NHL system is a joke. The worst team should always get the first pick. How else will teams like Florida get out of the cellar. It's not fair at all. Congrats on the other hand. jones will look good there.
Do you guys think its a sure thing it's Jones? - BallardHitsHard22
the system is designed to stop teams from purposely tanking to last place to stock up 1st overalls |

I really hope they would return to the original jerseys at some points. - Dekker
If they pick a Coach with hype, draft jones, move sakic into the spot light as more of GM, it would be the time to reintroduce them, would be a lot of fans ready for season opener |

It's obviously going to be in Vegas!
I'm so happy! If Jones hadn't grown up in Denver then I wouldn't have been so obsessed with getting him, couple that with our need on defense it's a great story, probably a rigged story, but a great one anyway!
I actually hate out jersey too, the apron stripes anyway the colors are fine. - Avs-Ice
Breaking news!!!
Seth Jones just blew out his ACL/MCL at practice today!

I'm guessing EJ just became trade bait. If Avs select Jones, means they believe he will be a #1 D. Either they just plan on EJ being second pairing down the road, or trade him asap while he is still thought to have potential.
Thoughts on a Yandle for EJ swap? Seems like it would benefit both teams, though I'm guessing Phoenix would want some value added. Would balance out both teams top pairings for years, and give Seth Jones a young veteran partner from the start of his career. - Antilles
EJ just had his worst year ever. I see no reason why the avs would trade him currently. Having 2 #1 overall Defensemen on your first pairing is never bad. Also EJ is signed to an awesome contract. EJ is still a great player who finally has a partner now. They could be our Keith/seabrook, weber/sutter type of deal.
EJ is still 2 years younger than Yandle and I feel Pho could get a better deal from a different team

i was almost rooting against colorado just because i wanted to see you guys draft drouin. him on duchene's wing would be unreal. your top 6 would've been:
Stasny - Duchene - Drouin
Landeskog - O'Reilly - Paranteau |

Thats why we would have been ok drafting 2nd, that gave us hope as well, but Seth is a player that we desperately need.
Also I was just checking out your team going forward, are you guys going to have to shed a bit of salary to sign all your RFAs? Or pretty optimistic you can get it all done this year? |

Keith is left handed, Seabrook right.
Suter is left handed, Weber right.
EJ & Jones are both right handed, neither plays the left. One of the reasons the Blues traded him, we have right handed Petro, EJ doesn't work well as partner for a RHD. |

Drew Doughty was #2
Alex Pietrangelo was #4
Both so far looking just as good as advertised. Not saying you're wrong, just saying there are more recent picks than Pronger that are turning out as planned. - Antilles
Maybe -a little early to say with those 2 though. Berard, j Bo, and others
Started strong and never really got there.
Compared with sure thing forwards, the high pick D men
Seem to disappoint for whatever reason.

I think Sakic would be better in Lacroix's job as team President than the GM, don't you?
Either way the Avs have actually made all the right moves so far. If they hire a coach from outside the Organization like Ruff or go with Roy or Gwoz I think this season will be quickly forgiven and forgotten. I am already pumped |

This is why I, eventually, see Siemens and Jones as a pairing. L-R, bruiser-positional, Gritty-skater. It sounds like a good fit for the two. |

Seimens is Left. Either way EJ is a very solid top 4 Dman and its not like the Avs need to be bringing in more solid D, not trading the only good Dman we had all season lol. |

Yeah, they could look good together. But it still brings me back to my original thought... trade EJ now, or just plan on him being a second pairing guy down the road. |

I think you hold onto him. A fringe first pairing Dman, signed to a long term reasonable cap hit contract, thats a good asset going forward. Couple years his stock can really improve, still being under contract and could be a very valuable asset in a deadline scenario |

I wouldn't trade him now. I'd wait until the market bears appropriate fruit like it does at the draft (sometimes) and at the deadline (look at what Bouwmeester got). I'm not against keeping him nor am I totally for trading him but for the right deal, I can be persuaded to move him. |

Go ahead and draft Drouin.......he'll look good in a Nords uniform, in a couple of years. |

Id def keep EJ for the top 4 pairing. You have no idea what Barrie and Elliot are gonna do. EJ is still a solid Dman. Keep him and get him a puck moving partner IMO. |

im sure u woulda like to have the opportunity to take jones, but i actually think this works out well for both fla and the avs.
your defence is better than colorados (who is probably the worst in the game along with edm) and another star forward might actually be more of a need for you guys.
any of mackinnon, drouin or barkov is gonna be fantastic for you guys. |

Ah, I was thinking the no trade period went till after the finals, meaning him being put on the trade block would basically mean him being traded at the draft this year, but I should have specified. I agree with what you are saying, see what the market for him is and you have no NEED to trade him unless its a good deal. I just picture Colorado getting better value for him now (over the off season, not immediately), selling on his potential, then they will in a year or two.
Really, just my opinion of value. His value is of a second pairing defensemen on the ice (if they are really sold on Jones) but of a fringe first pairing defenseman on the trading block. But I see the logic in keeping him too. |

brilliant post. we should keep those teams down forever. not only that, but lets reward the best teams that already happen to have the best players, with more of the best young up and coming players |
