He likes a certain type of player, there's nothing wrong with that. And he's right, we needed a big body to clear Chara/Lucic out of the crease. And we could use a Clarkson. But I found his Carlo Collaicovo comparison to Gardiner amusing. I never saw Carlo do the things this kid can do.
Man I'm having deja vu.....I swear I had these same arguments last year about kadri, but someone else was playing the role of HH. Ah well. - mykokes
I've had similar discussions about Kessel.
I'm not sure why every player has to crash and bang and fight and score 30+.
There are some guys that I'd rather not see doing that. I didn't need to see Mogilny putting people through the boards to tell that he was an elite talent. |

There nothing wrong with liking different types of players but if your going to say one of our best players is overrated when he basically a point per game player your stretching into trolling your own team. |

Boston's definitely gotten the best out of us over the years via trades, but yeah, Rask and Raycroft in my mind is lights-out the worst of the exchanges. Kessel is still a very good player; I'm happy we have him. Put it this way, if we had Seguin and Hamilton on our roster instead of Kessel, nobody would be calling us a cup contender. - gravyface

I think what he means is, we wouldn't have made the playoffs without kessel or even made it 7 games. But good catch nonetheless. Now, wheres the latest Coyote blog! I want to know what you think about Henrik Sedin calling Mike Smith a diver! |

Check out my take on what the team will do in regards to forwards
http://my.hockeybuzz.com/...er_id=84849&post_id=14811 - WendelMania
Kadri isn't ready for 1st line duties. The contract you're proposing for him is also way too generous. The sample of 48 games is still way too small....there's a reason why young guys don't get the big pay day until they hit UFA...Nonis should stick with the norm.
Colborne is not ready for the big league - still a lot of holes in his game. My opinion is you leave him in the Ahl at the beginning of next year and see what happens....potentially you bring him up half way through the year.
Kessel is not worth $7MM. You're valuing him at his 'best case scenario' (a top 10 talent). I don't think you pay him more than $6 per.
Grabo needs to be offloaded, and Bozak needs to be signed...$5.5 for what Grabo brings is not worth it...and having his inflated contract on the books will do nothing but drive the asking price up for our pending UFAs/RFAs.
In terms of free agency, Nonis should look to go after 2 of Clarkson/Horton/Clowe. This team needs to add skilled size and grit, and any of those 3 would fit the bill. The idea is you replace them with the absence of Grabo & MacA.
Those are my thoughts.
Edit: Definitely agree with the assessments on Frats, Mcclment, blue bombers, and Leo...overall good write-up man. |

I think you're off on the Kessel money. 7M is likely what its going to take now....ie. considering what Perry and Getzlaf got, two seasons of being in the top 6 and still near a ppg player in the playoffs. (21 points in 22 gp). And odds are he'll be in the top 10 again next year, especially with Kadri as his centre. I mean ideally Kadri won't be, but don't be surprised. As for Kessel's game, Sundin started to become a more complete player at 26 too. |

Anyone know what the draft order is after the 1st round (playoffs)? Between 14-22
Islanders - 15th
Wild - 16th
Toronto - 17th
St. Louis - 18th
Washington - 19th
Vancouver - 20th
Montreal - 21st
Anaheim - 22nd
Correct or? |

I don't think Perry/Getz are fair comparables. They bring a totally different dynamic to their game that Kessel isn't able to.
I think Kessel needs to be compared to a player with similar style that has the ability to put up similar numbers. Guys like Giroux, Backstrom, etc - small with skill.
At the end of the day, if we go based on numbers alone, Kessel is worth more than Getz & Perry...but I think more than just numbers need to go into the analysis before we label him our franchise guy. As much as I loved his play this playoffs, he's still very one dimensional. He's incredibly weak on the boards, and on the puck.

The thing is Getz and Perry got 8M+ and Semin got 7M. Thats why I don't think 6M is going to cut it. |

Irrespective of what Getz/Perry got, I highly doubt Nonis is going to be tricked into believing that those two are the benchmark Kessel's contract should be negotiated off of.
In terms of Semin...if everyone is jumping off a bridge, does that mean you should too? |

You also have to take into consideration how much he enjoys playing in Toronto. He's comfortable here, and he's best friends with Bozak. You keep Bozak around and you can probably knock off a 1M or more of Phil's Price tag. |

With the cap going down, is 7 million now too much for a player?
How long before others want the same amount?
How many 600,000 journeymen can you have?
Besides, has Kessel said anything at all about his intentions? |
