i know this is probably not in line with the current convo, but i'd like to see schenn on the lw with giroux and jake next year. i think he's ready to take that next step

and then a 2nd line with hartnell and couturier (possibly read on the rw assuming no major additions)

obviously REALLY early to be thinking line combos, but that's a way they can both get plenty of ice time next year

- FlyerMike18

There's plenty of opportunity and available ice time, with a number of scenarios.

Ya but there's a difference between having a good 3rd line and having an overkill 3rd line and that's what it would be if Couturier was playing the 3rd line in his prime. Do you want to have an overkill 3rd line while our defense suffers from the gap left by Timonen? Or do you want an awesome 2nd line, a slightly above average 3rd line (assuming Rinaldo and Talbot are still playing there), and a killer 1st defensive pair after Timonens retirement. It'd be awesome to have an overkill 3rd line, but there are higher priorities that need to be addressed first, I believe.

I don't reccomend trading Couturier for anyone who isn't a top pairing defenseman, or isn't projected to be a top pairing defenseman playing decent NHL minutes now. Couturier is going to be a key part of this team being successful against the superstar forwards in our division, Crosby Malkin Nash Tavares...

Was it "overkill" with Jordan Staal playing on a 3rd line in Pittsburgh? There is no such thing. Couturier is a player that has Selke potential, as well as the potential to play on a scoring line and put up points. But I guess tonight's choice of Rielly is a sure bet to have a "killer" 1st defensive pair.
- MJL

Rielly has the potential to not only fill timonens hole on the powerplay but exceed the expectations of it. As soon as a player like Rielly is NHL proven, toronto won't be trading him... Ya it'll be a bit of a gamble, but so was trading JVR for Luke Schenn, and that's worked out alright for us this year.

Personally I'd like them to work Akesons ass off this offseason on improving his skating and upper-body strength and give him a shot at playing with G and Jake during preseason. He has the instant chemistry and the passing, finesse, ice vison, and shot to make it work. It's only the skating and strength that really gets him down.

His in carlyles dog house due to his poor defensive game
- Philly1980

I don't see how that justifies comparing the coach to a health and beauty product.

But couturier isn't even an established NHL forward yet
- JAKEw1234

Yes, he is -- unless you have some new-found definition of "established."

Moving Luke Schenn to LW just like San Jose moved Brent Burns to forward is stupid!!

It doesn't beg the question. That would be dodging the question, if one uses that idiom correctly.

Getting to what you mean (causes a further question), the dictionary tells me it means to set up, to make secure, or to place or settle in a secure position or condition; install.

I only said what I said for you to correct me on the idiom usage. And I agree with Dave, I don't understand. How is it dodging the question? You're disagreement with whomever about coots establishment as an NHL forward begs the question what is established, no? Unless you mean by dodging the question as you don't answer the original question (I.e. is coots established), yet cause a further question in what is established?

Frank.

Add on: but even still in order to answer original question, don't you need to have an understanding what established means, original question therefore begging the ladder in order to resolve? Or is this one of those funny language things that direct translations are as useful as an outlet underwater.

Trading two young established NHLers for one another is less of a risk than trading a cornerstone player, on a ELC, with a ton of potential for a kid who has yet to take a NHL shift.

You seem so ready to jump at any shadow and are way too eager to overpay for a lot of what ifs and guesstimates. A writer for Hockey's Future says Reilly was the best offensive defenseman in the 2012 draft, so immediately the Flyers should move Couturier for him?

Chemistry? After 1 game? I like your posts and I actually read them because they have some value but come'on.

You didn't get the TPS report....Couturier is cra# dude.

For real though, the problem I have with your idea of adding a slumping younger player (not saying I'm opposed) is that I don't know where that leaves Mez and Coburn. If you add a top guy then one is gone. If you don't what do you do with them? A gamble for a gamble pretty much, right?
