Word on Frans Nielsen is lower body injury not serious, will likely try to play Game 6 as of now. #Isles

I don't know if I was the Islanders I would have started Poulin in game 5, I mean it was almost a guaranteed lost with Vokoun in the net. then Nabby comes back with some rest. I honestly feel this is the problem the guy is to old and has played to much.
- kasperrko

No way the Isles replace Nabby. Kencan and I argued prior to the series over the importance of the Isles having a decent backup for these playoffs. My argument was that our backup is irrelevant because the Isles won't start anyone in the playoffs other than Nabby. The team had him play over 80% of the games this year. They're not going to yank him now.
I personally think Poulin has looked good in the time he's played and think his athleticism makes him a better goalie for this series, but can't argue the fact you stick with the horse who 'brought ya there'. I think changing goalies would be too unsettling for the team at this stage, no matter how awful he's been.

Well there you have it. When Staple said he was 'lightly hobbling' around the lockeroom during the end of the third period, I figured he might be okay. Our focus has to shift to defensive decisions now.

xx...Neilsen isn't going anywhere...either is Moulson...
- kear20

I dont think so either... But Neilsen is hurt & may not play,
keaner17 said "We have no backup plan for losing Frans Nielsen. If he's out, I think we're toast"
I just was wondering.. since Nielsen is always the name mentioned by people here as the most tradeable/replaceable... we can just replace him.... right?

thats all I was asking.

I'm worried about the same, but these guys have been playing with him for two years now. They know what he's capable of doing, so I think they'll concentrate on them game. Frankly I think he should be on a short leash though. Three and out.

I understand that. Of course when the 'he's replaceable' conversations were going on, we were at the end of March, not May 10th. Huge difference there. Right now, our replacements for his roster spot are either Reasoner, Nelson or Strome. Given the choice, I'm taking Strome, but that scenario doesn't work nearly as well during the playoffs as opposed to pre trade deadline. I think if Nelson or Strome has a month to play with this team prior to the playoffs, we're a better team than with Nielsen (with all respect to what his line did that month). Having two elite players on different lines makes this team A LOT more dangerous.

oh jesus...where do i begin?!?!?!

1) cappy should have been fired the second the lineups were posted-- hickey and reasoner play game 1, they get SHELLED and pulled for game 2-4, isles for all intents and purposes outplay the pens and its reeally not that debatable. for some reason, which i STILL cant understand, cappy decides to fix what isnt broken and take ullstrom AND carkner, who like i said yesterday was doing a good job, out of the lineup for no apparent reason. anyone? can someone explain why cappy did this? and no, this isnt hindsight, i was thinking poop at the wall before the game started.

2) this was game 1 all over again...slow, timid and no one crashing the net. vokoun wasnt anything great- lets not play the MAF vs Vokoun game today, T.V. was clearly nervous in the first period, leaving juicy rebounds but no one was within 15 feet of him. un-(frank)ing-real!!!

3) poulin SHOULD play and this is why...1) worst case scenario, hell either be just as bad (or better) than nanbby, he cant possibly be worse 2) at this point, hard for me to believe the team trusts nabby 3) nabby is either gone or a backup after this season 4) its a good experience for poulin 5) pens have less info on poulin. 6) why not?!

4) moulson must be traded this offseason before other teams pick up on how one dimensional he is...he has been HANDS DOWN the WORST player on the ice in 5 stragith playoff games...id trade moulson and a 1st for top goalie or top pairing dman.

I would not have changed goalies for the next game I am talking about the last game. Everyone knew the Pens were going to win that game. I told all my friends they would get shut out. the Islanders hav eno answers for Vokoun and if he started the series we would not be talking about game 6 cause more than likely it would have been done in 4

The Islanders have never scored on Vokoun. If the Islanders come back and win this series I will do anything in this world. You name it. I hate to say it but I just don't see the Islanders doing much with Vokoun in net

Funny thing is I was going to predict we lose 5-0 again last night but didn't want to add to the anxiety here..4-0 was close enough. I don't see there being any way any coach would have changed goalies after evening the series at 2 a piece. The Isles were shocking the world at that stage. It's why I didn't like bringing in Hickey for Carkner, even though I like Hickey better.
Too often Cappy outthinks himself trying to match lineup changes for the other team.

according to your logic (?) how does changing nabby with poulin have any impact on whether the isles will score on a goalie theyve "never scored on"?

It is not for that but it just may be the rest Nabby needs to have an enormous game and if we are lucky to score one we could win

exactly...(and joensuu for ullstrom)...its just unnecessary!!! the team was clicking for 3 monster games and this d-bag out-coaches himself and the team goes on to lose.

before the series started i was ok with cappy being resigned, he deserved it honestly. he brought a team that wasnt expecting to compete into the playoffs and were a force!! but once he started trying to be cute and have reasoner & last nights scratches (i was pissed about ALL these moves before the end result IE not hindsight), he proved he is just not that bright...

id almost hope there are coaches watching these playoffs and getting frustrated watching his decisions and saying to themselves "damn this a good team but cappy is being too cute...i could help this team"....#wishfulthinking?

I agree why fix something that is not broken. I think he tries to coach but he fails on so many levels. He goes with his gut but he lost his gut the beginning of the season
