If its his size that they are looking for, why not just go for Zadorov or one of he other big d prospects that are ranked much higher.

Maybe they're looking at him in the 2nd round? I know they went off the board last year with Laughton but you don't take this kid at 11.And I hope they dont trade back. Take the best D man at 11 and be happy with what you got. |

Then again, even though the Flyers need more defensive prospects, because of their draft policy I have to ask, what makes everyone so sure they'll even draft a defense man? |

I can't wait for a repeat of last summer's never-ending Maata rants when they go for a forward @11.

If they draft a forward they'd better be announcing a trade at the same time. |

You are correct. The best player available scenario is definitely in play. |

It depends on how the cards fall. They'll take the BPA at 11, regardless of position. |

They need prospects period not just a specific position. Our system depth is not exactly deep. It's likely focused on a d-man because the last one we can say we develop now helps call games on the radio & it's been a real sore spot. |

Because I don't want to give up Couturier or Schenn to get him. - GirouxForTheShow
I know everybody is married to these kids...and I don't want to see them go either. But would you rather have a great set of forwards and a weak, unproductive D or would you consider moving a piece to create more balance? The Flyers have done a very good job of assembling a talented group of young forwards. The same can't be said about the D, which, at this point is a patchwork of broken players who are questionable going into next season and callups who are a long way from being top 4 guys. This is all led by a guy (all due respect to Timo, the ultimate warrior) who is breaking down and on the edge of retirement. At some point, if the Flyers plan on contending in the coming few years, it seems they're going to have to trade some more of the assets up front to bring in D. This was already done with getting Schenn for JVR..,it was hard for some to take, but I think most would agree that it turned out well so far. Regarding Coots and Schenn, perhaps the team could find a way get the puck carrying producer they need without giving up those particular pieces. It couldn't hurt to kick the tires on these guys (including Buff's spare tire) and see what the market looks like for them. You'd be surprised what some guys can be had for in certain situations.
Would I trade Coots or Schenn for him? Push came to shove, all things considered, I probably would.

Hey, I'm with ya on that.
I was just mystified by all the Maatta love around here, fueled mostly by pre-draft rankings and immediate need. Laughton's been a lot more impressive thus far -- BAP is the way to go. |

Snyder is an issue. In the non cap era his checkbook fixed a lot of problems that you just can't fix as easily with the cap. He could sign 5 or 6 FA's and deal them at the deadline for picks. Not so easy now. - jstross
No doubt. He's getting more and more senial every year |

Well here's another question too. Many times, players who are selected top 10 don't live up to expectations. Does this have to do more with how a team develops him, is it of his own fault, or is it the fault of the teams scouts putting him so high on their list? Can a team "devote" more to developing a certain player, and hence make him better than possibly a prospect of equal potential who is developed differently? If we said that theoretically Schenn and Couturier had an identical potential, and the team "devoted" more to developing Schenn, would he end up being much better than Couturier in the end? |

Or possibly showing more patience in letting them develop (Pitkanen and Seidenberg). I'm not going to include Sbisa in my example because I had no problem with including him for Pronger. I see top 6 potential in the system right now, if just a little patience is administered. Not franchise, but important pieces to a good team with very good cap hits for years to come. |

Maatta is good and has continued his growth this season is a expanded role with London & may also very well turn out to be a solid player. I had wanted a D-man in the draft but I am not personally upset at all they took Laughton, I have my doubts that he was the BPA but if they felt strongly about him & didn't waiver on it.

He's lazy and fat and that sets a bad example.? - Just5
Can you back this up?
Sure, everyone knows fat, lazy players can be one of the top 2 scoring d men in the league for the past three years... I would submit that it's virtually impossible for someone who is consistently fat and lazy to perform as he does against the athletes he faces, for an 82 game season in the NHL. No f'ing way...
With those numbers why is he so at of favor? - Just5
You tell me?
Why was Jeff Carter out of favor, while still producing, why was Joni Pitkanen out of favor while putting up 40+ points? It happens. I think people need a scapegoat...they haven't won in WPG...last year it was Evander Kane...now it's Buff.
