For all those people saying offer sheet Pietrangelo (Not in this thread IK) id like to tell you this quote:
"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result"
Offer sheeting Pietra will end the same way as weber - FrmRusiaWifGlov
If Pietrangelo remains unsigned after the free agency frenzy and the flyers are in a position where they could offer sheet him, I don't see the harm. It shouldnt be something that is planned but if the right situation arises then I don't see the harm. |

I think the big cons against it are A)losing a week negotiation time in the offseason
B)Totally severing negotiation ties to St. Louis by pulling a Richard move like that C) encouraging other teams to give us a taste of our own medicine once Giroux, Brayden Schenn, and Coots are all RFAs after next season. |

Right... but there's just no way... it'd be almost as hard for us to get P.K as it would be to get Pietrangelo. |

How high can the price be for a player they've all but given up on? If they cared about his development anymore he'd be in the AHL not a healthy scratch for the whole season. - JAKEw1234
Gardiner just played in a playoff game for Toronto. One Season where he hasn't played a lot, doesn't mean they've given up on him. Since he is no longer Waiver expemt, to go to the AHL, Gardiner would have to clear waivers. And he would most certainly be claimed. That is why he hasn't been sent down.

Its not a d!ck move, the d!ck move is letting him get to rfa status. |

Correct, and I think with how down Toronto seems on him, we could get him for cheap. Maybe not for flat our Mez, as has been shot down by you guys, but for Mez and a few mid draft picks (maybe 2 3rds and 2 4ths) I think we could get him... Toronto has a pretty itching need for top 4 d men, which Mez will be starting next season. To trade your healthy scratch dman and get a top 4 dman and picks, I think they'd do it. - JAKEw1234
There is no way they'd do it. Not with the injuries that Meszaros has. And that he will be a UFA after the next Season. Toronto is not going to deal Gardiner for that.

I wouldn't that is uncalled for in any teams uniform, he went after a non-fighter and then was hitting him when he couldn't defend himself not that he could anyway but didn't even have a chance. - ob18
No Fighters left on the benches. Lol. |

I think he's gotta realize it's either be uprooted or retire. If he waives, he can keep his outrageous salary for at least another season. All depends on how much he wants to milk this thing. - JAKEw1234
His salary for the next two Seasons isn't outrageous. His Salary is 3M for next Season. And 2M for the Season after that.

MJL, under the new CBA (which I still don't believe is done), can the Flyers offer Gus a 10 % raise under the RFA rules to potentially retain him like the old CBA? |

It's more than he'd be getting to sign a new contract elsewhere. |

Hopefully we're going to sign Giroux, Coots, and Schenn to extensions but chances are we'll be dealing with their new contracts next offseason. |

They can retain his rights by making him a Qualifying offer. Which they most certainly will do. I believe based on his salary, it would be a 10% raise.

How do you know that. He can get 2/3rds of 5M in a buyout. Plus whatever a new deal is on top of that. You do not have the information to make that statement.

Thought so, is the team allowed to go over 10% over the cap during the offseason, but be cap compliant by opening night yet? Just curious, how limited with the cap going down the Flyers could be limited. |

Yes, I'm pretty sure that is still in effect. Also the bonus cushion is in effect for every Season under the new CBA

either way, Briere is a very classy person, I'm sure he'd waive his rights if he knows he's moving either way. And a tiny, 35 year old, inconsistent scorer isn't getting more than 3M in a new contract with another team, that's realistic if you want it. |

If he get's 3M from another team, plus his buyout money, that's more then he would get from not being bought out, isn't it?

One potential key difference: I don't know what the Blues' financial capabilities are, but the Flyers have the cash to make any legally structured contract happen, and are willing to spend it. |

Yea, we know that from the Weber OS. But as has been said previously. I think going to route with St' Louis would be a waste of time.

I agree, I'm thinking more in terms of Giroux, though. I think he'll be signed with time to spare. |
