yeah, cause JVR is suuuuuch a clean player, ....
refs put their whistles away the whole game, lots of stuff was let go on both sides. cant believe the Leafs let the B's back in like that, great series though.

Dude, I wasn't blaming the refs for losing the game, I was making the point that if they were letting poop go, I would've liked to have seen Marchand get the poop kicked out of him. I mean what was with those rabbit punches he was throwing at Lupul after the whistle? The guy is a piece of crap. You've got a great team, I have no issues with any of your other players......I just despise Marchand.

They did choke, but they also exceeded your expectations to start the year.
- mykokes

Correct.
But that doesn't outweight the choke.
In fact it makes it worse, it shows me, they really havent changed all that much.

Well, what the Leafs showed is that Marchand isn't actually very tough at all. And against a tough team he is rendered fairly useless.

Yeah my concerns are WAY more about making the playoffs next season and whether or not it is even possible to address the holes in the team this off-season.

Last night was sickening. The worst I have felt as a Leafs fan since 1993.

Gotta let it go though and look at the big picture. The Leafs were a really competitive team this year.

- Aetherial

They need to make some changes this off season.
Bozak cannot come back as our number 1 center.
Better forward depth
Better D depth.

Although Rebound Reimer had some good games, I dont believe he is the goalie that will take us to the next level.
Who is? I dont know.......but I dont think he is.

The Leafs struggled with consistency all season. They rarely played 60 minutes of hockey. They routinely blew 2 goal leads all season. Inconsistency reared its ugly head at the worst possible time. Having said that, they also made great strides this season. It's definitely a mixed bag. They don't deserve to be let off the hook easily for the meltdown. They are professionals, and what occurred last night was less than professionalism. More than their fans, they let themselves down last night.

This falls on the league, they must see all those cross checks, rabbit punches to the back and to the head, this is where suspensions and warnings can get it out of the game, it's not just once a game it is after every whistle.

That being said, I have more of an issue with the Lucic hit, that has to be called every time no matter what stage of the game.

I said it at the beginning of the season, all I want is for them to be competitive, while others said I settle for mediocrity and tanking is the best way to go.

To me I just want to see effort on the ice and the rest can fall where it may.

- LeafMan

Some real nice surprises this year.

Unfortuantely, what the Leafs really need are what every other team also needs, a top pairing Dman and a Legit #1 center.

That Marchand water bottle bothers me more the more I think about it. If not for the collapse, more people would be discussing it.

After Boston fans litter the ice with towels to gain their team an extra long stoppage, the PA tells the crowd that any more debris on the ice will result in a penalty for the home team.

To start OT, Marchand - a member of the home team, no less - throws debris on the ice to deliberately delay the game.

Besides "putting the whistles away" which is the most bush league mentality ever, can somebody explain the rational behind not calling that penalty?

Leafs need some beef at centre IMO.

Yeah and I don't think Colborne is that guy.

Such a tough thing to find... another parallel with the Habs.

Still time for him to work on that stuff.

He isn't an elite goalie, but I think he proved himself a legit starter. Considering Reimer's performance in Games 5/6, I think we would not have fared better with Luongo.

I dunno though, you may be right.

Lots of people do, in fact when he was in the minors, one of his goals was to make sure at least one person on the other team hated him. But I also saw JVR throwing cheap shots after the whistle this series. There were some epic games this round, some people saying last wed's game was the best they ever saw. Leafs never backed down, and had a solid chance to win.

It is pretty funny. Everyone talks a big game about how proud they are of this team taking the Bruins to 7.

Then we lose, and the crapping on the team starts in full force. On steroids.

You know the last team to blow a 3 goal lead in a game 7? The Bruins as they lost in the worst collapse in NHL history in 2010.

Came back and won the cup the next year, for what it's worth.

In all honesty.. the lesson the leafs learned last night is probably more valuable to this particular group then advancing

its the way they lost that has everyone riled up is all.

The Leafs lost fair and square, but as a ref, failing to call Marchands water bottle was simply bush league. We'de call that in a minor hockey game and all the way up, it's the least thoughtful call there is. If you make contact with anyone on the ice or throw anything on the ice, even during a stoppage, it automatic. The officiating in all the series has been poor, but in this series was better than most.

Exactly. There are needs for this team but just getting older and better will make them better next year. I do believe a true number 1 defencmen, even more than a number 1 centre is needed, as I've said all year.

It's such a joke that if you skate up and cross-check a guy in the ribs it all fine. But if he retaliates, they both go to the box. What is stop female genitalias like Marchand from being a little someone who is attracted to the opposite sex and going after top players after every whistle?

EDIT: I'm just as mad that the Leafs didn't stoop to the level of the no-class Bruins and exploit the "playoff guide to refereeing where anything goes".

yeah although i think the Habs bigger concern long term is beef on the wings. Eller's a big boy. and Galchenyuk has decent enough size for when he moves to centre full time. still, both are difficult commodities to find. which is why Clarkson and Clowe are going to make a poopload of money this summer.
