I'm not saying that there's anybody without flaws. I'm simply saying that one culture's hero is another culture's demon.
To say that people like Bryzgalov grew up with an opportunity to see how things really were make me wonder if you understand how restrictive the USSR was. It was hardly a free society, where information could be exchanged and one could learn an alternative history.
Your own reaction to my criticisms of the founding fathers and Columbus is shows how one can be conditioned. You pardon it by saying nobody is perfect, then talk about them growing up in a more "wild world".
The Russian revolution of 1917 came in the midst of the first world war, a time of massive slaughter and human misery. It was hardly a tame world. Even as the twentieth century progressed, the world stayed full of strife-the Japanese rape of Nanking, the Holocaust, Stalin and Hitler's blood purges, the Ku Klux Klan's emergence as a viable power in the United States in the 1920's and their reign of terror over African-Americans from then up into the 1960 and 70's.
Even bringing up self defense as an excuse for the sins of American Imperialism is weak. White settlers from Europe came and took the land that native tribes had lives on for generations, often time by force. As the settlers expanded their land grab, they consistently made and then broke treaties with the various tribes and herded them into reservations.
If a tribe or an alliance of tribes tried to resist, the white settlers generally annihilated them. If gold, or oil or anything that could be turned into profit was found on a reservation, the Indians were shoved off the land yet again.
But, Bryzgalov is wrong to hold a positive view of Stalin and your dismissal of the sins of the founders of this country is OK, because they had good intentions?

Native Americans where killing each other and taking each other's land long before the all evil white man came. Hardly excuses it but it doesn't equate Washington and Jefferson to Stalin. As my deleted comment said, look what world the founding fathers made, look what Stalin made.
I wasn't using self defense as an excuse I asked that because you said there are no gray areas to killing.
Bryzgalov made a stupid comment. I'm sure while we're at it I could go find some whack job who grew up in a racist household that thinks hitler was great guy too.
