I'm still torn on which approach to take on the defense. I think that Coburn and Timonen will be solid next year, and if Meszaros can stay healthy, he'd be more valuable to the Flyers on the ice than simply dumping him to get salary relief.
They still will need at least one, good mobile top four guy to plug in. But that should be doable. I'd just really prefer seeing them be smart, rather than swing for the fences. They can be in good shape by hitting a double. No massive need to swing from the heels for the home run now - Jsaquella
As soon as the Flyers signed Rusty and Bruno, I knew right away we weren't a playoff contender. A desperate signing with Knuble didn't further my confidence. The Gagne deal grabbed my interest in the team again but the more I saw him on the 3rd line, the more I knew thing weren't gonna change for the season's team. At the risk of sounding like John Stevens, I saw a lot of good things. However, we only need to add, rather then subtract. We need a game breaker.
I will own up to my comments about Voracek. He was great this season but still not the game breaker Rick Nash could have been if we were willing to pay the price.
Not that Iginla is the answer but what are the chances the Pens can keep him? |

yikes....that's not good...cant be good in the kid's confidence either...
especially all that he's done for canada in WJC... - sarmen25
Ummm who'd you take out for him lol?
They need certain type of players, and quite frankly certain amount of righties and lefties
Schenn would 100% be the 13th FW in that group.
If that ruins his confidence then he shouldnt be playing in the NHL
PA Parenteau, who has proven a lot more past 3 years than Schenn has didnt make that FW core |

I haven't really paid much attention to all the other teams but I will guess the Rangers and Hawks. Hawks win it and become the new Red Wings for the next ten years.... |

Even if the Flyers were able to land a key free agent, they still would have likely singed Fedetneko and Gervais as veteran role players. I wouldn't put a teams Cup chances on those types of players. And Knuble was signed due to injuries, as a fill in player. Not as a player that would boost a team's Cup chances. |

I would definitely like to see an Original 6 Stanley Cup final.
It would be best if the Rangers were not involved.
That's why I went with Chicago and Montreal. I would also be on board with Toronto and Detroit. |

If Scottie Hartnell doesn't break his foot, Mike Knuble is not on this hockey team. |

Dont be surprised if Flyers try an RFA offer sheet to StL' Pietrangelo this summer. After last summer, they MUST fix the defense

The Flyers still had enough talent to be a playoff team. Fedotenko as a 4th liner and Gervais as a 7th defenseman were depth signings. Knuble was a desperation grab
My guess is that the asking prices for difference makers was too high, which is why we saw Knuble and Gagne, rather than a top four defenseman.
Voracek outscored Nash this past season, not that Nash wouldn't have been a huge addition, and probably would have put up better numbers playing with Giroux than he did in NY.
That said, Voracek is younger and cheaper than Nash. |

maybe its time he gets a new right hand man and replace the chief - Crimsoninja
Perhaps (and the Caps almost made this happen before hiring Adam Oates), but I would say Lavi's right-hand man is and has been Kevin McCarthy. |

The Stanley Cup bears the name of Jeff Carter. A guy who basically refused to play the position on the Flyers (wing) that he played this year for the Kings and was voted Team MVP for doing so.
This all leads me to believe that the hockey gods hate us.
So anything JvR does in the playoffs (and he'll probably be their best player, book it), won't surprise me. I liked JvR; I don't think he did anything inherently wrong here, other than get hurt at crappy times. |
