Is Bryz perfect? No. Do I FULLY trust him? No. BUT, I also don't trust Mason either on his own. Have any of you guys considered Mason played well simply because there was literally NO PRESSURE AT ALL to perform? I just think the SMART move would be to keep Bryz on for another year at least, see how the team does, see how each respective goalie does, and then go from there on what to do with our last compliance buy-out.
Also, I'm getting really, really, really tired of people saying "oh Bryz doesn't have to do this, or say this, or say that, or he can go into Mike Richards-mode and avoid the media." Get this straight guys... THIS IS NOT FLORIDA OR PHOENIX. Do you not also think that if Bryz goes into complete silence with the media, that in itself will become an issue? No matter what, due to a wide variety of factors, Bryz is stuck in the personal and perception he's been cast into. I'm a firm believer that almost anything he does will continue as it has since he got here.

Painting him as purely a victim is also not an accurate depiction, imo.
When was the last time he did an interview about hockey? It's always about his opinions on worldly topics, or him rehashing his dismay for the Philadelphia media.
He put a lot of this on himself. |

I do think that you're right and that Bryz is going to continue as he has in the past in interviews and we should expect his shenanigans for his tenure as a Flyer.
But I also think it would be better if he never talked to another reporter. They would complain for a few months then it would blow over. Once his silence was the norm there would be a lot more conversation about his actual play versus his off ice antics which I think encourage people to belittle him.
At a certain point you stop feeling sorry for Bryz and just have to shake your head as he's made his own bed. I personally think he enjoys the attention.
As a fan it's demorilzing when your goalkeeper's interviews are played on the NHL network (or wherever) to be laughed at by all the analysts. After all he is representing your team. And when you run into casual fans at the water cooler (or wherever) they only make fun of him versus have real conversations about his play.
That's just my opinion. But I'd be ok without anymore Bryzisms. |

I dunno. I think Bryz wants to play, and I think he wants to have media attention. I'm not sure if he hates Philly or not and THAT's what frustrates me. At a certain point if you like (or even don't mind where you are playing) you need to SAY that. And either it's not getting reported (that I've heard) or he's saying nothing about whether or not he enjoys it here. And that's what leaves a bad taste in my mouth as a Flyers fan. You ask MAB how bad he wants to be a Flyer and compare that to Bryz. And people wonder why Bryz gets little to no respect? |

It started because the Philly media is a bunch of morons and asks dumb questions and made a big deal about little things. Over time he learned that no matter what he says or doesn't say the hacks will turn it into something dramatic for their low-IQ readership to lap up. So now he's just franking with them because he knows he's smarter than the lot of 'em.
Imho, of course. |

He is answering what he has been asked. I do not think it's fair to hold him responsible for the content of the interview |

It's not as if Bryzgalov is holding a press conference and setting the agenda for it. He is being asked questions by the Media. |

Really? So he doesn't like Philly as a city. Neither do I. He has pride in his country. So do I. I didn't read what you read I guess. This is much to do about nothing in my opinion. |

He can choose to only do hockey-related interviews.
The scrums in the dressing room are a different story, but there's still a level of self-control/ability to shift to more canned responses needed to avoid getting lured into such conversations. |

So, on Hockey central Dregger is reading the google translation of quotes from Bryzgalofs interview verbatim. McLean says, are you making fun of him. Dregger says, No that's how he talks.
Excellent, I emailed and called him a dope. - mayorofangrytown

There was a great scene in Bull Durham, when Crash Davis picked up Nuke Laloosh's shower sandals and was disgusted by them:
"Your shower shoes have fungus on them. You'll never make it to the bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you'll be classy. If you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow back and the press'll think you're colorful. Until you win 20 in the show, however, it means you are a slob."
If Bryz were making timely saves (yes, I get it the defense is imperfect....it's OK for him to bail out his team once in a while, no?) and winning hockey games, then a lot of the hullabaloo about his "personality" would be seen in a different light.
When your performance lacks, however, things that Bryz says and does gets blown up in a negative way. |

I'm not saying he's not a victim at all, he is to a degree. 95% of the Philly sports media are dolts just looking for a juicy quote.
Just don't quite agree with your final statement. I think it's just his outspoken nature getting the best of him/part of his undoing. |

No body is saying he shouldnt speak his mind at all... but that if he wants to help himself out at all, he might wanna pick and choose what he talks about.

Sure. And I can speak my mind to my boss or to the media about my workplace. But then I have to deal with the repercussions of those words. He's an adult and this is part of his job. |
