brilliant post. we should keep those teams down forever. not only that, but lets reward the best teams that already happen to have the best players, more of the best young up and coming players - hugefemale dog77
Or just make it random between the bottom 14 teams so teams don't tank on purpose like the Oilers. |

Lucky for me being where I live, I've gotten to see Seth Jones play about 20 times this last season (and still again some more playoffs to go!)
He's an absolute beast, and looks very very much a man among boys playing in the WHL. He's pretty much ready to play in the show. Scary part is, he'll probably still put on another 15 to 20lb on that frame of his.
With the first overall pick Colorado BETTER GOD DAMN selects: Seth Jones, Portland Winterhawks - WHL Champions. |

I think they should have a weighted system similar to this one but to determine the overall draft order. So any of the bottom teams could draft anywhere, however the lower the team the higher chance they have of picking earlier. I.e. 30th place has 25% of the balls, 29th has 18.8% and they just start drawing picks from 1st overall on down.
That way if a good team like lets say the kings last year miss the playoffs they could still draft earlier but wouldn't have the same shot as columbus to get the 1st overall. Keeps parity some what in check while reducing the losing mentality |

the weighted system is by far the best possible system.
it still attempts to discourage tanking while still giving the worst teams the best opportunity to get the the much needed best prospects.
wouldnt that be great if a team like the rangers who stumbled hard outta the gates, but have a silly amount of talent, had just missed the playoffs and then won the lottery?
dont think ud be too stoked in that case either.
and you dont think the oilers were just THAT bad when that happened? do u watch much hockey? |

Most sports do it this way. Its so you can't purposely suck in a year where Crosby or Connor Mcdavid will be drafted.
Also its not like the Panthers are really the worst team in the league, thats Calgary lmao. You guys just had injuries. - Meeqsb
Yeah right Calgary is the worst team in the league. They are still better than Colorado. Even without Iginla Bouwmeester and Kipper we'll still finish ahead of Colorado. |

We have Duchene, Landeskog, possibly Jones and a NHL quality goalie.
The flames have a bunch of players that you could trade a 4th for. The flames at least could have gotten Mckinnon, but you guys decide to win every year once they are eliminated.
Your team has nothing, your GM is a joke and you are going to be bad for the next 8-9 years.
So yeah be real proud how you finished 13th in the conference. You're pathetic. |

You're team is getting a loosing culture and that will persist no matter how much talent you get. Have fun drafting in the top 5 every year. The Avs sure are smart for tanking. Sherman is an idiot GM he gave up a first round pick for a goalie who the caps were getting rid of anyway. It's pretty easy to get a goalie of Varlamov's caliber. The Flames picked one up off waivers. |

So your promoting to fail once your eliminated. Teach your players the losing way? You cant hate on the Flames for doing better with a lesser team? Is your future bright. Hell yes it is. Do you have wicked young talent. Hell yes you do. But atleast the Flames continue to play hard. They sure as hell could of just told theyre players. You know what. Dont bother. We need a number one overall pick. But instead they chose to keep at it. That say something about that team you say they could only get 4th rounders for. |

If it was just this year I'd say good for them. Calgary has finished in like 9th for the past few years and its killing their prospect depth. They need to rebuild and all those end of the year wins only mean they are slowing down the process.
I am not knocking winning, but only starting to win once the games dont mean anything anymore year after year is telling.
No team in the NHL tries to lose, but its just counter productive.
Also MGMT that refused to admit their team needed to rebuild for 3-4 straight years has set them back even further.
I feel awful for the fans because I don't think I could think of any way it could be any worse |

But damn near making the playoffs and or making them says otherwise. I understand wanting to hate on a team. Thats all fun and games. But based on what you said earlier. You said they should just fold and lose the rest of the games once theyre eliminated |

The goal is to win a cup. Calgary fans deserve a well built team that can contend not centuries of sub par mediocrity. When the Flames where in the Finals it was one of the best atmospheres I have ever seen from a city.
Their MGMT are making the worst possible choices and "feel good" wins are empty wins. I feel awful for their fans because I stand by the statement that the Flames are the joke of the NHL.
Its only going to get worse in their new conference. |

They could have gotten the world for him if the would have traded him 3 years ago, but instead they got a very low 1st and 2 prospects who are fringe NHL at best. |

Anyone who thinks the Flames have a brighter future than the AVS are crazy.
O'reily, Duchene, Landeskog, Jones, and Varlamov will all be hitting their prime in 3-4 years and will be a very solid core.
I would take that over anything Calgary has...
How could anyone even argue that???? |
|
|
|
Thats why we would have been ok drafting 2nd, that gave us hope as well, but Seth is a player that we desperately need.
Also I was just checking out your team going forward, are you guys going to have to shed a bit of salary to sign all your RFAs? Or pretty optimistic you can get it all done this year? - DDM-Coga
trading away gabby, we should be fine this summer.
the wildcard is clowe who's apparently seeking a deal upwards of 4 mil AAV but he hasn't exactly shown he's worth anything close to that as of yet. |

No one is arguing that. But if your not a cup finals teams you dont just fail for the top draft pick because your not a cup final team. This guy is redic. Colorado has way better players and prospects for sure. But because your not in the finals or winning the cup doesnt mean that your supposed to be a lottery team. |

I think the biggest problem was not resigning Prust. One of the biggest strengths NYR had last year was one of the leagues best bottom 6s and Prust is one of the best players in the league at that role. I was shocked you let him go. |
