Think we can take Shatty to Arbitration. Meaning just need to get Petro signed, file for arbitration with Shatty and no offer sheets for him. - Antilles
Getting him signed would be much nicer than arbitration. Arbitration is almost an insult. Esp to a key player going forward. I just hope Philly dont force you guys into something stupid. |

Clearly sticks the Knee out. Lucky Schwartz isn't injured or it'd probably be a suspension. |

Holy Cow! That is blatant as can be! Not just that, but check out his right arm. Clearly trying to get the elbow to the head. Can't the league check this out and at least fine this cheap shot? I'm all for rough and tumble but this is so obvious he was trying to injure. I don't care what team you root for or against, this is a flagrant disregard for another player. Maximum fine at least or several game suspension at most. |

If you take Shattenkirk to arbitration and don't get a long-term deal done before the hearing, chances are he's going through and will take whatever award is handed down. At that point, you're back at this in 1 or 2 years (whichever term the player picks; I'd expect he'd take 1 with the cap moving up) - except that now, you can't take him back to arbitration.
That's what Nashville tried with Weber; they took him to arbitration, Weber filed for 1 year, and after that year he was RFA again - but now couldn't be protected from an offer sheet. |

Paul Holmgren is still patiently waiting. If anyone ever wants to see big steel testicles, Paul has got them. |

Considering how his construction of this year's team resulted in an 10th place showing in the East, Holmgren might want to worry more about developing guys from within than trying to show off how many ways he can find to lob stupid money out. |

Hmmm....is this team different that past years?...I'm beginning to think so.....Why?
Needs
1) Deal better with questionable officiating, because it happens. The Blues in the past would chirp way to much for my liking to the officials about calls which would then contribute to more calls against them. They also would often seem to let it turn the tide of the game and give up PPG. Well last night they definitely chirped the refs but they only gave up the 5 on 3 and won the game regardless of the officiating. Checkmark here.
2) Prove resolve because bad breaks happen....In game one they gave up the late goal, got a 4 minute penalty in OT and still won the game. In the past, it seems like it would have been a situation where all the air got let out of the balloon and we would find a way to lose. Here we found a way to win. Checkmark here.
3) Dictate play. The blues have done this for the most part in 4 of the 6 non-OT periods. Against a very good club like the Kings, I'd probably give them a checkmark here.
4) Find a way to score goals....While they have scored enough to win, I can't give a checkmark here. They still are missing too many good quality scoring chances. At least they are getting timely scoring but they are going to need to score more at some point in the playoffs.
5) Don't get too happy or full of yourself, this is a long grueling process. The first series is just an initial step and how big you win doesn't matter in the later rounds. The only thing that matter is you win because the first series is irrelevant to the second series. It's not the best winning percentages that matters in the playoffs. It's who gets to 16 wins.
I realize it is only two games but maybe, just maybe, this team has learned some things over the last couple of years. We can surely hope. |

Just out of curiosity, what stupid money was lobbed out? I think the Suter contract was legit, I think the Parise contract was a little stupid considering there was 0 chance he came here from the get-go, and Weber was a good OS, Nashville was beating around the bush and Homer just decided to bulldoze the lawn.
This team, outside of the major injuries, was not much different then the team last year who knocked the Pens out of the playoffs. I think if you're going to fault anyone in the organization for the 10th place finish, its Laviolette moreso than Homer. |
