Pittsburgh is clearly better then the Isles. Reimer has not had a good game for Toronto.

Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if Hamilton ended up being the best player taken from that entire draft. Niedermeyer in a Pronger body, really hard-working, honest kid, scholar-athlete, Olympic pedigree, what's not to like.

The fact that he's more or less on par with Couturier right now in terms of development despite being a defenseman is pretty impressive in and of itself.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Hamilton. I;m just not willing to add two 1st rd picks with Couts to get him.

I just think the Flyers need a solid #1 or future #1 defense man. With the philosophy that the Flyers carry of always taking the best player available at a draft, and not drafting by position, and with elite defenseman often going unnoticed in the first round, I don't know how many years it will be before the flyers will self draft a 1st tier player like that.

Buff? I'd rather have the D the way it is now than give up assets for a guy like that.
- DocEmrickVocab

Yeah, consistently 50+ points a season from the blueline, more points over the past three seasons than any other D man not named Karlsson..yeah, who needs that!?

And it begs the question, how "lazy" or uncomitted etc., can you be if you're putting up those kind of numbers consistently?

If you can get a guy like him for a discounted price because he's out of favor or whatever, I think you do it. Dreams of Bogosian, Pietrangelo, Leddy, Shattenkirk and other players tightly held by their clubs are probably not going to happen. Beggars can't be choosers. You know the Flyers like his size. I don't get the strong resistance some have to the guy. He's got a cap hit lower than Carle and brings a lot of things the team needs. Haters tell me specifically why you don't want this player so bad?

Some extra picks would be nice. It's something I've mentioned a lot to get some more to add to the bare prospect pool.
- ob18

Since the team is young the mentality of trading picks to win now needs to stop. They've been given a gift to free up Briere's $6.5 million hit, but they use that freed up space wisely. The next 2-3 years are critical to the franchise.

He's lazy and fat and that sets a bad example. With those numbers why is he so at of favor?

Considering they've never drafted a guy like that...

If you're trading a huge pile of assets, it had better be for somebody proven. Otherwise, it's better and more smart to use the picks yourself.

Between Risto, Pulock, Morrissey, and Hagg, do you think it would be wise to trade down and for more 1st rounders, maybe from columbus? Do you think we would be able to get more players that are on the top of our list this way? EDIT: Or do you think most of the players we want would be gone by pick 18 and 24 or whatever it was.
- JAKEw1234

Solid chance Ristolienen comes off the board in the top 12. Morrissey and Hagg should be there in the mid to late teens. Pulock is my guy though and I dont think he makes it past 14.

I would take Pulock at 11 and if Hagg or Morrissey or someone similar falls to the 20's I try my best to move up with the 2nd rounder and nab one of them.

And he plays reckless undisciplined Hockey. He's good offensively, but he's not a very good defenseman overall. Byfuglien is exactly the type of player the Flyers should avoid. I don't care how cheaply he'd come. Zero interest.

In a word, he's undisciplined -- with nutrition, with fitness, with positioning, with playing outside of the system, with penalties, everything.

Like Hartnell, despite all that, he can still be a heck of a player. But for a team that's already had problems with discipline and consistency in all facets on and off the ice, is Byfuglien the kind of guy you want to throw into the mix?

Snyder is an issue. In the non cap era his checkbook fixed a lot of problems that you just can't fix as easily with the cap. He could sign 5 or 6 FA's and deal them at the deadline for picks. Not so easy now.

Craig Button did a mock draft for TSN. He has the Flyers going off the board to take Samuel Morin -- with Ristolainen, Pulock, Morrissey and Hägg still available. Considering that most projections have Morin going in the second round (perhaps even where the Flyers would pick at number 41), that would be a shocker.

What is your feeling on why Button thinks the Flyers would go so far off the board?

He has the Oilers taking a Center over D. That's where I stopped reading.

The Flyers were scouting Hagg during the World Juniors; I don't think they move back in the 1st round, but if they do, he would be an interesting choice (and a solid pick if they can add another draft selection).

And even if he is uncommitted, imagine what he could potentially do if the flyers found a way to turn around his work ethic

It's Craig Button... he had Dumba going #2 overall last year, Matt Finn and Malcolm Subban in the top-10, Ryan Murray at #13, Grigorenko dropping to #20... is it any wonder why he's not a GM anymore?

To his credit, he did call Jankowski going in the 1st-round, but he had him all the way up at 14.

I'll say it now and likely again I'd stay at #41 and seriously consider Eric Comrie (Tri-City) or Tristan Jarry (Edmonton) giving them another goalie prospect.

Often compared to Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara due to the size parallels, Morin is difficult to beat down low and brings a presence to the ice that really makes an impact on opposing forwards. That’s not to say the 17-year-old is going to step into the NHL next year. Morin still has a lot of room for improvement with his skating and at this point, he may not even be done growing. Having already sprouted up 2 inches during his rookie season last year, Morin projects as more of a long-term project, perfect for a team after the 1st round who can afford to be patient with what is sure to be a long development curve.
