

Yeah, I don't see anyone saying that they'd be really upset about getting bought out...maybe Briere since he's got the family custody issue. - Jsaquella

it really is a win win scenario for each guy in terms of money but I believe hockey players in general have a substantial amount of desire for the glory.

Interesting to see if Tampa would be willing to trade down since they will probably be targeting a dman. - FrankDrebbin

IMO, if not for the wrist injury this season, Pulock would have been the consensus top D after Jones. Still had a good year on a bad team. Tied for team scoring lead despite missing 11 games. He's not bad defensively. Skates well. Not especially physical, but that's OK. - bmeltzer
With the run on D last year I have my doubts he will be available but if he is I would be very happy with that selection. I have seen him from 8th-18th. I love picking players that have slide due to injury (or mono!). Leadership, plays both sides of the puck, not overly physical but has #1 D PP potential. 2-3 years out so not an immediate help but could be vital when he is.
On the Bryz stuff. I am sick of hearing about it. Let him play one more season and then buy him out (pretty much no matter what unless he is phenomenal) and only due to Homers terrible contract- aka not really Bryz's fault.

The Briere family deal is a bit played imo publicly, the guy was playing in Germany at start of season and had there been a lockout would have all season. And listening to a bite from a interview earlier he was asked if he would waive his NTC and his response was "they havent approached me to". So that would tell me he isnt necessarily against being traded.

if he would waive the ntc that would be huge for this team and open up possibilities. If so I think Homer would have to take a long hard look at who is a candidate for amnesty.
