No excuses. This Team (frank)ing blew it last night. It makes me sick to my stomach and has me questioning my faith in a team that I've cheered for for 30 years. This one hurts more than any other playoff loss 1993 included. |

I was furious after Boston's 3rd goal when Carlyle left the same 5 guys out there for the next faceoff, and whaddaya know, they scored again but 30 seconds later. No timeout to calm the boys down, nothing. I really don't want to hear any excuses of injuries from the team. Boston didn't play two of their more experienced defensemen due to injuries, but for some reason we had a pair of limp, "injured" defensemen (one being our captain) shuffling around the ice for the last 5 minutes while Boston skating circles around us. Dion has to either man up and play like he has a pair, or get off the ice if your injured. - p_zub
Yeah actually I was thinking the same....why no timeout!? |

I did some modding last night but thought it best to leave for a bit, Howard was nice enough this morning to pitch in, really appreciated it. |

So racist Lou!
Anyways, I think B Gordon would be an excellent grab much like McClement seeing as they play the exact same way except Gordon can actually win face-offs. |

Many of us will second guess the decision to have some out there, if you go the year trusting JVR and Komarov (who will dive to block shots) to kill penalties why not have they out the last minute, but it is all a moot point now. |

It is more embarassing...
but it does not hurt more than 1993. This Leafs team was not going to challenge for a cup. The loss in 1993, and the circumstances of the blatant blown call, that cost us the chance to go to a SCF!?
Yeah, 1993 was worse.

i agree with this line of thinking. best way to gauge how young a team is is by how many players under 25 they have on the roster. the Leafs rather young average age tends to stem from them not having many older veterans, guys in their mid to late 30s, as opposed to having a lot of young players in the lineup. i do think one or two grizzled vets would have gone a long way to locking that game down last night. - DoubleDown
This. The younger core of the team seems like they've grown a lot over the span of the 7 game series. What Nonis needs to focus on now, is to fill a few spots on the roster with playoff-tested veterans. |

Honestly, They just crumbled.
I think they panicked and nobody stepped up to keep them calm and focused.
Carlyle's decision to put Phaneuf out there after the 3rd goal will go down as one of the absolute worst coaching decisions I have ever seen. Phaneuf almost single-handedly threw this game away.

what's your take on Phaneuf? didn't see much of the game last night but he just let Chara tower over Reimer on that tying goal. i'm wondering if his thinking was that "no way im moving him so i might as well stay out of Reimer's way"? |
