don't think we are healthy enuf to let coby go at this point...plus we'd be selling low. - isaiah520
That D-core really needs a major rebuild imo.
To trim the overpaid inconsistency, and mediocrity.
Im all in favour of giving Guss and Oliver full time permanent roles on that back end next season. The Flyers have one of the most highly paid bluelines in the NHL.
For what? They dont know how Coburn will play at a given night. Great or Brutal. As well as the injury questions of Meszaros and Grossman. |

Seen a couple of mock drafts. At #11 they have Flyers selecting Samuel Morin. Any thoughts? Don't know much about him (researching online). |

I was just coming in here to mention Edler. Before he signed his new extension, he was my #1 target. Now that Vancouver needs to overhaul their roster a bit, maybe he's available for the right price.
A Canucks fan suggested a Simmonds for Edler trade. I love Wayne Train, but if we're looking for a long-term #1 d-man, you have to give to get. This allows us to retain Schenn x2, Coots, and Read. Probably won't happen, as Homer says we need to get "bigger up front", so this would be a 180 move.
Thoughts on this fan offer, and your guys offers to acquire Edler? - Rocktane
Edler is a bit old (not actually old just not an addition to our youth core). Id rather give Read and a few extra small assets than Simmonds and a few less of those small assets. Read is older, smaller, less physical. He's still awesome, I just think Simmonds will be on another tier when he's Read's age. Someone in an old comment thread listed all 5 or something players this season who had over 75 PIM and still over 15 goals. I remember Clarkson, Simmonds, and Evander Kane made that list. Simmonds is our poor-man's Evander Kane, and I'd really rather see us keep him while we still have Read to trade. |

He's more of a stay at home guy and for me that's a bit high for him. I have a few I'd like at 11 at forward and defense. |

Here's the notes on him from the mock site...
Samuel Morin is this year's most intriguing prospect as he stands a whopping 6'8, can skate and make offensive plays, his stock is at a premium after a solid showing at the U18 World Championships where he helped Canada capture gold |

I agree w/ Bill that Lauridsen needs more seasoning, so I'd rule him out until at least mid yr and to plan for gusty being more than a 3rd pairing puck mover is haphazard right now. let him prove it. we just had a season of guys playing outside their proper roles and it was largely a fiasco. |

Honestly if Nichushkin, Pulock, Zadorov, Ristolainen, and Nurse are all gone by 11 then someone much better than Morin will have dropped into our hands. I'd rather see the Flyers pick anyone from the previous list (or anyone who drops to 11 as a result of them all being picked) than Morin. Where did this mock draft have Pulock being picked? |

That's just defense there will be some forwards you have to seriously consider at #11. |

I would love to trade for Edler. Vancouver looking to make some changes so I would at least call and find out. |

Yes they are & for him I'd imagine they would prefer prospects & picks since they have cap issues. If that's the case we are limited in what we could offer. |

Yes i agree 27 is the beginning of a players prime but on the same note Coby is 28 and Mez is also 27. I'd love to get Edler, Id just rather trade a mid-aged player for someone not in our youth core (AKA Read, Hartnell). I don't by any stretch believe Read or Hartnell will get us Edler, I don't even know if VAN would be interested in Hartnell, I would just rather give one of them plus more lower-level assets and keep Simmonds. |

No doubt you make a call check out the possible cost & see if you can get them to come down from it. If not you leave the door open but continue to explore every possible option. |

For me (I really don't know the answer), what are the expectations for Coburn? Is he closer to Grossmann and Schenn and pretty much a stay at-home d-man? If that is the case, I'm not sure it is prudent to have three defensive d-men in your top 6 eating almost $12 million against the cap. If the expectation is Coburn is more of a well-rounded d-man then his slot along with Schenn and Grossmann makes sense. |

i think he'll rebound cause he's usually been fairly solid. |

I personally would like to see the Flyers move one of Mez or Coburn. Buyout Briere and Bryzgalov.
That would free up some money and give them flexibility to take care of their own guys or look for help elsewhere. |

I'm rooting for the guy. If he can offer some offensive punch and puck moving ability on a 2nd pairing with Grossmann, plus if Gus continues his good play on the third pairing then this defense looks a lot better. Coburn needs to rebound no doubt and be playoff-Coburn more consistently. |

Rules question, Does the compliance buyout period end before next season starts or before it ends? For example could we keep Bryz for the year and just buy him out at the end of the season if it just isn't working? When exactly do the Compliance Buyouts expire? |

by the time some of these forwards are 25, many have been in the league for 6 yrs and played close to 400 gms and some have peaked. iow, trading a 22-23 yr old forward is often comparable to trading for a 26-27 yr old dman in terms of development. given the value of dmen in this league, we'd be fortunate to acquire a dman like edler for someone like b schenn, as painful as it might seem. |

if we use both amnesties, that will be sufficient. besides, i don't think there are enuf good dmen available for us to trade coby. mez has little value to any team right now, except us. |

But there are other ways to do it. I'm sure Vancouver would be receptive to Matt Read being a starting point for Edler if we never even offer B Schenn or Coots. Read would by no means be the only piece involved, but a good starting point. |
