Volkon starting to look a little shaky. Unfortunately PENS offense showed up to play. |

I much rather keep Simmonds than Hartnell.
Simmonds still has room to improve his game, and grow as a player.
With Hartnell, you get a lot of bad, with the good, and he is who he is at this point in his career. A package centering around Hartnell/Edler would be amazing in my books. - flyer_nutter
Certainly, but if it was the difference between Edler or no Edler, I'd make that trade. |

If Vancouver would agree to that, It wouldn't take more then a nano second to say yes, and ship Simmonds out. I wouldn't be able to make the trade call fast enough to the NHL offices. Simmonds is exactly what Vancouver is looking for. Doesn't mean they're going to trade a very valuable asset in Edler to get that player. Why not just try and sign Clarkson, or Clowe? I would be absolutely flabbergasted if Vancouver would agree to that. - MJL
Hartnell is better than Clarkson and Clowe. If they can get him for a player they're planning to trade (assuming the wide-spread word that they're blowing up this offseason are true) than I don't see why they wouldn't opt for him over either of those 2. |

Kane is talented, but has big attitude issues.
I'd stay away from that, especially for what the Jets would ask in return. (think Coots + ) - flyer_nutter
We were talking about Schenn + I think, at least I was , which I honestly don't see a problem with. He's exactly what we want. Big, strong, fast, two-way, and a great play maker and goal scorer, similar to Voracek. I think it'd definitely be worth it to give B Schenn + Read for Kane + |

Because neither Clarkson nor Clowe is as young as Simmonds with as much upside at this stage of their respective careers. That's like saying, why trade for Edler when Vishnovsky and Hainsey are free agents. Hell I'd even say that I'd rather have Hartnell at his cap hit than Clowe or Clarkson at their current cap hits. |

PK Subban has big attitude issues also. He's a finalist for the Norris Trophy. Do you give any credence to the fact that he's 21 years old and has some maturing to do? Like most 21 year old young men?

Agreed. Hartnell with the no trade makes that stickier though. BTW Hartnell is not a 40 goal scorer. Stamkos is a 40 goal scorer. He once scored 40 and is a good player with several glaring flaws.
I would happily trade any of the offer people are throwing out for Edler. Which is why I think Van would not. |

imo Simmonds should remain untouchable this offseason. - JAKEw1234
If I can get a top four guy, who can play all situations and has good mobility, I'm willing to move Simmonds for him. |

That's a good point. But my point is why give up a still fairly young quality puck moving defenseman to get something you can get in Free Agency. Clowe and Clarkson are certainly older, but they're not that old. I'd be totally shocked if Vancouver would deal Edler for Simmonds. I'd make that trade in a heartbeat.

For Jake1234
Edit: If you want links, I cant provide because I dont have time to look them up with my nursing schedule this week. Most of the issues revolve around his sub par efforts in the defensive zone, and on the back-check which have been mentioned by the coach himself ever since the Atlanta move. He has basically whined about the city and come close to saying he wants out. I lose respect for players real fast when I see stuff like that. If you watch him play, he is one of those guys who will be dynamite one shift, but give a rats ass another. Lastly, and this is really just speculation I suppose, but he has really developed a habit of being a douchebag in this city. Going to restaurants and often leaving without paying the bill or giving a tip because of who he is. He has basically developed a reputation as a talented, but really "better than thou" player, on and off the ice.
In a city that loves its players and worships them, he is the odd man out along with Buff. |

Yeah, I'd lean towards agreeing with you. If the price is right, I don't shy away from adding an Evander Kane level player just because he is known to be a Richard or immature. I just turned 20, I sure as hell know that there's still growing up to do. |

The problem with this is that you removed having to trade Edler from the equation. Hartnell isn't that much better.

See I think Hartnell is probably worth more due to his career. I'd trade him in a heartbeat for Edler.
With Simmonds, I really dont know. I dont like trading one of the real few guys who gave it their all nearly every shift last season, and for how young he is. This team needs more guys like that, not less.
As good as Edler is, he is inconsistent for the role is he expected to play, and is no Timonen in the defensive zone. |

That describes half of the 20-21 year old players in the League. The other Kane stiffed a Cabbie.

One reason they wouldn't just sign Clowe or Clarkson is that they have limited cap room, even if they use a CBO on Luongo or Booth, as rumored. |

I would bet testicles that the Jets would ask for Coots +, or Schenn and a lot more for Kane.
He is talented, but honestly I think this organization needs to focus on bringing guys with the right attitude in here, not players who need "maturing" on AND off the ice.
Many kids come up from the draft without those questions. I'd stay away, but thats just me. |

Actually Hartnell has never scored 40 goals in a Season. But I didn't want to nitpick with the poster claiming he's a 40 goal scorer. 37 goals is Hartnell's career high. And it was only his second Season of 30 or more goals in his career.

I wouldn't bring in Kane just cause he's a good player. My point being, I wouldn't NOT make the right trade for him, just cause he's a cocky wiener. |

Yes, but there are ways around that. CBO being one of them. I don't see Hartnell or Simmonds being enough for Edler. Defenseman like that are in very high demand.

Regarding Evander, I would take him, but with those questions and the cost it would take to even get the Jets to consider?
This organization needs to move away from players who have an inconsistent, and sub par defensively reputation.
Its like a fad they have. |

The real point is that I don't see why Winnipeg is trading Kane. And I don't see any of the suggested deals being enough to get him.

They are, sure, but it's not as if Hartnell or Simmonds are a type of player who isn't fairly highly coveted around the NHL, either. Power forwards, who play with grit and an edge to their game, and can score 25-30 goals are hardly common commodities.
I've read a few of the Vancouver beats speculating that the Canucks might be willing to deal Edler because he can be inconsistent, and they have suggested names like Simmonds and Hartnell. Without that basis, I wouldn't have even assumed Edler was available. |
