I've been a Kings fan for 25 years, and this is one of the best series I've ever seen -- on par with the Kings vs. Leafs Campbell Conference finals in 1993.
Shockingly no one is complaining about the blatant interference in OT against the Kings.
Then again you aren't Islander fans.
Great game. Tough loss. - Sell My Monkey
Didn't see it (couldn't watch), how bad was it? Looks like they didn't call many penalties through the game at all, none in the third or OT... Looks like they were just letting guys play, didn't want a call to be what changed the game like the Sharks and Vancouver game. I like when playoff games are called like that, I think it should go that way... But if something is so blatant it needs to be called, then it should be called.

The Blues are the Caps of the West, disappointment year after year. - MadCap2008
Why do u say this? This core is still very young and imo, this is really only their 2nd kick at the can as a real contender.
I also dont see a scenario where they dont get a bunch more too.
The caps are 4 or 5 years furthur along in theire failures.

This is nonsense. The Blue are a solid squad who a) aren't out of it yet (it takes 4, you know) b) are young and c) are playing the defending cup champs.

Puck is chipped in from just outside the blue line (5 or 6 mins into OT). Blues forward tries to go down the boards a good 10 15 feet after the chip he got pasted into the boards.
Blues fans boo rather noitcable. Bob Miller at the time said the crowd wants an interference penalty (so there is when it happened if you watch the replays.
I was shocked there wasn't a call. BUT this series has been a war.
I think the physicality in this series negates what would have been called.
Kings back on the freight train. Going to be a tough out for any team
There still fairly young team, reminds me of the struggles Kings went through before the Richards and Carter trades. - Kings1988
Exactly right...the only problem is that the Blues will never be able to afford two players like Richards and Carter. Hopefully our young players turn into those type of players for us.
Schwartz breaks his stick in front of the bench in frustration. He was the guy who was late on the backcheck, which is what had Voynov free. Would be really nice to see some of that passion in the rest of the team Friday night. - Chip McCleary
Schwartz should have been the last on the backcheck as he was behind the Kings net when the play turned the other direction.
In watching the video, it seems to confirm what I thought last night - 1) Backes makes a bad decision much like Phaneuf last night and adds to it by taking a horrible angle on the free puck on the side boards and gets cut off by Brown from the puck (could have been an interference call but in OT they put away the whistle in OT and were consistent about it in OT at least); 2) Schwartz outhustles Steen back into the play but doesn't get there in time; 3)Steen had a great game but really didn't give effort on the GWG 4) Sad that Schwartz and Steen were on the ice for this because they were the best Blues last night along with Sobotka again
Doesn't really matter as it is playoff hockey but this wouldn't have been called in the regular season either.

I apologize, I thought we were talking about a play that happened earlier in OT when we dumped the puck in and a King's defenseman pinched on the half boards for entirely too long when the puck was already in the corner for a good couple seconds. That was the only play I remember the crowd up roaring about and the commentators mentioning.
That play you show right there was definitely not an interference play...
EDIT: After re-reading the convo it seems that you were the one discussing the wrong play. The situation described above by Sell My Monkey is the play in question. I've tried finding a video of it but I can't.

All good points except for thinking that Backes was interfered with. Just, no.
Interesting to see the relative lack of complaining about the officials relative to other fans teams and comments by tv analysts...Not much complaining I have heard or seen considering the stripes were involved directly in the kings two regulation goals and some might argue the OT guy by not calling Brown's hit on Backes (I'm not one calling for that penalty on Brown, especially given what else wasn't called in the game. I just want refs to be consistent.)
Keys to last nights games (not in any order) -
1) Linesmen power trips/face offs...They were brutal for both teams, partly due to both teams wingers encroaching the face-off area all night but it seemed like the linesmen were lecturing the players a lot and drops took a long time to actually occur. Also, Carter was working over the linesmen and ref all night, so much so that I thought he was Crosby but it worked. On the Kings first goal, the Blues center got tossed and Oshie had to take the draw. Oshie promply lost the draw and lost his defensive responsibility, letting Richards go or more appropriately getting out-muscled by him.
2) Refs mostly let everything go except a 10 second hook by Carter that was so long that it had to be called and blowing the two calls on the Blues. If you watch the replay on the Shattenkirk penalty, note that the Kings player actually slew foots him (minor case but the kings players skate pushes shatty's skate out from underneath him) causing Shatty to fall and his stick to come up. Terrible call. Jackman's call was super weak imho especially when you consider the rest of the non-calls throughout the game. They let a too many men on the ice go, a guy catching and carrying the puck, interference, etc. It's a shame they were so close to being consistent on calls. Good news is that the Blues don't seem to be the team whiners anymore to officials which kept making the calls worse against us in prior years. You have to win the game, regardless of whether the officiating was the worst ever, best ever, inconsistent, whatever. We are better about this but still growing.
3) Hitchcock is a bit delusional and definitely getting out-coached. A good coach for certain but a bit delusional.
a) I hope he got what he asked for last night as he has been saying all along that the refs should watch from row 5. I think we would want that strategy with any team other than the Kings. They are one of the few teams that is actually as big or bigger and as physical or more physical than we are. This may not be quite the right message to send to the refs and may backfire a bit in receiving calls.
b) His quote after the game - "We had no passengers today," Hitchcock said. He also made a comment about how if they play the same exact way in the next game they will be fine. Really? What game were you watching? Do you take a pee break every time Andy Mac is on the ice? If he thinks that same effort across the board will get it done, book your tee times now. (Note I am not saying they can't get it done but a number of players have to improve their game). You are happy with Stewart's play? Leopold last night? If you think this is the best we can do/give, then unfortunately you may be part of the problem.
c) I realize the CPR line had bad consecutive shifts last night which earned them basically being benched all night. I can understand that a bit, especially being down a goal, but rolling three lines. especially with a lot of smaller (some of them perimeter) guys is an issue against a team like the Kings. I think you have to work them back into the game so they can get back to banging on the Kings D which leads to good things later in the game.
d) Andy Mac has been completely ineffective in the series and still gets a lot of minutes. You could have tried the Tank in his spot in game 4. In any of the other games, you could at least try letting Porter take Andy's spot a time or two to see if that works out better, especially since ou are basically giving the CPR line most of the second half of the game off anyway.
4) Blues PK was terrible on coverage to start the third.....Note two Blues PK players out high at the point leaving Sobotka scrambling to come back to try and cover Richards. The right D went out high along with the right forward (no way you should have two PK players pressuring the same point man), leaving the left D to rotate to cover the right D and Sobotka couldn't come back to cover Richards in time.
Good news is that Sobotka, Schwartz, and Steen all played well. Elliott played well until the last goal though I may not see it as weak as a lot are suggesting.
The counter-pinch by Brown wasn't interference it was a great play! - arh777
Yep. that play happens all the time and only gets called when the refs are getting ticky tacky...it's kind of like the pick play. I tie you up so my other guy can get the puck. Generally works out as a very smarth hockey play.

Re-read the conversation above...no one is saying the play by Brown was interference. The play in question happened well before it.

Yep.
Refs put the whistle away after the second period and for most of the game for that matter. Everyone knew it and should have been playing accordingly. While I may not have agreed with the officiating, I'm ok with it in the third and OT because they were definitely consistent most of the night. If the refs are consistent, players can adjust and should adjust. Refs are going to miss a call here and there which happens (shatty example is a good one because of how it looked to the ref who made the call because of his angle). They weren't the reason the team lost.

The Blues remind me of the Kings last year during their run. The only exception might be the ability to put the puck in the back of the net. They've had numerous chances to score and failed to do so, some of that being Quicks great play! Experience is also a factor as the Kings have been through this before. This series is NOT over so Blues fans shouldn't give up. This series very well could have been a sweep by either team.

I agree, I'm always for less ticky-tack calls as long as it's consistent and I don't think the pinch on the dump in which is being discussed deserved a penalty. I just wanted to make it clear which play everyone is talking about because I don't see how anyone in their right mind could call that play by Brown on Backes a penalty, even in the regular season. Unfortunately, I can't find a replay anywhere of the play that caused the controversy which probably shows how little it mattered
