At least Ottowa has been able to gain a little ground back. I don't know who told me that Karlsson was pretty good defensively, so far I think Karlsson's proven him wrong. Sort of shows that the Norris is really just for the best offensive defenseman. Hopefully they'll prove me wrong this year and pick Suter. - JAKEw1234
Karlsson is playing on one good achillies, he missed a couple months with an injury that generally sidelines guys for a year. |

Any tech savvys out there?
can't really afford an iPad mini so for a ~7" tab, i'm deciding between a kindle fire HD, samsung galaxy and the google nexus. looking for better functionality than my old kindle fire, which sucks to post here with. that thing is a glorified reader and basically useless.
would appreciate any feedback... - isaiah520
An alternative would be the Barnes and Noble Nook HD+. For $200 you can get a decent 9" (as opposed to 7") tablet. The Nook recently had an update which gives it access to the google play store. You can download the Kindle App and have access to all your Amazon ebooks not to mention all 700,000 android apps.
The downsides are that it doesn't have a camera and it will not receive android updates nearly as fast as a Google Nexus. Other than those 2 drawbacks you will be getting a very nice 9" android tablet for less than the price of a 7" Nexus.

Neither was Tim Thomas, but the Bruins found a taker.
The thing is, Bryz has 7 years left. No team is taking on 7 years. And even if they do, the Flyers are still on the hook for cap recapture if he retires early.
Even if they can trade him there's no way they should. - Jsaquella
Like you stated Thomas doesn't have 7 years left on his deal. |

A better way to say what I meant was, performance isn't the primary thing a team like that is looking for. |

I understand. Not sure a team wants that contract for seven more years. I can see a team taking on Bryz if it was a year or two to reach the cap floor but most teams wont even have an issue with it going down next year. |

my concern is that the mkt for goalies won't be as good for the next off season. then we are in a situation somewhat similar to the one that led to us forcing it w/ bryz should they choose to exercise the CBO. other than that, another yr of bryz would be ok. - isaiah520

Now that I had absolutely nothing better to do or rather decided to spend a night just relaxing, I read the latest Brygalov interview or at least the translation.
I believe he wants out of Philly. Seriously if lavy is going to be the coach then it's probably for the best. Speaking strictly in hockey terms, he's not of the skill set to handle the onslaught of odd man rushes and golden opportunities this system is prone to affording the opposition. This is not to say I'm "on board" with a buyout either, just my unbiased objectionable opinion.
I'm not going to get all up in arms about the comments as it seems the translation was poor and at least one poster who claimed to be a native Russian said so the other day. However I will say that bryz taking shots at people on welfare kinda irked me. For one he's paid handsomely to play a (frank)ing kids game and the people who pay the ridiculous amount of money to go those games are in all likelihood not on welfare.
The Stalin thing was probably taken out of context but he does have his own opinion and in America you are entitled to that. I know my own family suffered under Mussolini in Italy during WWII and Stalin made him look like a teddy bear . I can't see how wholesale slaughter of ones own people makes you a great humanitarian, effective at bringing an unruly populace to heel? I suppose. But that's not the kind of leader I want nor could I see how such a leader would be conducive to long term success of one's nation. That's just my two sense.
For all we know bryzgalov could just be putting all the nails in his amnesty coffin so holmer and snider can walk away from this looking as innocent as possible . I'm not going to form too harsh of an opinion right now because it seems like something is missing from that interview. If he is bought out it might be half a season before the goalie controversy happens in Philadelphia. |

I think he's banking on some goalies being available through amnesty a la loungo. Otherwise if what I heard is true and backstrom is undergoing surgery I don't want any parts of him and I'm leery of emery's health too. |

To the Stalin thing, we pride ourselves on the founding fathers and whatnot, when majority of the land acquired they wiped out Native Americans to obtain and were slave owners to boot.

Almost any country in the world was formed by taking land from another people. But what Stalin did was slaughter his own people. If you can't see the difference I don't know what to tell you. And I'm not justifying the way the world was up to the 1900's either. |

The Stalin thing is cultural. Bryzgalov grew up in the Soviet Union, where Stalin was portrayed as a hero, who singlehandedly won WWII. The horrible things he did are painted over as necessary to save the nation.
Sort of like how America idolizes Thomas Jefferson & George Washington, who were slave holders. Or Andrew Jackson, hose face is on the $20 bill despite having massacred American Indians during his time in the militia. Or Woodrow Wilson, who is praised for his efforts at creating a world wide negotiation body to prevent wars while his deep racism is overlooked.
I'm still not sure how bad the translation was. It was done by a Russian journalist who has done several other translation jobs and I've never heard anyone say that those were badly done.
All that said, I don't really care about the comments. I do think that they send a clear signal that he'd happily take a CBO, but my concern is more on ice than anything else.

Let's be honest here. Who wouldn't want to make 40 million for doing nothing? He has hinted before that it's just a job to him. So if it were me. Yeah I'd want out and would want to be bought out. Because its 40 million for nothing

Stalin slaughtered those who stood in his way, just like white Americans did for most of the country's existence. |
