listen.. i read up on this just last week
be it his parents or Orr.. someone decided the best move was to sign with boston. my point was and still is that the leafs never had a territorial right to the player - Dozzer
I am sure it came down to who compensated the parents the best at the time or promised the most. |

No, he really likes the player, I would do a Gardiner for O'Reilly straight up trade without hesitation and I'm one of the biggest Gardiner supporters around here. |

Keep Kadri at centre, I give it a season before that faceoff percentage goes up. Remember, this really only his first full season at centre, and first full season playing centre at the NHL level. |

Was not Ballard in charge during the 'days of 'Orr'.... never would have done anything forward thinking to get him.
But the story of Orr is fascinating. Kinda like how Scalbania (Spelling very wrong.... sorry) got Gretzky from Indianapolis. |

If I've learned anything from this site, it's that Omark and a second get you 90% of players in the league.
If you want an elite talent, though, you have to throw in MPS or Gagner. |

I was not aware, I've been going on about the Statsny thing since the beginning of the year though. - MapleLeafsFTW
I read it somewhere in an article not sure which one but it said the avs are most likely trading him this summer since O'Rielly cannot be traded till a certain date or something like that. Same here always wanted to see Stastny come here and at a cheaper price than what everyone is thinking or saying. Joe Thorton will be costly but i think Stastny will be inexpensive. How sick of a deal would it be if we traded for Stastny and Erik Johnson, i dont know if avs would part for Johnson but could be an interesting deal |

why not?
if i could make the same amount of money with less scrutiny i would - Dozzer
The hope would be that it would be more than about the money, that somehow the Blue maple leaf means more than just where you get your cheque. If we could get a few homegrown guys who are that passionate it would go a long way. |

bobby orr liked the core at 12?
there is so much stuff made up in people heads its all fact now
At this time in the NHL and right through the late 60's amateur players were signed by NHL teams to C forms and then placed on their appropriate junior clubs or minor pro clubs depending on their age. The most extreme case of this was Bobby Orr. Orr signed a C form three weeks before his 12th birthday with the Boston Bruins. He was so young his parents signature was required. When he turned 14 he began playing for Boston's junior sponsored team, the Oshawa Generals. That's how Orr became a Bruin." - senstroll
There was more to the Orr story than that......in fact there was another team in there, Chicago. The Bruins scout was really persistent, literally camped at the Orr household till his parent agreed, even though his coach at the time was a Hawks scout. |

Ditto.
That pretty much solves the center problem. You move Grabo to clear up salary, then just hang on to Liles.
I'll go to my death bed swearing Liles was a decent player for us. He was very good before he had his lights turned out. |

I never considered Johnson, he shoots right and might work well with Phaneuf, I wouldn't move him if I was the Avs even though he is an underachiever but who knows, they'll probably be drafting Jones so who knows what will happen. |

I don't think there will be any major change maybe Liles is traded maybe McArthur isn't resigned and Bozak may just want more money elsewhere. Clearly the defensive core is good with Franson, Gartner, Fraser and Phaneuf being the core.
There is no doubt that Reimer is a good number 1 goalie who could become great in a year or two so why mess around with his development.
The Core up Front are Kessel, Lupul, JVR, Kadri and Jay McClement these guys represent in my opinion the core of this team that I think will not be moved.
Grabovski currently is the highest paid Leaf without warrant and it'll be difficult to trade him or buying him out look for him to stay at least another season.
Kulemin is a big smart hockey player that may fetch a good price while I don't want to see him go but he is a commodity that can be dealt.
Frattin, Komorov, Colbourne are all in that same ilk maybe they stay to form the third or fourth line.
This summer though will have a lot of teams doing their compliant buyouts and other teams with large contracts looking to get under the cap.
I hope they do their due diligence not to get the wrong pieces clearly a good veteran forward like a Marleau and a really good veteran defenseman so that they have veteran leadership in the dressing room and on the ice to calm the young guys.
The Leafs did well for a team that was never picked to be in the top 10 in their conference let alone make the play-offs. |

If they draft Jones, i can see them moving Johnson if we offer them a good deal, plus having Stastny in the deal is sort of a salary dump as well on their part, so could make a good deal out of it. Johnson has underachieved and underperformed with the avs, could very well need a change up. Could very well be the key piece for complimenting phaneuf |
