Don't hate him. Don't think you'll win with him in any role.
- honesthockey

You don't think you could ever win, even with Gardiner as your 6th best defenseman?

Please tell me you don't actually believe that. We almost knocked off the 2011 cup champs with Gardiner as our #3.

Dude by the end of that series Gardiner was essentially no. 1.

Franson was number two.

Percy, Finn, Reilly etc.

Nothing to worry about in the future. Having Dion locked up long term isn't in our best interests.

I think there was broad agreement from across the spectrum just recently that Gardiner looked great and is still a real promising player...every team in the league would take him

And only play in half those games, and the Leafs were much better with him in those games.

Gardiner and Franson out there with a minute left in game 7 scares the piss out of me, too.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Dumping your #1 because you have a handful of guys who have never played an NHL game is insanity.

Meh, I'd be nervous out there with anyone not named Lidstrom.

Nothing we can do about it.

As for next year: Does anyone here think that a guy like Blacker is ready to step into a new role?

Kostka, Holzer etc can probably stay down with the Marlies, as there's big cohort of young dmen coming, so you really need to take advantages of the chances you get

this city is largely (frank)ed to get around in, it's pretty sad...all we have planned is a Cup parade that never happens.

No almost was in 1993 this was round 1 against a team that floundered down the stretch and lost in the first round in 2012.

You win with a Fraser at 6 not a Gardiner.

Wow think about that. Lucic ran wild over this defense as is. That defense he would kill.

I know a few shortcuts, but yeah, It can get pretty nasty.

To all those idiots who want to blow up the Gardiner... imagine the city without it.

no they did not

before the days of the draft it was first come first serve.

what happened is teams like montreal and toronto would finance minor league teams and sign guys.. but there was never such a thing as territorial rights.. ever.

- Dozzer

Habs bought whole leagues, not just teams - to hide players. Smart - only slightly against the rules.... by ignoring or altering the definition of 'amateur'.

Research one Jean BĂ©liveau.

Leafs by comparison, largely due to language isolation that naturally happened in Quebec, and their own stupidity had scouts for each of the other original six constantly in the their back yard.

But to someone's point earlier, the deal that ultimately brought Lafleur to Montreal should never have been allowed. And they gave Backstrom I believe to Los Angeles to ensure that Los Angeles finished ahead of the Golden Seals ....

back in the days when the league offices were coincidentally located where?

The nickname for jake fits too well. We can't blow it up now.

But if a giant sinkhole swallows a part of North York which Leaf gets that moniker?

nobody will be able to get anywhere because all the levels of government will still be trying to decide who gets to build infrastructure for nothing, the Leafs parade will just be gridlock for three hours

but yeah, mlse will charge like 100 bucks to even look at the parade

At least rebuild it. Put transit on top of it too. Use the water for transit where possible. Do something. All the parties and levels basically dig a whole and then fill it back up again. How did we ever build big highways like the 401 and 400 in the first place? We can't do anything now.
