No question Detroit will come hard in this game for sure. It'll be interesting to see how the Hawks respond. If the Hawks win this one the series is over. I can't see Detroit beating the Hawks 4 out of 5 to advance.
As far as Stalberg his playoff stats over three seasons speak for themselves. Every coach has to make decisions for his team once the playoffs begin and things get ramped up. I think Q was looking for some adversity to keep his team sharp. And it certainly sends a message.
During the interviews after practice yesterday Bolland when asked called Q a big Teddy Bear... Q got a real charge out of it when a reporter relayed that to him at the podium.

JJ...no intention to "bash" any goalie really. Just sarcastically pointing out that goal tenders that have been praised and lauded also fail on occasion...and those failures can turn out to be costly, and Anderson butchered one of Crosby's shots tonight.
I don't believe Crawford is anything more than a solid NHL goalie, currently playing on a Hawks club with an outstanding defense (which includes Oduya Phil ). If Craw is in net for a Cup winner he'll enter a different realm. Until then...well we all wait and watch.
Question for ya JJ...are you suggesting that Ottawa has a poor defense overall, or just tonight's game? Because if I'm not mistaken the Sens finished ONE goal behind the Hawks for the Jennings, and it was a lack of scoring that slowed them down. - ArlingtonRob
The Jennings Trophy is given for least goals against. So not sure what your question is here. A lack of scoring (for your team) would have no impact on it. But the Jennings proves my point. The Hawks' defense, blueline and overall, is better than Ottawa's. The hawks' defense is the best in the league. Therefore apples to apples, Ottawa's goaltending, primarily Anderson, was that much better.

So if Nabokov (pretty avg goalie) is in net for the hawks he owns a 1.27 GA and and 950 save %?
Nice strawman...no one is saying CC is a wunderkind....but if he allows Crosbys 2nd goal; you might be just arguing crawfords "soft" goal costs hawks. - bogiedoc
Since you're choosing to be a schnozzle. Put the pom poms down and look at the facts.
Crawford has given up 3 goals (in OT no less) over the last two playoffs that were softer than that goal. Understand. THREE. Each of which lost games.
The Sens aren't in the second round this year (or last year) without Craig Anderson. Anderson steals games that Crawford really hasn't done much of. Crawford plays—and has played—behind much better defenses.
So Anderson gave up a soft goal. To your point, so do lots of goalies. Anderson has gotten more results, the last two years and probably the last 5 years playing behind much worse teams. You want to redeem Corey for what happened last Spring? Nothing but what HE does will do that. And what he did in the first round this year helped (after a horrifically soft goal at the absolute worst time).
Nice straw man, please. Start with the facts next time. |

All signs point for me that the decsion to bench Stalberg had little to do with his on ice performance...
But Q. can get by in this series with Carcillo playing 4-5 minutes a game....At least for now.
How long Handzus can play with a sore back and adding little to the offensive production on the 2nd line is a bigger question for me??

Too much smoke for there not to be some kind of fire. I agree, Al. And it isn't like these tiffs don't happen real regularly.

I was hoping it would rain today. I have to be at the ball field all day for a kids baseball/softball event. Games from 10-10, and I'm on the board have to be there for it all. |

Rob, there seems to be an undercurrent in your posts, bashing Niemi, now Andersson. Is it that Corey Crawford is an unappreciated wunderkind? Because if it is, understand, this defense is making two average goalies look very good. If Crawford played behind Ottawa's defense? Oy gevalt. He'd fall apart like a Yugo with 150K miles. - John Jaeckel
Come on, that's a load of crap. Everyone knows there isn't a Yugo that could go 150,000 miles |

Have you used the ap before? Is the game live or just highlights? - hockey nut 28
I used the nbc sports live app and it was live game feed. You plug in your TV provider and password and poof its on. I would think nbc has the same.
My only complaint with the apps and game center live is the delay, and when you lose connection

Wow... Just listened to Rosenbloom RIP Stalberg on The Score, calling him an unimportant, marginal player who has speed but brings nothing else to the game. I thought that was untrue and unfair. He may not be the greatest stick handler in the world, but he forechecks at least. It's not as though he does nothing but skate. |

Hm, I wouldn't go that far but I also don't agree that he is that important of a piece of this team.

The Sens have absolutely no chance with Anderson playing as he is....Looked really bad. - Al
Anderson looked bad because the rest of the team looked bad. I don't know what happened between the Habs series and this one but every game so far the Sens have come out flatter than Kansas.
It's also abundantly clear that Karlsson was not ready to return. He had turnovers to rival Oduya's and got undressed several times.
It's clear the Sens can't out-possession the Pens so they have to employ a different strategy else that series is over in 5 or less. |

5th leading goal scorer the last 2 years. Some of the best Corsi numbers (outside of Toews) Who is important in your estimation, besides the crew making over 5 million? |

And Saad had 10 goals on 98 shots this year and Victor had 21 goals on 215 shots last year with the same shooting % as Saad this year! Almost no difference, except Saad plays in all situations...And to answer wiz comment Stals is way better then when he first got here, no doubt about that! Most likely to little to late.. Would love to see him get hot before he leaves for more money! - moots
You know that more shots is better than less shots right? Most people shoot the same percentage, so the more you get the puck to the net, the more you are going to score. If people want to criticize Stalberg for no finish last year, then they should criticize Saad as well, because he's been worse. Also Stalberg only scored one less goal this year playing with Bickell and Shaw. I'm so tired of the myth perpetuated on this board that Stalberg can't score. Also I don't care how old they are, if you're in the NHL you're in the NHL. Saad doesn't play better or worse because he is 20, nor Stalberg at 27, I just judge their game |

I agree with most of this, which is part of why I'm higher on Stalls than some people seem to be. SOGs create activity and make good things happen. I think much of the criticism comes from a combo of his perceived lack of "finish" and also his perceived unfortunate tendency to cough up the puck at really bad times, which is, alas, sort of true. |

My buddy is getting married tomorrow and the wedding ceremony/reception starts at ... 12:00 p.m.-4p.m.
Here's how a conversation went down between my buddy Mike, wife, and me.
Mike, "Dude! I actually have unlimited data on my phone and I have the NBC sports package where I can stream the game live off of my phone"
Me, "Great! We can watch the game during the reception"
Mike's wife, "Sweetheart, are you actually going to do that? Isn't that tacky?"
Mike, "You do realize that the groom probably will be at our table watching it as well, right? We're going to be the most popular table there. Yes. Really. I'm doing this"
- CaptainBlackhawk
I was just in Mexico for a wedding and pulled something similar. It was game 5 vs MIN and I would sneak away to catch pieces of the game, thanks to JJ's hockeystreamz site he uses. I caught a large amount of $h!t from my girlfriend and other females, but a lot of the dudes, including the groom, applauded my resourcefulness
