exactly...(and joensuu for ullstrom)...its just unnecessary!!! the team was clicking for 3 monster games and this d-bag out-coaches himself and the team goes on to lose.

before the series started i was ok with cappy being resigned, he deserved it honestly. he brought a team that wasnt expecting to compete into the playoffs and were a force!! but once he started trying to be cute and have reasoner & last nights scratches (i was pissed about ALL these moves before the end result IE not hindsight), he proved he is just not that bright...

id almost hope there are coaches watching these playoffs and getting frustrated watching his decisions and saying to themselves "damn this a good team but cappy is being too cute...i could help this team"....#wishfulthinking?

2 year extension in the works, might even be 3 years

The Islanders have never scored on Vokoun. If the Islanders come back and win this series I will do anything in this world. You name it. I hate to say it but I just don't see the Islanders doing much with Vokoun in net
- kasperrko

We can't be a perimeter team against him. Forget Vokoun's past against this team because it wasn't THIS team. But he's solid enough positionally that if we take all of our shots under durress and from low percentage areas, we won't get lucky. He had a lot of rebound control issues last night but no one was in the dirty areas to cash in. The Isles had some chances early and I think if we leave that first period up 2-0, we win the game as we wouldn't have been forced out of the defensive system so quickly and eventually Pittsburgh would have opened themselves up to the transition game more.
The bottom line is Nabby must be better, and the Isles have to return to their relentless forechecking.

Goes back to what I was saying about Cappy. He seems like a good guy and is okay from a motivational standpoint, but seems very challegned with personnel decisions like line changes and lineups.

first off, i dont necessarily believe this, you have a tendency to come off sounding extremely confident in certain things but sometimes the confidence far surpasses reality.

having said that, im not saying he WONT get extended, im just saying along the same line of nabby...hes proven when the going gets tough and playoff times comes around, hes a deer in headlights. there ARE better options.

Ignore him too. He is also an idiot.

The Islanders look flat following the first period. They looked alright the first period I though it was going to be one of those tough 1-0 games. The Kennedy goal could have been survived but the Islanders deflated following the Murray debacle.

The Penguins finally played a complete game too. They didn't fall into that stupid prevent defense.

I'm still not comfortable with this series. I won't be until it's over and the smoke clears.

Ben, oh Ben. Still mad that I have intellectually b-slapped you over the years. Too bad son.

Regardless, let's not resort to name calling. Your little CPF isn't here to protect you.

according to your logic (?) how does changing nabby with poulin have any impact on whether the isles will score on a goalie theyve "never scored on"?
- LetsGoIsles

Exactly it doesn't matter who is in goal. The islanders can't play a finesse game against pitt. That is why i don't understand why Cap went with Hickey over Carkner. He said in his post game that he was catering to the changes Bylsma was making to his lineup. The only shot they have on winning is by being the more physical team. They are not skilled enough to let pitt roam all over the ice and not take the body.

Ok so 2 goals per game. With Nabby giving up 4 we don't have a chance

I give Cappy one year and see what he can do with a full season. If they make the playoffs again then give him a couple of years. Honestly I would hope the brain trust has the brains to get a premium coach when we move to Brooklyn

Some weak calls all over (like not sending BOTH Martins to the box, but also the Murray interference). Getting used to it now. Must be getting old.

There are going to be a lot of goalies available this offseason.

Vokoun, Howard, Backstrom are the only 3 with any prolonged proven track record. Smith has played very well on defensive-minded teams, not so much on others. I don't think any of them are the kind that turns a team into a contender by himself.

While Poulin has been good in relief when nabby pulled he was challenged.
- Spartiarti

Nabby has played MAF'esque, the difference is he doesn't have a history of taking your particular team to the playoffs and preforming sub-par. If he did, I could easily see putting Poulin in.

I say we trade for Ryan Miller possible Nino and a first and throw in a prospect

It's a possibility, although I'd expect Buffalo would want to send him out of Conference.
If you can live with the contract, you guys could be suitors for Luongo.

The one I'll take from this series will be how on earth does Letang escape without so much as a warning let alone a suspension for crosschecking an official
Shanny can suspend one guy for a seeimingly clean hit and claim the passer and player himself bear no responsibility in the matter, but then overlooks a player crosschecking an official in the back..

I don't know if he is the right guy for the job. If we get rid of DP contract Idont know if they would want another big contract like that. LEss pressure here to play though so maybe he has a bounce back year

not our team, but a history of it with the sharks.

Some of those teams he was on were favored to win the cup & came up VERY short.
