Yeah, with the Canucks, there's no "upside" there. That's a window that's closing very quickly if not closed already; the cupboards are bare too. Sad state of affairs in Vancouver.

If we were swept in 4, they'd all just say, "oh well, it was expected, there's always next year...". This is a tough, bitter pill to swallow; nobody's forgetting this, ever. They'll be telling each other, "REMEMBER GAME 7! DON'T SIT BACK BOYS!" for years to come.

Plus, the myth of the unbeatable Bruins has been shattered; I guarantee we'll never look the same against the Bruins like we have since basically the Kessel trade.

Kessel was very good in the series, Seguin and Hamilton looked like poope.

If we would have won it would have forever put to rest the trade, because we could always justify with the series win.

- BetterCallSaul

I'm all for trading draft picks on the condition that the players you get back aren't past their primes.

The Kessel trade didn't back fire as badly as some people thought because we still got a player with room to grow and improve.

Boyes, McCauley, and a first for Nolan was a disaster, but it would have been a steal if Nolan were 4-5 years younger.

If Erik Johnson were remotely available, that first rounder would be gone in a heart beat, and rightfully so.

You are correct. I think everyone, to a 'T' said they would rather have the sweep not because of the embarrassment, but it forces change.
- Beatle_john

I wasnt suggesting embarrassment, just that its would feel better to say. "Sure we were swept but we didnt blow up like the leafs"

If the leafs 2 best players were 34 i would agree. but the leafs best players is 25, 23, 28 etc

Who cares about justifying the trade? That's for media and fans to debate endlessly; I'm just glad Kessel actually got the monkey off his back and scored some key goals (and knocked Chara on his ass ).

For years, the Canucks played all of their players as assets to be traded of moved but never lost for nothing in return. Then when they did that with Erhoff (and Naslund And even Jovo before him) it tipped the balance away from getting a good return and relying on free agency... which has been a crap shoot, mostly poor.

Yes, their window closes last year. No one wanted to admit it but trades for Kassian and Booth really solidified it,.

Does no one else look at the trades between the two teams as Kessel, Colborne, Biggs & Liles for Seguin, Knight, Hamilton & Kaberle?

I think we can justify it by comparing Seguin to Kessel. Seguin's got a loooong way to go yet.

How many of Kessel's points were scored with Chara on the ice at even strength? That match-up has lost all of its intimidation factor.

Eric Johnson is the Dion Phaneuf of Colorado. He is at best an above average defender with a 6 million dollar contract.

Stanstny and Johnson won't happen, it'll end up costing the Toronto Maple Leafs a fortune in draft picks and cap space.

Honest question: would the Canucks give up an asset like Bieksa to move a bad contract like Booth?

If you give them a good return and use the salary dump as a way to avoid giving up a first, it could be done.

Boston's definitely gotten the best out of us over the years via trades, but yeah, Rask and Raycroft in my mind is lights-out the worst of the exchanges. Kessel is still a very good player; I'm happy we have him. Put it this way, if we had Seguin and Hamilton on our roster instead of Kessel, nobody would be calling us a cup contender.

I asked before if they would give up Kesler or Edler for a reduced price if we took Luongo and used one of our compliance buy-outs on him.

I'm gonna tell you right now, there's no way in hell that the Flyers don't seriously upgrade that porous d-line...

They both have suffered from being #1 defensemen with no #2 that can log the same minutes.

Pair them together (a left and right shot) and it would be the best pairing in Toronto since Kaberle and McCabe were good.

Was that a decade ago already? Wow.
