I still think it's unlikely in the near future. If we were closer to being contenders I could see a 1 for 2 or 3 trade to add what we need, but the team is not in danger of anything like that right now. In a few years, when the prospect pool is deeper I could see it though. - Jeropotato
Understand that this was completely hypothetical, I'd call for MacT's head unless he got an offer he couldn't refuse for any one of the superkids anytime soon.
The proposal is to trade from a position of strength, which I assume to be one of the super kids (Hall, Ebs, Yak, RNH, JSch) for a lesser-skilled player + to fill a need (big 2LW, 1-2D, G). Typically the team who receives the best player is thought to "win" a trade. Trading away who you know to be the better player in a deal means you need to receive a massive overpayment to make it worth it (and "win" the trade), especially if you don't really need to move the better player.
To me, the Oilers position of strength currently is the right wing, and Hemsky has insufficient trade value to get what we want. That means Ebs or Yak, and in a hypothetical situation I'm partial to keeping Yak.
So MacT needs to get one good big 2LW, 1-2D or G, and needs to get at least another good prospect who is big 2LW, 1-2D or G and then a first to make it worth it, and I do mean good players, not plugs. A team would have to be very deep where we need them to be for this to work.
So yes, I'm suggesting a huge overpayment for Eberle cause that's the only way I would accept it and the only way MacT would. He said so himself, no one is untouchable, meaning that a huge overpayment for a superkid would not be out of the question.
that was a lot of thinking - BigDre
What are we trying to get that we can't get by UFA? Horton is killing in the playoffs. Striet who has a connection with our coach just got 4 points tonight. Then we need to fill the back end and there are several good UFA's for that. Big tough guys that can skate. Bickel would be my target if Stalberg wants too much. Then all we need to do is get enough from Hemsky and everything else to get us a 2-4 dman. If klefbom turns out we can part with Smid or Schultz to also get pieces (maybe picks) to use to with picks from hemsky to get the dman we need. Will we have to over pay. Sure. Striet might give us a deal if we go long term.
Rumour is, he wants 3 but if we keep him till he is 40 (5 years he might do 4 mill a year). Horton we can sign for 6 mil two years. That is a good offer for a guy with concussion problems. He can either prove himself or not. By then, this years draft pick or Paajarvi should be ready to take his place.

I was of the impression that we gingers lost our hair colour once we hit 60 - MaximumBone
I think it stays (especially in the pubic area) till we are in at least our 70's /80's. I will start asking some of the old broads at the LTC facility I am at this summer what their original hair color was, and when they started to lose it. Nothing wrong with a little empirical research while working.

That's a strange way to hit on girls your age - MaximumBone
Dude, I got like 4 girlfriends there already, it's a great way to get into their wills.
I am either gonna get rich, or be stuck with cleaning out all their old garbage from their rooms when they kick off.

I actually agree,Mr.Steinley. Not sure I would want Streit for more than 3 or that He and Horton are interested in the money your talking or even coming to Edmonton, but your point that there are options in free Agency is valid. We don't even have to hit a home run in free agency.Simple upgrades to what we are losing might almost be enough. This talk about trading a kid for Weber ,like some say,for example is silly.Weber is awesome ,as is Chara,Doughty,Pietrangelo etc...but not every playoff team has one. This Team can win without a huge blockbuster deal, just some simple upgrades. Streit and Horton would for damn sure make us better though, as would Stalberg or Bickel. I would also think there is merit in adding a crusty veteran 4th or 5th D-Man to be solid and reliable and provide some mentorship for Klefbom.
1. Taylor Hall - Hall is the guy you build the entire team around. Yes, he has a temper and sometimes completely loses his cool. Would you rather he sleepwalk through games? Hall not only gets mad at the opposition when he loses, he also gives it to his own team. You need to put a "C" on him, because that's the guy you want in the dressing room holding everyone's feet to the fire. Coaches can't act that way anymore...the modern NHL coach is a purely positive motivator. But having a captain who is old-school, brutalizing his teammates when they aren't giving 110 is great. Aside from his leadership and work ethic, Hall is a point-per-game player now. He's brilliant on every conceivable level. - Maxbone
COMPLETELY W-R-O-N-G!
Hall has said numerous times that he is not the guy who will speak up in the dressing room... I have no idea where you guys get this from.
Never seen this show either. Is it good? - ruttager17
It's my favourite right now. I couldn't tell you if you'd like it as the show is aimed towards young adults and youth, but I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot.
