Somehow have the Rangers win tonight, but Lundqvist goes down with an injury. At that point, the Rangers have no choice but to forfeit the next series.
In Boston, the Bruins win 5-3 but Kessel scores a hat trick. The jeers of the trade haunt Boston so much that the entire team goes into a serious depression, driving them all to alcoholism. This will have a negative effect on all of their non-Canadian players, and they will accidentally play all of their games at the local YMCA, thereby also forfeiting all of their games.
The Penguins decide to start Fleury.
There ya go. - jmatchett383

I don't know how you guys can root for the Bruins.
I'd take the Laffs any day over them.
I even root for the Pens over the Bruins which is really (frank)ed up. - Marc D

I'm not a big Holmgren fan and agree with the sentiment that he is bad at cap/asset management but it's a lot easier to GM if you get the 1st overall pick for a few years in a row. - phillydentist
It's easy to dismiss Shero's track record as a product of a decade of high picks, but what about all the ridiculously one-sided trades he's pulled off year after year?
Kunitz and Tangradi for Whitney,
Hossa AND Dupuis for Christiansen/Armstrong/Esposito,
Neal AND Niskanen for just Goligoski,
Iginla, Morrow and Murray w/o giving up a single top-end prospect.
He's also managed to keep his payroll sane by being willing to bring depth players up from WBS and having them hold down depth positions.
He also hired Bylsma, who's a pretty darned good coach.
I don't think Shero's the best (that honor belongs to Chiarelli), but he's easily a top-10 GM. |

Wow, sounds like one of our ne'er-do-wells took a dump in another thread and now people are out for blood. But why target Bill? He's the reason I come to HB! Insightful, well written and well thought out reviews are hard to come by for Philly. And this one was fairly tame...
Whatever.
I'm still trying to figure out who to cheer for tonight... I might put one of the games on in the background and play video games... That's how enthused I am. |

Shero's payroll is what makes me quirk an eyebrow. I do have to give him a tip of the hat for his ability to stay well below the cap with his roster. Somehow he pulls in talent and doesn't have to resign them for an arm and a leg like we do. Hometown discounts do appear to exist there and they do a really good job with their contracts.
Don't get me wrong I'm actually a Holmgren supporter, I adore the fact that:
A) our GM is completely unpredictable
B) has cojones the sizes of basketballs
C) terrifies most of the other GMs
Love him or hate him we will never be bored with Holmgren. And strangely I'm comfortable with that and will allow him some screw ups. |

Btw, Simmonds beat Malkin in the NHL14 Cover Vote, lol. - Tomahawk
It inspired a Pens fan, whose dad happens to be on the hockey staff at California U(in Pennsylvania) to make a racist tweet about selling his hockey gear if Simmonds ends up on the cover.
Then he tweeted about butthurt Flyers fans attacking him, because the normally sane ones get upset and make racist comments about videogame covers. |

Homer does some things really well (scouting, drafting, trades), but the things he does badly (cap-management, contract (re)negotiating, UFA) are seriously debilitating.
I think Homer would probably be a much more patient and methodical GM w/o constant Snider's interference. Probably could say the same for Bobby Clarke.
