It's not the NFL. If there's a specific guy at 11 they want, and figure he'll be gone at 14, they might be willing to pay a premium. Plus they have 3 picks in the first round. - Jsaquella
Maybe the old bj GM would draft like that. I hope for fans of bjs everywhere that their new one wouldnt do that |

Agreed. I've been doing some more research on this beast...seems like his ceiling could be the next Chara/Pronger type in time. He's 6'7" (added a couple inches this season), plays a stiff physical game and just tapping into his potential offensively. I'm sure the Flyers love his size. He seems to have a very good attitude as well. I'm updating my current list of players that could possibly be available at the 11 spot in order of preference:
Nurse (not likely, but)
Pulock
Zadorov
Lindholm
Monahan
Ristolainen - exlund
Ugggggghhhh. Fine let's draft him Pronger can work with him and lauridsen for the remainder of his contract |

It might take an additional sweetener. I'd be willing to add a pick or prospect, but it's not an especially awful trade, if you're moving up to land a guy you really want.
The picks of LA and NYR are likely to be mid 20's anyhow, it's not like giving up 14 and 16 to get to 11. |

Two of them have Gauthier in the top-10... if anybody were to reach and take the kid that high, it would be the Flyers, not the Stars. - Tomahawk
Yeah, I noticed Gauthier making a big climb...and I agree he is the kind of guy that the Flyers would reach for. |

Btw, here's aggregated prospects rankings:

going by this - would you rather have Hunter Shinkaruk at 8, where the flyers could have finished, or Ristolainen, at #11. some around here like Pulock. i have never watched any of these guys and have zero opinion/clue about any of them. |

Shinkaruk is a guy that is immensely skilled, but also has some scouts saying he can be negated by physical play and rough going. But if that is not the case, he'd be a steal at 11.
Pulock and Ristolainen have only been playing defense for a few years each, so there's a growth curve. I like Pulock because he's smart, has a booming shot and is a good all around player. Ristolainen is a good player, as well.

To entice Kekäläinen, who's area of expertise is amateur scouting, into moving any of his 1st-rounders, let alone multiples, would be tough.
Feaster seems much more amenable to moving picks for immediate help... he expressed a need to get bigger and tougher up front... the Flyers have some of that to give. |

If you're going to reach that much then trade down please. And why are folks seriously interested in Domi at 11th? He is going to be a great 3rd line pest or borderline 2nd line player someday. 5.10. |

Domi has a lot of skill, which is why he is rising. But he has two knocks-the size and the diabetes. |

Question. The Flyers are always trying to get the best player available but my question is, do they? Could Scott Laughton have been drafted later in the first or possibly in the second? I also ask, if the Flyers choose to trade up, is it because they have a player in mind? Personally I hope they go after D. I also feel that player will play if they have a decent camp. It just depends if they get beyond five games...unless the new collective bargaining agreement has changed it this rule. |

They draft the player that they have rated as the best. Laughton could have been drafted later, but he was the top player on their board at the time. They did the same in drafting Downie.
If they do trade up it would likely be for a specific player.
The five game rule was only for the short season. It will return to the 9 game rule next season. If they draft a kid like Nurse and keep him because he had a good camp, they're morons |

Yes, they always select who they feel is the best player. What other reason would there be to trade up then targeting a specific player still on the board?
It was 5 games due to the shortened Season. It will be 9 games for a full Season.

What is it about ristolanen that makes people doubt he could develop into a top pairing guy? I've seen comments like that about him that he projects as a 2nd pairing guy but a good one at that |

Couturier, Sbisa, Laughton... they've got a pretty disturbing trend going of not giving a fk when it comes to handling prospects with any kind of patience/prudence.
Whomever they draft this year is going to get every chance (and more) to make the team immediately... if they have even a decent camp... watch out.

Offensive upside is in question, defensive aptitude is a question, only been playing D since the age of 12 is a question. |

The comments about Pulock are the same. Ristolainen is a good skater already and has a solid all around game. One could ask the same question about Nurse. So far, he's largely gotten by because he's been bigger, stronger, faster and meaner than everyone else. |

Laughton was sent back to Juniors after getting a 5 game look see. How did they not show patience with Laughton? And it's clear that they didn't make a mistake keeping Couturier on the team.

True, very true. I was livid when they were using Sbisa at wing during his extended stay. |
