The Flyers may have to settle for a Gardiner or Jamie McBain that fell out of favor or who ended up in the coach's doghouse. It's not awful, but it's a bit more risky than an established top 4 guy. - Jsaquella
Jake Gardiner is talked about quite positively outside of toronto. Think we could pull a Luke Schenn? He ws way out of favor there, too. And look what we did in one shortened season? |

Depends on how much say the coach has on personnel issues. In the case of Gardiner, it's probably not as much as falling out of favor as being surpassed. In a case like McBain, he got deep in the doghouse |

Only torts could have the shocked expression on his face with his hands out as if to say "what the (frank)" AS his team is about to go on a 5 on 3 |

Well I think Gardiner is regarded to have a very good potential, and the track record so far with toronto treating their young dmen well isn't so good... Plus him and Luke Schenn are almost made by design to play on a pair together. In the case of McBain, I want nothing to do with him. He has been so bad this season. His hockey IQ is around a -10 and his positioning is atrocious. I would say he probably shouldn't even be playing in the NHL... |

Interesting, Gus has played 60 games in his career and is 24. Plug him into the top 6 next year, let him play between 17-20 minutes and see what happens. Amazing they gave up on guys like Pitkanen and Seidenberg at roughly the same age. They need to learn from past behavior. |

And I think they have... It's torontos job to give up on young defensemen now |

The best move for Homer (which he has done in the past) is to acquire a young d-man who hasn't reached his potential. Also, he may have struggled with his last team before being traded to the Flyers, much like Luke Schenn and Matt Carle.
So with that in mind, I'm hoping Homer pursues:
-Rundblad
-Gardiner
-Leddy
-Cole
Having a d-man who can handle 20 minutes a game and add a very good first pass or actually lead the rush and play sound defensively would do wonders for this team next season. - ravishingone a read for Gardner? Listen a lot to 590 in Toronto... Carlyle won't play him.

I'm actually asking the toronto comment boards if they'd be happy with this moves as fans right now... I think the response is, maybe, but they already have alot of wingers, maybe with something like a 3rd or 3nd rounder added on they'd be happy. |

Add something else for us, Read has shown he can play & handle himself well in all situations and on multiple lines. |

Only reason I'm giving read is because of his contract situation. I don't think flyers can hold onto him |

I think Read's contract situation will depend a lot on what Brayden Schenn does. |

Because Toronto hates young players They did an almost identical thing to Luke Schenn. I think a Gardiner - Schenn pair could be devastating in a couple years. |
