I'm more interested on the rule than the that example. Gotcha. Thanks - KINGKENZO
The rule is simple. Once a Junior eligible player plays a 10th game in an NHL Season. It counts as a year on his ELC. Even if he is sent down to Juniors after the 10th game.

'I think for some guys, as to whether or not they are able to step into the NHL right away, the opinion is pretty subjective. Until you drop the kid into the game and see, it's mostly just educated speculation. I don't mind the Flyers taking an objective evaluation during camp, preseason and the 9 game look or whatever the case may be...if the kid looks like he belongs, he sticks, if he looks out of place and struggling, send him back for more seasoning. The key is, if he does stick, is being patient, not burdening the kid with too much responsibility and pressure right off the bat. Break him in steady as she goes, ramping up icetime slowly, over time, as he earns/deserves it. - exlund
appalling lack of video links in this post...
but other than that I agree. i think the handling of Sbisa and (going way back) Zubrus makes a lot of people think that the Flyers lack the patience required to develop younger players in the NHL. However, I think they've more or less done a good job with Couturier, and I think they also made the right call to send Laughton back to juniors this year too. So hopefully these two things are a sign that they are learning to handle these young kids more like you suggest, and less like they have in the past.

Gotcha. Wasn't sure if it was 9 total or 9 per year

Agreed. The thing is, the Flyers have a habit of turning a good camp into an early debut. Luca Sbisa is probably the best example of this. He played solidly for the first 10-15 games, then struggled a bit after that. There was really no reason to keep him past 9 games.
Even if they land Nurse, he's not going to be hurt if they simply send him back to junior, regardless of how solid he looks in camp.

I'd like to see whoever the draft, hopefully a d-man, not reach NHL ice for a while.
It was really stupid to see Sbisa playing 4th line wing.

In my opinion, the deal with Laughton this past Season was that there was really no pre Season. So they used the 5 games to get a look at him in NHL games. You really have to be sure about keeping a Junior player.
Where are you getting this information from? - MJL
I actually rmember reading an article from NHL.com (I think last season) about it. It was a pretty big deal over the summer. I googled it to try to find the website I originally read it from and here are a few reports on it. Could've just been trade rumours as most things are: http://www.philly.com/phi...-Ryan-be-coming-home.html

I agree on Laughton. I'd just like to see a bit more conservative approach. Some guys are capable, others aren't...

St Louis needs to get more goals out of this kind of pressure. - Jsaquella
Here's how I see it. It's one thing if a player like Pronger at 35 is being made available for the right price. And still look at what that cost.
But if you want a top veteran defenseman in his prime from another team. Be prepared for the price to be a top player from your team. That means Giroux or Voracek to start with.
If you want a top young developing defenseman from another team. Be prepared to pay with one of your top young developing players. That means Couturier or B Schenn to start with.
There's always a chance that a GM goes wacko and makes a bad deal, and you can steal a player. But it doesn't happen often. And I wouldn't be holding my breath. - MJL
Ok as valuable as Pronger was to the team, we still over payed for him. There are ways to aquire elite talent without giving elite talent in return... You're right, that includes with up and coming talent, and I don't doubt for a second that schenn or couturier, if not both, would need to be involved. What I'm saying is, even though Coburns and Mezes stocks aren't at their highest, they're still tradable pieces at this point. If they had 1 more bad season, probably not. But right now many teams could still just consider this a down season due to injury. I was saying that if they don't turn around their games next year, ya there'll be trouble in river city. Right now though, atleast decently tradable. When you put enough pieces together teams might eventually do it. We can get elite talent without giving ours, we just have to put more pieces in to equal the value of elite talent.

and to make it easier on you, quotes from B Ryan quoted in one of those articles:
“I take things personally,” Ryan said. “Anaheim to me has been a team over the past year that really has shown me nothing to prove that they want me here, unfortunately. Obviously, it's not the ideal situation. When you get drafted, you want to win championships with that team and every time they look to add a piece to the puzzle, I'm the piece going the other way.
“I gotta be honest with you. At this point, I don't care. Move me ... because it's just tough going to the rink every day knowing that if something goes wrong, you're going to be the guy moved.”
“For me, if I'm moved, Philadelphia would be a very ideal and comfortable place for me.”

Which depletes the depth of the team. That's the thing, the Flyers farm system is pretty shallow right now, and trading more assets away for one piece, strains that system even more.
I doubt that Meszaros has any value, except as a salary dump.
